China in Trouble : Is the PLA ground force facing comparative neglect?

Hong Kong: The ground force of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) contains approximately 975,000 active-duty soldiers, but in some regards, its modernization is being left behind by China’s heavy investment in the navy, air force and missile force. The ground force makes up slightly less than half the PLA’s two million members. A report known as Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China 2021, published by the Pentagon on 3 November, stated that the PLA ground force had “generally achieved mechanization” by 2020.
