Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are trying hard to revive the organization

” We will overcome. That is our determination. That is our Nav-Sankalp. The Congress will have a brand-new Uday. That is our Nav-Sankalp,” she insisted.

The Congress president also announced developing an advisory team from among Congress Working Board (CWC) participants which would certainly meet routinely to go over political issues.

” I have also determined to have an advisory team from the CWC that would certainly meet on a regular basis under my chairpersonship to talk about and deliberate upon political problems and also obstacles prior to elections,” she said.

” We do have the CWC that meets periodically which will continue. The new group is not, nonetheless, a cumulative decision-making body yet but will help to get the advantage of the substantial experience of elderly coworkers. It too will certainly be informed very soon,” added Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi additionally called three-day Chintan Shivir in Udaipur “beneficial as well as productive” as many party leaders had a chance to express their views as well as offer the ideas in a spirit of positive engagement. Sonia Gandhi likewise announced that Congress will certainly introduce connection drive with people as “Kanyakumari to Kashmir Bharat Jodo” yatra beginning on October 2, as a part of the party’s outreach program.

Congress : Now ‘One family, One ticket’ rule, says Rahul Gandhi at Nav Sankalp Shivir

Udaipur (Rajasthan) [India]- Hours after the Congress Working Board (CWC) gave its authorization to the organisational reforms, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday insisted that ‘one family, one ticket’ rule should be applied in the pary from now onwards.
Dealing with the wrapping up session of the ‘Nav Sankalp Shivir’ being held in Udaipur, Rahul Gandhi stated, “We should make certain the suggestion that individual per family should get a ticket (to fight elections). I additionally advise the inclusion of the youth in the Congress party. Likewise, just one participant of a family should be provided a ticket.”

The Udaipur Nav Sankalp Shivir declaration has been taken on by the CWC at its conference commanded by president Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi discussed issues with grassroot level leaders

” It is extremely important that we limit the number of member of the family that are involved in our party, as well as let them function as well as let them join the organization. However we must not have a scenario where 5-7 participants of a family members are in the organization and also getting tckets for elections. ,” stated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

On May 13, Congress had actually placed a motion on the ‘one family members, one ticket’ proposition mooted by a panel established for the Udaipur Chintan Shivir.

The primary condition is that loved ones of Congress leaders that desire to contest elections should have worked for the party for at the very least 5 years.

Gandhi said, “The formula will not be used if the 2nd member from a family members is proactively working for the party for at the very least five years.”

The ‘organisation’ panel has made numerous pointers consisting of the tenures of AICC office-bearers and other issues.  The information on the ‘one household, one ticket’ idea clears the way for leaders who might have been neglected of the race for election tickets.

From Gandhi Family, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, that had stayed behind the curtains before joining national politics, was appointed party general secretary in 2018 and also will certainly be finishing 6 years in her brand-new duty when basic political elections are in 2024.

The three-day Navsankalp Shivir began in Rajasthan’s Udaipur. Six committees have actually been established and 430 leaders discussed strategies to take on emerging challenges.

After poll debacle in five states, Congress G-23 leaders to demand reforms

New Delhi [India]: Congress G-23 leaders, who are members of the Congress Working Committee, are set to raise their demand for reforms in the party during the CWC meeting to be held in the next few days to discuss the poll debacle in the five states, sources said on Friday.

Congress G23 met at senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s residence in the national capital on Friday.
The Congress has said that party chief Sonia Gandhi will call a meeting of the working committee soon to discuss the party’s preparations.

Congress leaders Bhupender Singh Hooda, Manish Tewari, Kapil Sibal and Anand Sharma, Akhilesh Prasad Singh are among those present at the meeting. Sources said some other G-23 members have joined the meeting virtually. The G-23 leaders had written to party chief Sonia Gandhi in August 2020 calling for sweeping reforms in the party including direct election at various levels.

Congress had said on Thursday that the results of five states have come against the expectations of the party.

The party had also indicated that the clashing ambitions of its leaders had hurt the party’s prospects.

Party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said there was a need to “seriously introspect, re-examine, re-think” whether the race for political positions “is undermining the position of the party to an extent where we end up helping the cause of our opposition and where we end up causing loss to the Congress party”.

He said this question needs to be answered “not only in Punjab, not only in Uttarakhand, not only in Goa, but across the country”.

Surjewala also talked of anti-incumbency in Punjab, which was ruled by Congress.

“In Punjab, Congress presented a new leadership through Charanjit Singh Channi who is the son of the soil, but the entire anti-incumbency of 4.5 years under Captain Amarinder Singh could not be overcome and hence people voted for AAP for change,” he said.

Party leader Shashi Tharoor had on Thursday called for reforming the party’s “organisational leadership in a manner that will reignite those ideas and inspire the people”. “One thing is clear — Change is unavoidable if we need to succeed,” he said in a tweet. (ANI)

Loss in five states, AAP’s rise in Punjab exacerbate challenges for Congress

By Prashant Sood

New Delhi [India]: The results of five assembly polls came as a shock to the Congress which was hoping to do well to revive its prospects for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and to fend off the emerging challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress to replace it as the fulcrum of anti-BJP politics in the country.
The Congress was on the right side of “anti-incumbency” in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur as it was the major opponent of the ruling BJP in these states. And in the electorally-crucial Uttar Pradesh, the party was hoping to turn the tide in the election effort led by party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Congress leaders also strongly spoke against the farm laws which were eventually repealed by the Centre. The party was reduced to a historic low in Uttar Pradesh, making the task of its revival even more difficult if not impossible.

The rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab is another worrying signal for Congress. The Congress finds it difficult to revive itself in a contest that has strong local players and the BJP, Delhi being the latest example. Now with AAP sweeping Punjab and top leaders of Congress including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu losing their seats, the task of revival in Punjab will also be a big challenge.

With their success in Punjab, AAP leaders are talking about the party being a “national force” and it emerging as a “national and natural replacement” of Congress. They also say that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “will be the principal challenger of the BJP” in the future. AAP leader Raghav Chadha has talked about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “being in bigger role of Prime Minister in 2024 if people give an opportunity”.

The Trinamool Congress leaders want to see West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this role and she has talked about the need of broad opposition unity against the BJP. She has met leaders of Shiv Sena and NCP and has also interacted with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. There appears to be competition as also churning in opposition ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls and both AAP and Trinamool Congress are keen to be seen as the prime challengers of BJP, a role that Congress has been espousing so far.

The BSP’s decimation in the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh also points to the party’s dwindling strength and polity in the state getting increasingly bipolar between the alliances led by BJP and Samajwadi Party.

Congress will hold a meeting of its working committee soon to analyse the election results. Upset over the results, Congress G-23 leaders, who had written to Sonia Gandhi seeking widespread reforms including elections at various levels, are slated to meet in the next 48 hours.

Party leader Shashi Tharoor, a member of G-23, on Thursday called for reforming the party’s “organisational leadership in a manner that will reignite those ideas and inspire the people”. “One thing is clear — Change is unavoidable if we need to succeed,” he said in a tweet.

The Congress has to elect a president at the culmination of organisational elections this year and the poll outcome will cast a shadow on the process. It remains to be seen if suggestions continue to be made by a section of the party for Rahul Gandhi to again take up the role.

Rahul Gandhi, who lost the Lok Sabha election from Amethi in 2019 and won from Wayanad, said on Thursday that the Congress will learn from the poll results “and keep working for the interests of the people of India”.

The Congress has seen some of its young promising leaders and even a few among the old guard leaving the party over the past several months.

While BJP increased its vote share in Uttar Pradesh in this poll, the Congress vote share declined though it was fighting almost all 403 seats after a long gap. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gave 40 per cent tickets to women candidates and held nearly 200 rallies and roadshows in UP. The party also came up with a youth manifesto. The party won just two seats and 2.33 per cent votes compared to seven seats it won in 2017 when it had fought on 114 seats as part of an alliance with the Samajwadi Party. The Congress had got 6.25 per cent vote in the previous assembly election.

Congress had won 28 seats with 11.65 per cent votes in 2012 assembly polls and 22 seats with 8.61 per cent votes in 2007.

The Congress indicated on Thursday that the clashing ambitions of its leaders had hurt the party’s prospects.

Party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said there was need to “seriously introspect, re-examine, re-think” whether the race for political positions “is undermining the position of the party to an extent where we end up helping the cause of our opposition and where we end up causing loss to the Congress party”.

In the results of five elections declared on Thursday, Congress won 18 seats in Punjab, 19 in Uttarakhand, 11 in Goa, and five seats in Manipur.

Congress will face a tough test this year in assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The party has not been able to oust BJP from power for over two decades in Gujarat though it put up a spirited fight in the last polls. In Himachal Pradesh, BJP will seek to buck the pattern of alternate turns at power and replicate its victory in Uttarakhand. Apart from putting its house in order in the two states, Congress will also have to watch for challenges from a resurgent AAP. (ANI)

BJP is govt of rich, there is no hearing of poor: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday slammed the BJP government over rising inflation and unemployment and said that this is the government of the rich and there is no hearing of the poor.

Addressing a public rally in the Jagdishpur constituency of Amethi, the Congress leader urged the voters to choose their candidate wisely or else they may regret it for the next five years.
“You (public) are responsible for your circumstances. You get astrayed and vote with your eyes closed. Your vote is a very big responsibility, choose wisely as you may regret it for the next 5 years. It is time for your development,” said Vadra.

She further said the voters to make up their mind whether they want politics of development or the one that entangles them in a fake web of religion and caste.

Talking about her recent visit to a locality in Lucknow, the Congress General Secretary said she met some children there, who were qualified but unemployed.

“Have you brought up your children so that they do not have any future and that they continue to get a sack of foodgrains and remain dependent on it. This is a conspiracy of these political parties to keep you poor, keep your stomach empty so that your emotions could be exploited by them,” said the Congress leader.

She further slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for saying that he had no idea about the stray cattle menace and now he is aware of the problem and says to solve it.

“PM Modi said he didn’t know about the stray cattle menace, what was he doing for 5 years? He’s aware of the war in Ukraine, he was aware of the US President’s cough during COVID, but he was not cognizant of this farmers’ problem?” she added.

Referring to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Priyanka Gandhi slammed the Opposition parties in the State and said, “When there is harassment, neither Akhilesh Yadav nor Mayawati come out of their homes, leave alone Yogi and Modi. They make the father of an accused stand with them on the stage.”

“Their minister’s son killed farmers. Change these circumstances,” she added.

The Congress leader also promised to give 40 per cent jobs to women in the state and to waive farmers’ loans.

“The electricity bill will be half. 40 percent of jobs will be given to women. Action will be taken against the officers who do not take action against atrocities against women. Farmers’ loans will be waived. There will be women, doctors and nurses, in every block,” said Vadra.

The campaigning for the fifth phase of the Assembly elections in the state will end today evening.

Amethi, which will go to the polls in the fifth phase on February 27, witnessed an election of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the same day of Irani’s rally today increasing the political mercury of Amethi.

In this phase, 60 Uttar Pradesh assembly seats across 11 districts including Amethi, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Barabanki, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Shrawasti and Sultanpur are scheduled to go to polls. (ANI)[instagram-image]

UP: Cong’s 19,000 workers went to jail for people in past 1.5 yrs, says Priyanka Gandhi

Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh) [India] (ANI): Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that around 19,000 party workers went to jail for the people in the last 1.5 years.

“Congress’s 19,000 workers went to jail in the last 1.5 years, for you (public). We will waive off farmers’ loans as in Chhattisgarh, half the electricity bills, and will empower women if voted to power,” said the Congress leader while addressing an election rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli.
“We gave tickets to 40 per cent of women for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. It doesn’t matter if they win or lose, at least they’re fighting,” she added.

Speaking about the Hathras rape case, the Congress general secretary asserted that the whole police force tried to stop the party leaders from meeting the family of the Dalit woman who was raped in Hathras.

“Where were they (BJP) when she was getting raped? The family told us that they didn’t get any help, and were instead getting patrolled,” Priyanka Gandhi stated.

The 19-year-old had succumbed to her injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on September 29, 2020, after being assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on September 14.

The seven-phased Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh commenced on February 10. The first two phases of the elections are complete and the polling in 59 constituencies for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections took place today.

Polling for subsequent phases will take place on February 23, 27, and March 3 and 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10. (ANI)(Image -instagram)

Priyanka Gandhi slams PM Modi over ‘migrant labourers’ comment

Panaji (Goa) [India](ANI): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusations that Congress gave free train tickets to migrants to leave Maharashtra which lead to the spread of COVID in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and asked if PM Modi wanted the poor to be left helpless when they were returning to their homes on foot.

Speaking to media persons on Panaji, the Congress leader said, “People whom he had deserted, who had no way of returning to their homes, who were coming back on foot – did he want that nobody should help them? What did Modi ji want? What does he want?
“What about the big rallies he did?” she remarked while alleging that PM Modi conducted rallies during COVID.

Earlier on Monday, while replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister had said that Congress gave free train tickets to migrant workers to leave Mumbai which lead to the spread of COVID in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

“Congress crossed all limits during the first wave of COVID. During the first wave, when the country was in lockdown and when the WHO was advising everyone to stay wherever they are, Congress went to the Mumbai railway station to scare innocent people. They pushed labourers to go back to their states. As a result, COVID spread rapidly in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,” said PM Modi, calling it “paap” (sin).

“You pushed labourers into crisis. In Delhi, the government went around slums in jeeps and announced on mics that whoever wants to go home, buses have been arranged. Infections then shot up in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, where the coronavirus had not even spread that much. What kind of politics is this? How long will these politics continue? The entire country is shocked by the behaviour of the Congress,” he added.

“Now the Congress has made up its mind not to come to power for the next 100 years.”

In a veiled attack on Congress, the Prime Minister said the party was banking on its “divide and rule” policy and had become the leader of “tukde tukde gang”.

“Congress policy is ‘divide and rule’. Congress has become the leader of the ‘tukde tukde’ gang. Congress won several elections due to their ‘Garibi Hatao’ slogan but failed to do that. Then the poor of this country voted them out. The opposition has raised the issue of inflation here, it would have been better if they have raised that matter while their government was in power. In the pandemic also our government tried to tackle inflation.” (ANI)

Priyanka Gandhi’s spirited efforts fail to revive Congress in Uttar Pradesh

By P Sweta

Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has put in spirited efforts while leading the party’s campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. For many weeks now, Gandhi has been travelling across the state while trying to rebuild the party structure that has been in a state of decline for the past two decades. It is perhaps an achievement in itself that the Congress is putting up candidates in all 403 seats.

Priyanka Gandhi speaking with women groups in UP

Perhaps for the first time in her political career, Priyanka Gandhi has taken full ownership for any state election, and the party’s campaign strategy shows her definite mark, with focus on women voters. The party’s ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign did make a splash in the media and the Nari Shakti Samvad was also a novel means to target women voters. By sticking to her promise of giving 40% tickets to women candidates, Priyanka Gandhi has shown her commitment towards women’s empowerment and it was believed that this would help the Congress win back part of the crucial women voters.

The party  has also brought out separate manifestos for the women and the youth in an effort to win them over. Promises to women include 40% job reservation, while overall the  party  has promised to create 20 lakh jobs for the youth. Congress has also promised Rs 5 lakh collateral-free loan to youth aspiring to become entrepreneurs.

However, with days to go for the first round of vote, it is clear that the Congress campaign has lost steam. Observers feel it would be an achievement if the party is able to cross its tally of 7 in the outgoing Assembly.

Priyanka Gandhi in UP

Why has it come to such a pass? First, the minority voters have completely deserted the  Congress, as they feel that it is the Samajwadi Party that can challenge the BJP, and any vote to the Congress will only end up hurting SP’s ability to defeat the ruling party. That many Congress leaders have crossed over to other parties despite getting tickets for the Assembly polls, shows the desperation among its minority leaders. Congress MLA from Saharanpur Masood Akhtar joined the SP and so did Imran Masood. Similarly, Haider Ali Khan, scion of the Nawab of Rampur ditched the Congress despite getting the party ticket. He is now the candidate of BJP ally Apna Dal and will fight against SP’s Abdullah Azam, who is the son of Azam Khan, SP’s most powerful Muslim leader.

Leaders of other communities too have been leaving the Congress in droves. RPN Singh’s move to the BJP was most talked about, but many other leaders, including 3 sitting MLAs Rakesh Singh, Aditi Singh and Naresh Saini, have joined the ruling party. The party’s candidate from Bareilly Cantt Supriya Aron crossed over to the SP after getting the party’s ticket. In an added embarrassment, the face of Priyanka’s ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ campaign, Priyanka Maurya too joined the BJP.

Priyanka Gandhi is trying hard

In fact, Congress has been left with no prominent UP face to give strength to the campaign. Leaders like Sachin Pilot from Rajasthan and Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel have been called in to help with campaigning but in absence of local faces and ban on large rallies, these leaders are unable to have any impact.

In the absence of prominent local faces, voters see the party as weak and without an ability to win elections. So, even as the Congress decision to give tickets to grassroots level women activists like the mother of Hathras rape victim, Asha worker Poonam Pandey and social activist Sadaf Jafar, is being talked about in the media, at the ground level, it has become a struggle for such candidates to win the confidence of voters.

So, it is clear that Priyanka Gandhi’s efforts will not bear fruits for the party in the upcoming Assembly polls due to lack of political organisation and lack of voter confidence. But if the party continues to focus on youth and women voters, and if it is able to attract talented young leaders, over the next few years, her efforts can produce good results for the Congress in subsequent elections.

In presence of her brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi also hit out at the BJP government and said that they have been “spreading a web of lies” ever since they formed the government both at the Centre and the state.
Amethi had been a Congress bastion and Rahul Gandhi had represented Amethi for 15 years in Lok Sabha before he was defeated from the constituency in the year 2019. He won from Wayanad in Kerala from where he had simultaneously contested from.
The visit of the Congress leaders to Amethi comes ahead of Assembly polls in the state slated to be held early next year.

As per the party, the Congress leader will participate in “BJP Bhagao, Mehangai Hatao” ‘padyatra’ in Amethi tomorrow as a part of the Congress party’s ongoing nationwide campaign ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’. The Congress party had launched a countrywide agitation program, ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ on November 14 to expose the mismanagement of the economy by the Centre.
Following Rahul Gandhi’s visit, his sister and party national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be in Amethi on December 19, Sunday.
The Wayanad MP is scheduled to participate in the ‘padyatra’ from Jagdishpur to Harimau with local Congress leaders in Amethi tomorrow.

The visit of the Congress leaders comes ahead of the Assembly polls slated to be held early next year.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP won a landslide victory winning 312 Assembly seats. The party secured a 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections for 403-member Assembly. Samajwadi Party (SP) bagged 47 seats, BSP won 19 while Congress could manage to win only seven seats.

Priyanka Gandhi to address Women Town Hall in Raibareli

New Delhi [India]: Taking forward the party’s 100 days’ action plan for the “Adhi Abadi” ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a Women Town Hall in Raibareli on December 19.
The Congress general secretary earlier announced 40 per cent of tickets will be given to women in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Last week, Priyanka Gandhi rolled out ‘women’s manifesto’ with a bunch of promises.
As part of Congress’ outreach programme for women voters in Uttar Pradesh, the party has planned to organise 100 town halls that are special dialogue meetings across the state.
Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi held a Women Town Hall in Chitrakoot.
Congress commenced a big public relations campaign to reach out to four crore women voters in the next 100 days. A brigade of around 8,000 woman volunteers has been assigned for the task with the slogan “Ladki hoon lad sakti hoon”.
As many as 150 professionals are working on this campaign. The brigade will reach about 2 lakh women daily and convey the promises of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to them.
At present, there are about 7 crore women voters in the state. About 4 crore women had voted in the last assembly elections. Interestingly, the women voters turnout was 4 per cent more 63 per cent as compared to 59 per cent of men. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections also, women voters turnout had been 1 per cent more than men.
According to Congress strategists, about 60 per cent of the women voters are in the age group of 18 to 35. The party has a special eye on this 60 per cent youth.
Congress is focusing on 100 seats out of the total 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, a target has been set to contact every woman 10 times in these seats.

“I was told that the attackers had also come to the house of the victims in September this year, last year and in 2019 and they attacked and harassed the family? Why were these attackers not stopped earlier? Why was security not provided that time?”

The Congress leader stated that the Prime Minister sharing dias with Teni would be an insult to over 700 farmers who died during the farmers’ protest.
The statement of Priyanka Gandhi came a day after the Prime Minister announced the repealing of the three farm laws, and also ahead of a meeting of PM Modi with DGPs, IGPs of all the states/UTs and heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and MoS Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, along with the Prime Minister, were scheduled to attend the meeting in Lucknow at the police headquarters.

Reading out her letter written to the Prime Minister, at a press conference here today, she said, “You may be aware that the main accused, Ashish Mishra, of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence is the son of a minister in your cabinet. Since the beginning of the incident, the UP government has attempted to suppress the voice of justice. The Supreme Court had observed the UP government is trying to protect a special accused in the case.”

Stating that the family members of the farmers who were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence are in ‘intolerable pain’ and are demanding justice, the Congress leader said, “I met the family members of slain farmers, who died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. They do not have any hope of getting justice if the MoS Home Affairs, Ajay Mishra, continue to remain on the post.”

Priyanka stated that it is the responsibility of the Prime Minister of the country to deliver justice to the people.

The Congress leader said, “Your cabinet minister Amit Shah and UP CM Yogi Adityanath share dais with the same minister. You are the Prime Minister of this country and it is your responsibility to deliver justice to the people of this country and also to the farmers.”

“On Friday while addressing the nation, you said that in the national and the farmers’ interests, the government has taken an unprecedented decision to repeal the three farm laws. You said that you have clear intentions towards farmers. If these are true, then giving justice to the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri should be your main responsibility,” she added.

“But if continue to share the dais with Ajay Mishra Teni, then there will be a clear message from you that you are standing with the people who are protecting the criminals. If you participate, then it will be an insult to over 700 farmers who died during the anti-farm laws protest,” said Priyanka Gandhi in her letter to PM Modi.

The Congress leader also demanded the immediate removal of Teni from the Union Cabinet.

She said, “If you care for the farmers, then do not share the dais with the MoS Home Affairs and remove him from the post immediately.”

Priyanka Gandhi also urged the PM to take back cases registered against the farmers and also provide financial assistance to the kin of the farmers who died during the farmers’ protests. (ANI)

Why 40 pc tickets for women? : BSP

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday termed Congress’ announcement of 40 per cent reservation for women in forthcoming assembly polls as an election gimmick and asked why the scheme was not announced in other election-bound states.

New Delhi [India] : BSP spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Congress party has a long history of deceit. “They have announced 40 per cent seats for women in Uttar Pradesh with an eye on the upcoming Assembly elections. I want to ask Priyanka Ji, who is a woman herself and also the national general secretary of the party, that Assembly elections are being held in five states. Women do not reside in other states? Haven’t women already lived in other states? Then why such announcements are being made only for Uttar Pradesh?” asked the BSP leader.
Bhadoria further hit out on the Congress party and alleged that the party has always been doing “election drama” (election gimmick).
“I remember when Baba Saheb brought the Hindu Code Bill for the rights of women. It was the Congress party that opposed the bill that was going to empower women,” he said.
Bhadoria further alleged that the reservation bill for women was never passed by Congress during its tenure at the Centre.
“Women’s reservation bill was never passed by the Congress government despite so many years in power. Not only this, Congress always used to play a kind of trick with the Dalits. On one hand, Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the Chief Minister and on the other hand, he is humiliated by Sidhu. It means to say that in the Congress party whether there are women, Dalits and backward, they have never given any rights,” he said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said that if any women want to bring a change in society by contesting an election, she can join the Congress, and women’s strength and sympathy can bring a revolution.
“The Congress party has decided that it will give 40 per cent of the total election tickets to women in upcoming assembly polls in the state. These tickets will be given on the basis of merit and not just on the basis of caste or religion,” Vadra had said.

“Amid such dire times, @INCIndia is understandably trying to emulate and one can only hope that this is genuine and not tokenism. If they are to be taken seriously, they must give 40 per cent seats to women in states other than UP as well,” it added.

Lakhimpur Kheri incident : Cong delegations meet President Kovind, seeks probe by SC judges, removal of MoS Teni

A Congress delegation, led by Rahul Gandhi, met President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday in Rashtrapati Bhavan and submitted a memorandum on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident seeking an independent inquiry into the matter and removal of Minister of State Home Ajay Mishra Teni. President Kovind assured he will discuss matter with Centre today, says Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi [India], October 13 : The delegation which included Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AK Antony, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Ghulam Nabi Azad requested the President “direct an independent judicial investigation by a Commission comprising of two sitting judges of the Supreme Court of India or the High Court,” says the Memorandum. The memorandum submitted by the Congress party expressed an apprehension that no “police official would dare to fairly investigate the son of Union MoS Home Affairs with the father occupying a position of such high influence and who enjoys continued endorsements from both the Central and the State Governments.”
Therefore, Congress requested the president “to immediately dismiss Union MoS Home Affairs, Sh. Ajay Mishra Teni,” mentions the Memorandum submitted to the President.
The memorandum also included the criminal history associated with the MoS Home Affairs Teni and his reportedly viral controversial speech given before the October 3 incident.
“It is pertinent to note here that the Union MoS for Home Affairs, Sh. Ajay Mishra Teni also stands accused of murder. While the District Court had acquitted him, a criminal appeal (no. 1624 of 2004) against his acquittal is pending in Allahabad High Court since 2004. What is even more shocking and unbelievable is that the High Court had reserved judgment in the Criminal Appeal on March 12th, 2018 but hasn’t delivered the verdict till date. 3 years and 7 months have passed since. Justice has been delayed to the point where it has effectively been denied,” says the Memorandum.
“It is important to note that on September 27th, 2021, the day of the Bharat Bandh called by protesting farmers against the three black laws, Shri Ajay Mishra Teni, MoS Home Affairs, in a public function openly threatened the agitating farmers and even boasted about his dubious antecedents,” It added.
Referring to the protest against the three farm laws that has been going in some parts of the country for some time now, Congress accused the central government of refusing to have a meaningful conversation with them and appears to be applying the policy of “tire & retire” the farmers.
“Lakhs of farmers have been protesting the three “black farm laws” at the doorstep of the National Capital of Delhi for close to a year now. They have braved extreme weather – rain, extreme heat and cold, yet their resolve remains undiminished. Close to a thousand farmers have lost their lives but their determination to seek justice in a Gandhian way remains firm. The Modi Government has refused to relent or have a meaningful conversation with them. Their policy appears to be “tire & retire” the Anndatas, a strategy doomed to failure,” said the formal submission by the Congress party.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have earlier visited the family of victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. As many as eight people including four farmers had died in the violence that took place on October 3. Uttar Pradesh police have so far arrested three people including the son of Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra.

Refuting SKM’s allegations, MoS Teni said that his son was not present at the spot, adding that some miscreants merged with protesting farmers and pelted stones on the car, which lead to the ‘unfortunate incident’. Ashish Mishra also refuted SKM’s allegations and reiterated his absence at the spot where the incident took place.

He further alleged that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi were also not allowed to visit Uttar Pradesh.
“Their aircraft was not allowed to land at the Lucknow airport. Other opposition leaders were also not allowed to visit there. Why are they stopping leaders from visiting? We also had a government there for ten years but we never stopped anyone from visiting anywhere,” said Congress leader.
The Congress leader further said that tomorrow there will be a protest outside District Magistrate’s (DM) office across the country.
“Oppressing farmers is unfortunate for democracy. I demand the Prime Minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister take strict action against those responsible,” he added.
As many as eight people died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident on Sunday, said police.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of several farmer unions, alleged that Ashish Mishra Teni, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni arrived with three vehicles around the time that farmers were dispersing from their protest at the helipad and mowed down farmers and towards the end also attacked SKM leader Tajinder Singh Virk directly, by trying to run a vehicle over him.
However, Ashish Mishra refuted SKM’s allegations and said he was not present at the spot where the incident took place.
MoS Teni also said that his son was not present at the spot, adding that some miscreants mingled with protesting farmers and pelted the stones at the car which lead to the ‘unfortunate incident’.

New Delhi [India]: Amidst political jostling in ruling Congress in Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), stressed that he does not aspire to be at a throne and will stand by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

After the tussle in Punjab Congress between Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh escalated in August, the party had appointed Sidhu as the Congress chief apparently against the wishes of then Chief Minister.

Entire Country is supporting farmers in their fight to save agriculture: Priyanka Gandhi

Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that the whole country is supporting famers in their fight to repeal three central farm laws.

“Farmers are the voice and pride of this country. No power can beat the farmers’ voice for their rights. The whole country is supporting the farmers in their fight to save agriculture and their hard work,” she tweeted with hashtag #Muzaffarnagar_Kisan_Mahapanchayat.
Sanyukt Kisan Morcha on Sunday organised Kisan Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar against the three central farm laws.

Farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

They also had several rounds of discussion with the Centre to resolve the issue but the impasse remains. (ANI)

Congress will partner with small parties

Congress’ state unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on Sunday said his party will forge alliances only with small parties and will “not even think about” joining hands with the big ones for the elections.

Laucknow , Uttar Pradesh, sepetmber 5 : Virtually ruling out an alliance with the SP and BSP for the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Congress’ state unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on Sunday said his party will forge alliances only with small parties and will “not even think about” joining hands with the big ones for the elections. He also said the governments of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) that have ruled Uttar Pradesh in the last 32 years, when Congress was not in power, failed to live up to the expectations of the people and the Congress was set for a comeback in the state.

Lallu said that in the eyes of the people of Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is the main challenger to the BJP in the polls next year and expressed confidence that the party would win the elections under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and form the next government.

The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president said the party will fight the polls under the “supervision” of Priyanka Gandhi as she is the general secretary in-charge of the state and a call on the issue of chief ministerial face will be taken by the national leadership.

Asked about the Congress’ stand on alliances for the UP polls and if there was still a possibility of a tie-up with the SP and BSP, Lallu said, “The Congress’ stand on alliances is clear, we will forge alliances only with small parties. We will not even think about aligning again with big parties.”

Pointing to the reaction of SP and BSP to a Congress booklet that talked about misrule under the non-Congress governments in the last 32 years, he said it is clear that “we will align with small parties” on the issues of the poor, farmers, youth and women’s security.

“We are moving forward as a strong opposition force and under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi we will win the polls, and form the government in 2022,” Lallu said, adding that he was in touch with small parties on alliances but could not talk about the details now.

Both the SP and BSP have also ruled out tying up with the Congress, with SP’s Akhilesh Yadav saying the party will forge alliances only with small parties and Mayawati asserting that BSP would go solo in the polls.

Lallu claimed that SP as the main challenger to the BJP for the 2022 polls was a media creation and it was the Congress that was standing resolutely on the ground to take on the BJP.

Citing the examples of the Congress’ ‘BJP Gaddi Chhorho’ campaign and party leaders spending three days in gram panchayats and wards to hold a direct dialogue with about 90 lakh people last month, Lallu said only one party is focussed on training its cadre and constantly struggling on the ground and that is the Congress.

“I say with full confidence that when you look at the strength, organisation and struggle, it is clear that Congress is the voice of farmers, youth, labourers, for women’s security and of the village poor,” he asserted.

Claiming that there is anger against the BJP over issues such as price rise, unemployment, farmers’ “plight”, poverty, reservation, “murder of democracy”, Lallu said he believes that this anger will manifest itself in the polls and common people were standing with the Congress.

There is a strong undercurrent in favour of the Congress which will be visible in the elections, he said.

Asked about the demand of caste census by many Opposition parties and the Congress’ stance on it, Lallu said his party’s stand is clear and it is in favour of a caste-based census.

Previously also, under the UPA rule, the Congress had got it done and when the BJP came to power, they stopped the publishing of the caste data, he alleged. The BJP does not want a caste census but the Congress believes it should be done, he said.

Lallu also asserted that the BJP’s alleged crackdown on farmers as was seen in Haryana recently and the “three black farm laws” will also be a major issue in the upcoming polls and people will stand by the farmers.

“Under Priyanka Gandhi’s leadership there have been various rallies in different parts of the state where these issues were raised. When Rakesh Tikait was attacked, she sent me and we have been strongly standing in support of the farmers,” Lallu said.

“The three black laws were first opposed by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress has raised the issue both inside and outside Parliament,” he said.

Lallu alleged that the recent incidents of mob violence and hate had been orchestrated by the BJP as it was “desperate and disappointed”.
The BJP has lost the confidence of the people and they want to divert people from real issues by raising the Hindu-Muslim bogey, he alleged.

“But the people of UP know that this election will be about issues such as farmers’ plight, health system, women’s safety and corruption,” Lallu said.

The Congress won just seven seats while its alliance partner SP bagged 47 seats in the 403-member assembly in the 2017 assembly polls. The BJP won a thumping mandate with 312 seats and the BSP bagged 19 seats.

Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar slammed the Opposition alleging that they want to be in the media’s limelight.

“If the Opposition is really concerned about farmers, then govt is ready to discuss the issues in both Houses. Why is the opposition not ready to talk? This shows they just want to be in the media’s limelight,” Tomar told.

The opposition parties have been forcing adjournments in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over their twin demands including repeal of three farm laws and probe into the allegations of surveillance.
The two Houses have been witnessing protests from the Opposition since the start of the monsoon session on July 19.

Farmers have been protesting on different borders on the National Capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farms Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
