Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 17 (ANI): The trailer of ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ launched on Thursday, unveiling two of Hindi Cinema’s legendary actors – late Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal who have come together to play the coming of age story of the retired protagonist.

The film also stars Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar in pivotal roles.

The three-and-a-half-minutes long trailer showcases the story of B. G. Sharma (Kapoor and Rawal), a 58-year old widower who struggles to cope with his boring retirement.

“This movie will always be very close to my heart !!! I witnessed the excitement when he started the movie and how keen he was to complete it after the treatment,” she wrote on Instagram.

Helmed by Hitesh Bhatia, ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ is the story of a recently retired man, who discovers his passion for cooking. Due to Rishi Kapoor’s untimely death on April 30, 2020, the film was left incomplete. Luckily, Paresh Rawal stepped in to complete the movie.

On Tuesday, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s son Ranbir Kapoor revealed that he contemplated shooting for ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ in prosthetics but it didn’t work out.

In an emotional video, Ranbir shared that Sharmaji Namkeen is very special to him, not just because it’s his papa’s last film but also because Rishi really believed in the story.

“The show must go on — you all have heard it but I have seen my father live that…After his demise, we thought the film wouldn’t get completed. We thought of trying VFX or I could wear prosthetics and complete the role but nothing was working out. It was a tough time for all of us. And that’s when Mr. Paresh Rawal stepped in. It was very generous of him to take up this challenge,” Ranbir said in the video.

‘Sharmaji Namkeen’, which also features Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar, will be out on Amazon Prime Video on March 31.

Taking to her Instagram handle, Riddhima shared two pictures; one shows a text that reads, “Legends are forever” and the second is a still of her late father from the movie.

“It’s been almost two years since dad left us physically; but his charisma is still felt and his legend is still alive and will forever be,” Riddhima captioned the post.

Continuing with the heartfelt post, she wrote, “Today, as I watch the last film of my father, actor par excellence, a devoted son and brother, a doting husband and the most wonderful dad in the universe; I feel immensely proud of being his daughter! Neetu Kapoor uploaded a few images of her sharing a laugh with Rishi Kapoor. The images were from the couple’s appearance on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ a few years ago. “In remembrance,” she captioned the post, adding a red heart emoji to it.

Randhir Kapoor Misses Brothers Rishi, Rajiv On Raj Kapoor’s Memoir Release

Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor got emotional while promoting the recently-released memoir on his late father Raj Kapoor and said he terribly misses his late younger brothers, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, on the special occasion.

The memoir titled ‘Raj Kapoor: The Master At Work’ was released on the evergreen actor’s 97th birth anniversary, December 14. Turning emotional during the event, Randhir told ANI, “This is a very difficult question for me to answer. I come from a very close-knit family, and I was extremely close to my two brothers and after the death of my father, I took the responsibility for RK and my two brothers were my two hands–my left hand and my right hand.”

He added, “I am very sad to say that I have lost both of them. I have lost both my hands and this loss will never be fulfilled…” adding tearfully “let it be, it’s alright.”

Speaking about the legacy, Randhir said, it will be always be continued by his nephew Ranbir Kapoor, daughters Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor, and the upcoming generations.

The 74-year-old also recalled the mishaps that happened during the past few years including the saddest one about — RK studio that was destroyed in a massive fire in September 2017.

“I do not have a single memorial of my father right now, all his certificates, awards; everything was burnt in that massive fire. We designed everything in a very special manner to showcase his belongings, but nothing could be saved,” Randhir told ANI.

He added, “I just have a crockery set that he brought for 1956 film ‘Jagte Raho’ with me because that happened to be in my office, and my office was saved, but what was to be… was to be and that vacuum cannot be filled.”

The Kapoor family later decided to sell the iconic RK Films and Studios, which was built by legendary actor Raj Kapoor nearly 70 years ago, 1948, one year after India gained independence.

The first was the one featuring Rishi in the film’s titular role, while the second one featured Paresh in the same role, which he took up after Rishi’s death.

‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ was supposed to mark Juhi and Rishi’s reunion on the big screen after a long time. The two starred in films like ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Saajan Ka Ghar’, ‘Rishta Ho To Aisa’, ‘Ghar Ki Ijaazat’, and ‘Eena Meena Deeka’ to name a few.

They were last seen together in the 2009 film ‘Luck By Chance’, which marked Farhan’s sister Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut and was produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani.

Rishi had died on April 30, 2020. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and before his demise, he was in New York for treatment with his wife Neetu Kapoor, before returning to India in September 2019.
