Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s ‘Shaakuntalam’ To Now Release On April 14

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s upcoming Telugu movie Shaakuntalam, which was supposed to be launched in cinemas on February 17, has been postponed by multiple months. The movie’s makers on Friday showed that the movie will now hit theatres on April 14. Without revealing the precise motive for postponement, the makers unveiled a new poster with a launch date.

In Shaakuntalam, Samantha plays the central character Shakuntala, the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra. The film, produced and directed via Gunasekhar, can be launched in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. This assignment marks Samantha’s collaboration with Gunasekhar.

In 2020, speaking on the film’s release, Samantha said that this could be her dream assignment and position. The trailer of Shaakuntalam was released in January. Speaking at the occasion, an emotional Samantha said her love for cinema hasn’t changed amid all the recent life struggles. She said she gathered all her courage to attend the event. She also spoke about her rare auto-immune disease called Myositis which she has been diagnosed with since last November.

Samantha was last visible on screen in Telugu action-mystery Yashoda. In the film, Samantha plays a surrogate mother who won’t stop at anything to protect her infant. The movie became out to be a hit at the box workplace and grossed around ₹40 crores during its theatrical run. Recently, Samantha joined the sets of the Indian adaptation of Amazon Prime’s upcoPrime’sb series, Citadel. She will be visible sharing screen space with Varun Dhawan inside the display, which is being co-created by Raj and DK.
