SP’s motto of ‘jo zameen khali, woh zameen hamari’ will not work anymore, says Yogi Adityanath

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday remarked that the motto of Samajwadi Party– jo zameen khaali, woh zameen hamari (any vacant land is our land)– would not work anymore, adding that free houses were being built on land freed from the control of mafias and criminals.
The Chief Minister performed the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ and laid the foundation stone of the houses of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in Prayagraj. “The Samajwadi Party’s motto of ‘Jo zameen khali, woh zameen hamari’ will not work anymore. In the previous governments, the wealth of the poor and businessmen was usurped. Poor were deprived of the benefits of the government schemes and they were forced to watch it all as mere spectators. But today, the government has operated its bulldozers on the illegal wealth of ‘professional’ mafias and criminals. Free homes for the poor are being constructed on the land freed from their control,” said Adityanath while addressing the audience.
He went on to add, “Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used to give money to the state government. But it was usurped by a select few people. Food meant for the poor, money for toilets, housing etc were usurped by the previous governments. There was no money for development, there was no interest shown by previous governments in this regard. A person associated with SP used to talk about ‘Samajwadi perfume’, on which our state BJP president said that this is not a perfume but ‘Samajwadi stink’. But yesterday, Rs 257 crores and many kgs of gold, silver were recovered from their walls. This is the money of the poor and under our government, no one has the audacity to usurp the wealth of the poor, businessmen and the backwards.”
Highlighting the successes of his government in public welfare, he said, “Today, 43 lakh poor are being provided with houses. Over two lakh families in rural areas have been given toilets. Community toilets have been made in every Gram Panchayat. Under PM Jan Arogya Scheme, free insurance cover of Rs 5 lakhs is being provided to the poor. Somewhere, highways are being made, somewhere else, airports and waterways are being made. Youth are also being given free coaching, smartphones and tablets.”
He said that the 2019 Kumbh fair under the BJP rule had cleanliness, security and order while the one organised in 2013 under the SP rule was marked by dirt, stampedes and anarchy.
Adityanath said that efforts were ongoing to make Prayagraj the country’s ‘law capital’ by establishing a National Law University named after Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first president of independent India.
The Chief Minister remarked that while BJP governments at the centre, state and its workers were busy serving the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, the other political leaders were in ‘home quarantine’. “They were busy spreading misinformation and fear. They even slammed the vaccines. But under the leadership of Modiji, free tests, treatment, foodgrains and vaccines were provided to people,” he added.
He lauded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of starting vaccination of children aged 15-18 years and providing doses to the healthcare workers, frontline workers and people above 60 with comorbidities and urged the public to stay careful and follow COVID protocols and appropriate behaviour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced three major decisions in the fight against the disease including the start of vaccination for children in 15-18 age group from coming January 3.

Lakhimpur Kheri incident: Cong holds protest outside UP Assembly, demands resignation of MoS Teni

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Congress MLAs on Thursday protested outside the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly demanding the resignation of Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’ whose son Ashish Mishra is an accused in Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which 8 people were killed including four farmers.
“We will demand MoS Home’s resignation in Vidhan Sabha too,” said UP Congress chief and MLA Ajay Kumar Lallu.
The MLAs also held a protest march from the Gandhi statue at GPO to the Vidhan Sabha.

A visibly irked minister was also seen attempting to hit the journalist but was prevented by people around him.
Notably, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case on Tuesday termed the Lakhimpur violence that led to the death of eight people as “a pre-planned conspiracy”.
Local farmers had blamed Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’ and his son Ashish for the violence that claimed the lives of four farmers and a local journalist among others during a farmers’ protest. The minister and his son have denied the charges.
Ashish Mishra and several others have been booked for murder.
The development comes as Opposition leaders clamour for the dismissal of the minister from his post over the violence.

PM Modi slams Opposition

Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India] : Slamming the Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that both Delhi and Lucknow were dominated by dynasts for years and the partnership of family members kept crushing the aspirations of people of Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a gathering in Sultanpur after inaugurating Purvanchal Expressway, PM Modi said: “In Uttar Pradesh, we have seen a long period of governments who showed dreams of industrialization without worrying about connectivity. As a result, many factories located here were shut due to the lack of infrastructure. It was also unfortunate that both Delhi and Lucknow were dominated by the dynasts . For years and years, this partnership of family members kept crushing the aspirations of Uttar Pradesh.” “The people of Uttar Pradesh were treated unfairly by the then government. Discrimination was done in development just to serve the interest of their family. The people of Utter Pradesh removed those governments from the path of development of the state forever and ever. Who can forget the power cuts, the law and order condition and the condition of medical facilities in Uttar Pradesh earlier? For previous chief ministers, development was limited to where they had their homes,” he said.
Prime Minister pointed out that for the all-round development of the country, the balanced development of the country is equally important. Some areas marching ahead in the race of development and some areas lagging decades behind is not right for any country.
“The previous governments did not pay attention to all-round and holistic development of Uttar Pradesh. One region of the state and its people were given away to mafia and poverty. I am happy that today this region is writing a new chapter of development,” he said
Taking a jibe at the Opposition leaders, Prime Minister said, “When double engine government gets such double benefits, I see some people losing their cool. It is very natural for them to speak like this. Those who fail in their time, are not even able to see the success of Yogi ji.”
“But I am pained that the then Uttar Pradesh government did not cooperate. They were also scared of upsetting their vote banks by standing beside me in public. I used to come as an MP, they used to disappear after receiving me at the airport. They were ashamed as they had nothing to show as work,” he added.
Elections for 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh are due early next year.

Attack on Kashmiri students

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Monday condemned the attack on over a dozen Kashmiri students by students from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in Sanguru Punjab and Kharar Mohali after the India-Pakistan match, said a press release from the Association.

New Delhi [India] : In a statement, spokesperson of the Association Nasir Khuehami urged Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to take action against the accused and provide security to Kashmiri students studying and working in Punjab state. He said students were mercilessly thrashed and punched on their faces. They were beaten to pulp by other state students who barged in their rooms, thrashed them, vandalised their rooms and damaged belongings.
The spokesperson said that these incidents have increased the sense of insecurity and anxiety among Kashmiri students as well as among their parents and relatives in Kashmir.
He called upon the state and the Jammu and Kashmir government to take effective measures to prevent such happenings and address the waning sense of security among the Kashmiri students and workers living in India. Ideally, support for a particular team should not be tagged to someone’s politics or ideology. Let sports remain what it is meant to be. Cricket after all is a gentleman’s game, he emphasised.
The association has taken up the matter with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, after which a senior police official from J&K spoke to DGP Punjab. They said they have taken full measures to protect all students from Kashmir and also take steps to see that the relationship between Kashmiri students and others remains cordial, he added.
He said that Association has been continuously requesting students to stay away from crowded gatherings and enjoy the game in silence. The Punjab incident is deplorable and could have been avoided by just keeping emotions in check. Sportsmanship is what Virat Kohli taught us in yesterday’s game.
National General Secretary of the Association Younus Rashid said that Association demands probe and immediate arrest of all those involved in the assault on Kashmiri students and ensure adequate arrangements for the safety, security of the students. The attack on Kashmiri students is a worrying factor for the students, youth who are working in different parts of India and parents. “We demand punishment and arrest for the elements involved in beating and harassing the Kashmiri students,” he said.
He said all Kashmiri students pursuing studies outside in Indian states should please be patient and keep calm and control emotions. They should remain calm and save their careers, instead of getting provoked. Students should avoid debates and not involve themselves in the mess. Their life, career and wellbeing is more important than any game and they should not give anybody a chance to ruin their career just for sake of a game. Students should enjoy the game with the true spirit of a sportsman. They should not write provocative things on social media that add fuel to the fire. “We again request the students to maintain silence and enjoy the ongoing T20 World Cup,” he added.
Younus said that SSP Sangrur Swapan Sharma sadi tension was simmering right during the match and it crossed its limit at the end of the game, and both parties indulged in a scuffle, as was reported to him by the other party.
The latest is that the two parties have apologised to each other after the intervention of the concerned SSP. However, Kashmiri students as of now say, they don’t want to file any police report citing that both the groups have their careers ahead, the SSP said.
“Thrashing students is an unfortunate part and against the spirit of the game. We can understand that fans are emotionally connected to this game but beating Kashmiri students can’t help us to change the results of the game,” Younus added.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India] : While addressing at the Samajik Pratinidhi Sammelan, the UP Chief Minister slammed the Opposition parties and said, “When COVID-19 struck, if there had there been a Congress government, then brother and sister would have fled to Italy. The Chief Minister further added that the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was taking steps to alleviate the status of backward castes.
“The Constitutional right given to the OBC Commission was an important step towards empowering backward sections,” he said.
He further said that various government schemes were being implemented for the welfare of various communities without discrimination.

BCI : UP Bar Council to withdraw call for abstinence from judicial work across state

New Delhi [India] : The Bar Council of India (BCI) has asked the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council to forthwith withdraw the call for abstinence from judicial work by lawyers across the state on Wednesday in protest of the killing of Advocate Bhupendra Pratap Singh inside the premises of the Shahjahanpur civil court on Monday.
In a letter written by Bar Council of India Secretary Srimanto Sen to the State Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh Secretary, the BCI assured that it will mention the same in the Supreme Court and at all other forums needed in order to have a fair, impartial and immediate investigation into the incident to book the guilty and to punish them in accordance with the provisions of Law. The Bar Council of India strongly condemned the killing and expressed its deep anguish at the unfortunate and brutal incident.
“However, even in times of such distress, it is reminded that abstinence, strike or boycott will not solve the problem,” BCI said.
BCI further added that such frequent strikes are further complicating the issues and are weakening the State Bar Councils as strikes are considered illegal by the Supreme Court of India when it concerns advocates, who are considered as officers of the court and as a part of the judicial machinery.
“Our profession is considered as a noble profession and the professional work rendered by us is unique and for the benefit of the common man including aggrieved parties who come to advocates in the hope that advocates will be able to get them justice when all doors are closed for them,” BCI said.
At this juncture, the Bar Council of India, apart from assuring to take up this brutal issue with the top authorities, also will try its level best to have the Advocates Protection Act implemented at the earliest.
“The Courts all over the country especially in Uttar Pradesh, as requested, should have a mechanism to prevent the entry of any person with firearms inside court premises and all possible entry and exit points to the court premises should be manned and guarded properly,” BCI said.
BCI said that it will certainly raise and take up this issue and try to have such a mechanism put in place by respective state governments.
“Even the claim for compensation, for the deceased brother Advocate, shall be supported by BCI, however, dear brothers and sisters of the fraternity, should not abstain from court work, it being against the directions of the Supreme Court and in fact, the same shall further make it difficult to fight for our rights with conviction when we ourselves are violating court orders,” BCI said.
Therefore, the BCI said that the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council is forthwith directed to withdraw the call for abstinence from judicial work by lawyers across the state on October 20.

Why 40 pc tickets for women? : BSP

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday termed Congress’ announcement of 40 per cent reservation for women in forthcoming assembly polls as an election gimmick and asked why the scheme was not announced in other election-bound states.

New Delhi [India] : BSP spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Congress party has a long history of deceit. “They have announced 40 per cent seats for women in Uttar Pradesh with an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections. I want to ask Priyanka Ji, who is a woman herself and also the national general secretary of the party, that Assembly elections are being held in five states. Women do not reside in other states? Haven’t women already lived in other states? Then why such announcements are being made only for Uttar Pradesh?” asked the BSP leader.
Bhadoria further hit out on the Congress party and alleged that the party has always been doing “election drama” (election gimmick).
“I remember when Baba Saheb brought the Hindu Code Bill for the rights of women. It was the Congress party that opposed the bill that was going to empower women,” he said.
Bhadoria further alleged that the reservation bill for women was never passed by Congress during its tenure at the Centre.
“Women’s reservation bill was never passed by the Congress government despite so many years in power. Not only this, Congress always used to play a kind of trick with the Dalits. On one hand, Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the Chief Minister and on the other hand, he is humiliated by Sidhu. It means to say that in the Congress party whether there are women, Dalits and backward, they have never given any rights,” he said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said that if any women want to bring a change in society by contesting an election, she can join the Congress, and women’s strength and sympathy can bring a revolution.
“The Congress party has decided that it will give 40 per cent of the total election tickets to women in upcoming assembly polls in the state. These tickets will be given on the basis of merit and not just on the basis of caste or religion,” Vadra had said.

Lakhimpur Kheri violence: SC slams UP govt, says police ‘dragging its feet’ in case investigation

The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government and said that it was getting an impression that the Uttar Pradesh Police was “dragging its feet” in its investigation into the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri where eight persons, including four farmers, were killed during a farmers’ protest.

New Delhi [India] : “We think you (UP Police) are dragging your feet. Please dispel that impression,” a Bench of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli observed. The observation of the Bench came after noting that the statements of only four witnesses have been recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The apex court adjourned the hearing in the Lakhimpur Kheri case to October 26 and asked the SIT probing the case to record statements of other witnesses also under Section 164 CrPC.
The top court questioned Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, why the statements of other witnesses were not recorded.
Salve then requested the Bench for time to record statements of witnesses and the case was adjourned to October 26.
The Bench pointed out that the Special Investigation Team will have to identify the vulnerable witnesses and provide them protection and record their statements under Section 164 CrPC, as it will have more evidentiary value.
At the outset, Salve informed the apex court that he had submitted a report on the incident in a sealed cover.
The Bench responded that it never said anything about the report in a sealed cover.
Salve said, “A concern was stated that the State was going soft on the accused, now everybody is arrested and they are in jail. As of today, 10 accused are arrested. There are two crimes which were driving into farmers and the other one in which a person was lynched.”
The top court after perusing the report of the UP government questioned why out of 44 witnesses, statements of only four were recorded. The statements of other witnesses were being recorded, but the courts had shut (due to Dussehra break), Salve said.
It asked Salve how many accused are in judicial custody and how many are in police custody. Salve replied that out of the 10 accused (in crime related to driving of vehicle into the farmers), four were in police custody.
The Bench then asked Slave, “What about the other six? You did not seek custody so they were sent to judicial custody. What is the situation in this case?”
Questioning the UP government on why police custody of other accused was not sought, the Bench said, “Until and unless they are interrogated by police, you won’t find out.”
Salve apprised the apex court that the phones of the accused had been seized and the videos have been sent for forensic examination. “If the forensic reports come, there may not be a need for further questioning,” he added.
The apex court was hearing a case where two lawyers had written a letter to the CJI seeking a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident.
The apex court had on October 8 expressed dissatisfaction over the steps taken by the Uttar Pradesh government in the killing of eight persons.
Ten people, including Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’, have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
The top court had said it is “not satisfied” with the action taken by the Uttar Pradesh government in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence and also questioned the State on why accused Ashish Mishra was not arrested so far.
Ashish Mishra had allegedly mowed down farmers with his car.
The top court had said that the Uttar Pradesh government is not proceeding in the manner, in which it should proceed against the accused while adding that the killing of eight people in Lakhimpur Kheri is a “brutal murder” and the law must take its course against all accused.
The top court had asked the Uttar Pradesh government whether in other murder cases the police issue summons instead of arresting the accused.
Not arresting the accused is sending a “wrong message”, the Bench had observed as the police has not arrested Ashish Mishra.
The Bench had further observed that transferring the case to CBI for investigation is also not a solution.
Two advocates — Shiv Kumar Tripathi and CS Panda — had sent the letter petition before CJI seeking punishment for politicians allegedly involved in the ghastly incident. The letter had stated, “Having regard to the seriousness of the killing of the farmers at district Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, it is incumbent upon this Court to intervene in the matter as flashed in the press.”
A single-member Commission of Enquiry with headquarters at Lakhimpur Kheri has been constituted to investigate the death of eight persons in Lakhimpur Kheri. Uttar Pradesh government has appointed retired Allahabad High Court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava as a single-member Commission to inquire about the incident and enquiry to be completed within a period of two months.
Local farmers blame Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra ‘Teni’ and his son for the violence that left eight dead, including four farmers a local journalist and others. They were mowed down by a vehicle that was part of the convoy of Minister in Lakhimpur Kheri in north-central Uttar Pradesh.
Videos are also being circulated on social media where a Mahindra Thar was seen knocking down protesters from behind.
The Minister and his son deny the charges. Ashish Mishra and 20 others have been booked for murder but have not been arrested yet.

4 cr workers on E-Shram portal

More than four crore workers have registered themselves with the government’s newly launched e-shram portal, with maximum registrations coming from states like Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, informed the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

New Delhi [India] : As per an official release, Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav said that by registering, the unorganized workers will be able to get the benefits of government schemes easily.
Workers in diverse occupations such as construction, apparel manufacturing, fishing, gig and platform work, street vending, domestic work, agriculture and allied, transport sector have registered at the portal.
In some of these sectors, an overwhelming proportion of migrant workers are also engaged. All unorganized workers including migrant workers can now take the benefits of various social security and employment-based schemes through registration at the e-Shram portal.
As per live data, 4.09 crore workers have registered on the portal. Of these around 50.02 per cent of beneficiaries are female and 49.98 per cent are male.
As per the latest data, the states of Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh are at the forefront of this initiative with the highest number of registrations, as depicted by the graph below. However, putting this number into perspective must be with caution. Smaller states and union territories (UTs) understandably have a lesser number of registered workforce. Also, this drive needs to gain momentum in states and UTs such as Meghalaya, Manipur, Manipur, Goa and Chandigarh.

The largest number of workers registered is from agriculture and construction, given the sheer volume of these two sectors in employment generation in India. Besides, workers from diverse and different occupations like domestic and household workers, apparel sector workers, automobile and transport sector workers, electronics and hardware workers, capital goods workers, education, healthcare, retail, tourism and hospitality, food industry and many more have registered at this portal.
Around 65.68 per cent of these registered workers are in the age group of 16-40 years and 34.32% are in the age group of 40 years and above. The social compositions of these workers include Other Backward Castes (OBC) and General Castes with almost 43 per cent and 27 per cent respectively from these categories and 23 per cent and 7 per cent being from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

It is encouraging that an equivalent proportion of men and women have been part of this drive. There have been weekly improvements in the registrations by gender, with men and women workers registering at comparable proportions, as indicated by the graph below.
This registration would facilitate delivery and accessibility to crucial welfare programmes and various entitlements meant for the workers in the unorganized sector and employment, stated the release.

300 units of free electricity for all if AAP voted to power in UP

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday announced that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will provide 300 units of free electricity to all if voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 16 : “If Aam Aadmi Party is voted to power, everyone will get 300 units of free electricity. In Delhi, people are getting zero electricity bills under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and we will do the same in UP,” said Sisodia while addressing a press conference. He said that it was time that people in the state get relief from hefty electricity bills and promised cancellation of bills of 48 lakh families in the state.
“Pending bills of 48 lakh families will be cancelled if we come to power. There are 48 lakh families in the state that receive hefty electricity bills and are considered as criminals by the Yogi government. I have heard in the media of people who committed suicide over electricity bills. I ask such people to stay patient and extend their support to AAP,” said Sisodia.
He added, “Your expensive electricity bills are not your fault, rather the fault of the state government, which is earning money through these bills. People should not live like culprits. We will ensure that zero electricity bills are received by people here and pending bills of suffering families are cancelled.”
Highlighting Kejriwal’s success as Delhi chief minister, Sisodia said, “Before 2015, people had to charge their inverters and generators to the fullest and markets were flooded with them. But due to the efforts of Kejriwal, it is not the case anymore as people get 24/7, uninterrupted electricity in Delhi. Kejriwal relieved people of lengthy power cuts. We will do this in UP too. UP must get an uninterrupted power supply because it is manufactured at a lot of places here.”
Sisodia added that there was a scope for expansion in the manufacturing capabilities of the state.
“People of UP could not get uninterrupted electricity supply in a state where electricity is produced. It is because the government had no intentions to do so,” he said while attacking the state government.
He also announced free electricity for the farmers of the state.
Sisodia said that being a well-educated man, Kejriwal understood the plight of common people and had an understanding of how to make things right.
“Kejriwal believes that uninterrupted electricity is not a luxury in India of 21st century, rather it is a basic facility. It is a basic duty of the government to provide electricity for all,” Sisodia added.
Sanjay Singh, AAP leader and UP state in charge of the party was also present at the press conference.
Elections to the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly are due to be held next year.
