Cricket South Africa withdraws charges against Mark Boucher

Johannesburg [South Africa]-  Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced that they have withdrawn charges of misconduct, including charges of racism against Proteas head coach Mark Boucher.

The nation’s cricket governing body further concluded that there is no basis to sustain any of the disciplinary charges, which include racism, against Mark Boucher, head coach of the Men’s cricket team. The Board of CSA has therefore formally and unreservedly withdrawn all of the charges.
“In December 2021, the CSA Board received the report from the independent Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) Ombudsman, Dumisa Ntsebeza SC. That report made adverse “tentative findings” regarding Boucher but because the Ombudsman stated that he was not in a position to make “definite findings” he recommended that further formal processes take place to achieve finality on these issues,” said the board in a statement.

In line with their fiduciary and legal obligations, the CSA Board resolved to institute formal proceedings as per the SJN Report’s recommendations, which would give all parties, including Boucher, a chance to respond to the allegations and fully state their case. CSA was advised by external lawyers that the appropriate formal process to follow in respect of Boucher was a formal disciplinary hearing in front of an independent Chairperson.

The charge sheet against Boucher ultimately included the tentative finding made by the SJN Ombudsman against Boucher, as well as issues arising from CSA’s own internal enquiry following the resignation of the Proteas assistant coach, Enoch Nkwe. Terry Motau SC, a well-respected senior counsel, was appointed as the Chairperson of the disciplinary enquiry. After consultation with Boucher’s legal team and considering the Proteas schedule, Motau SC determined that the disciplinary hearing would commence on May 16, 2022.

The CSA Board has now taken the decision to formally withdraw all of the disciplinary charges against Boucher. This includes the charges arising from the SJN report and the charges arising from the investigation following Nkwe’s resignation. CSA has made this decision taking into account the following considerations:

1. Paul Adams recently announced that he had withdrawn from testifying against Boucher during the disciplinary hearing. In doing so, Adams stated that his concerns articulated during the SJN process were about the overall “culture” in the Proteas team during the early 2000s, rather than being about any particular player.

2. During the SJN process, Boucher formally apologised to Adams. After the SJN process, Adams indicated to CSA’s lawyers that he accepts this apology.

3. Nkwe decided that he too did not wish to testify against Boucher during the disciplinary hearing. In doing so, Nkwe stated publicly that he did not intend to take sides regarding Boucher and that “whatever happens in that process, I hope the outcome will be the one that’s best for the game”.

4. CSA’s lawyers engaged with various other potential witnesses over the last month and concluded that none of the three charges were sustainable.

5. The very recent ruling by Hamilton Maenetje SC and Michael Bishop in the Graeme Smith arbitration fortified the conclusion that the charges against Boucher would be dismissed.

Having taken all of the above into account, as well as the advice of its external lawyers, CSA concluded that there was no basis to sustain any of the charges against Boucher. CSA has therefore withdrawn the charges and will contribute towards his legal costs.

Lawson Naidoo, Chair of the CSA Board, commented: “CSA has at all times been committed to dealing with the SJN issues in a manner that treats them with utmost seriousness but also ensures fairness, due process and finality. The decision to withdraw the charges brings about finality on these issues for CSA and Mark and allows the focus to return to the cricket field – where we trust that Mark and the Proteas will go from strength to strength.” (ANI)

Real Madrid crowned La Liga champions for record 35th time

Madrid [Spain]: Real Madrid took to the field against Espanyol knowing that all they needed was one point to secure their record-extending 35th La Liga title, but the Los Blancos went out guns blazing to take all three points.

Ancelotti’s men put on a stellar display to convincingly defeat the Catalan side courtesy of a first-half brace from Rodrygo and goals from Asensio and Benzema in the second half. The Madridistas sealed their 35th league title with four games left to play in the competition.
The hosts found a way through on the half-hour mark. Rodrygo played a neat one-two with Marcelo on the edge of the box before driving past two defenders and slotting the ball into the net with his right foot.

The Bernabeu was right behind their team, who made it 2-0 before the break. It was Rodrygo on target again in the 43rd minute, putting in a spectacular performance as he finished after Mariano had won the ball near the area.

The third goal arrived in the 56th minute. Camavinga won the ball back in his own half to set up a counter-attack, carrying the ball before releasing Asensio, who beat Diego Lopez with his right foot.

Ancelotti, who became the first coach to win the title in each of the five big leagues, brought on Benzema, Kroos and Isco in the 60th minute.

Benzema also got his goal as the French forward added to his spectacular scoring form in the 81st minute, with Vini Jr providing the assist. (ANI)

“Gharial’ delivers 760 kg of medicines to Sri Lanka amid crisis

Colombo [Sri Lanka]: With the overarching aim of providing critical medical aid to Sri Lanka during the ongoing economic crisis, Indian Naval Ship Gharial, as part of Mission SAGAR IX, arrived at Colombo on Friday and delivered over 760 kilograms of 107 types of critical lifesaving medicines.

The shipment was received by Health Minister of Sri Lanka, Channa Jayasumana, and would be supplied to the University of Peradeniya Hospital.

Taking to Twitter, Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka wrote, “From #India for their brethren in #Srilanka!!! A consignment of drugs and medical supplies was handed over by High Commissioner to Hon’ble Minister #ChannaJayasumana in #Colombo today. INS Gharial was deployed for ensuring expeditious delivery of the consignment to Sri Lanka.”

In line with the Government of India’s vision of SAGAR – Security And Growth for All in the Region – the Indian Navy undertakes several deployments titled ‘Mission SAGAR’ to assist friendly IOR littorals.

Since May 2020, the Indian Navy has successfully concluded eight such missions, deploying ten ships to 18 Friendly Foreign Countries. With a steadfast intent of delivering a high quantum of humanitarian assistance to our neighbours, personnel from ships and shore organisations of the Indian Navy have invested close to a million man-hours to bring succour to our friends, overseas.

Sri Lanka is now facing its worst economic crisis since gaining independence in 1948. The recession is attributed to foreign exchange shortages caused by a clampdown on tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic. It left the country unable to buy enough fuel, with people facing an acute scarcity of food and basic necessities, fuel, and gas.

In February, New Delhi provided a short-term loan of USD 500 million to Colombo for the purchase of petroleum products through the Ministry of Energy and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka.

Three months before that, in November 2021, India gave 100 tonnes of nano nitrogen liquid fertilisers to Sri Lanka as their government stopped the import of chemical fertilisers.

The total fuel delivered to the people of Sri Lanka, over the last 50 days, amounts to nearly 200,000 MT including a consignment of 40,000 MT, by Indian Oil Corporation, outside the line of credit facility, in February 2022. Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge thanked the Government of India for the fuel consignments.

India announced another USD 1 billion as a credit line to Sri Lanka to help shore up the sinking economy of the island nation. New Delhi also provided the stock of 11,000 MT of rice to Colombo. (ANI)

Elon Musk says for Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral

Washington [US]: Days after Tesla Chief Elon Musk take control over Twitter, he said that for the microblogging site to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral.

“For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally,” Musk tweeted.

Twitter on Monday (local time) confirmed the sale of the company to Musk for USD 44 billion.

Under the terms of the deal, shareholders will receive USD 54.20 in cash for each share of Twitter stock they own, matching Musk’s original offer and marking a 38 per cent premium over the stock price the day before Musk revealed his stake in the company, CNN reported.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said that he was proud of the employees who continue to do the work with focus and urgency despite the noise.

“I took this job to change Twitter for the better, course-correct where we need to, and strengthen the service. Proud of our people who continue to do the work with focus and urgency despite the noise,” Agrawal tweeted.

Meanwhile, the former CEO of the microblogging site Jack Dorsey dropped a series of tweets, suggesting that he supports the move.

“In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company, however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness,” Dorsey tweeted.

For those unaware, Dorsey, the maverick co-founder of Twitter, on November 29, 2021, suddenly announced his resignation. Parag Agarwal, an IITian who was CTO at Twitter, was named his replacement. (ANI)

More than me, Congress needs leadership, collective will to fix problems: Prashant Kishor

New Delhi [India]: After declining the offer to join the Congress, poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Tuesday said that the party needs “leadership and collective will” to fix deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms.

Taking to Twitter, Kishor said, “I declined the generous offer of Congress to join the party as part of the Empowered Action Group (EAG) and take responsibility for the elections. In my humble opinion, more than me the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms.”
Kishor has held several meetings in the last 15 days with Congress’s top leadership and gave a proposal to revamp the party ahead of the 2024 general election. Kishor had given a detailed presentation with a road map for the 2024 General elections.

Following the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in October last year, Kishor had said that the people are looking forward to an opposition led by the Grand Old Party (the Congress), but the party first needs to fix its deep-rooted problems and remove its structural weaknesses.

“People looking for a quick, spontaneous revival of GOP-led opposition based on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident are setting themselves up for a big disappointment. Unfortunately, there are no quick-fix solutions to the deep-rooted problems and structural weakness of GOP,” Kishor had said in a tweet.

Earlier today, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi constituted an Empowered Action Group 2024 and invited Kishor to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility but he declined.

“Following a presentation and discussions with Prashant Kishor, Congress President has constituted a Empowered Action Group 2024 and invited him to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibility. He declined. We appreciate his efforts and suggestion given to party,” Surjewala tweeted.

This came after the Congress panel set up by president Sonia Gandhi to work out a revival plan, as suggested by poll strategist Prashant Kishor, submitted a report on its findings on Friday.

Sources told ANI that Kishor, in his presentation to Congress leadership, suggested that Congress should fight alone in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha, and it should form alliances in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra to which Rahul Gandhi has agreed.

Kishor is learnt to have said that Congress should focus on 370 Lok Sabha constituencies for the 2024 general elections.

After the recent poll debacle in five states, Congress was holding negotiations with Kishor. The results of five Assembly polls came as a shock to Congress which was hoping to do well to revive its prospects for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and to fend off the emerging challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress to replace it as the fulcrum of anti-BJP politics in the country.

Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has openly praised Prashant Kishor, saying that he is a “brand”. Senior Congress leader Veerapa Moily has said that those opposing Kishor’s entry to the party are “anti-reformers”. (ANI)

Zelenskyy wants Asian countries to ‘change their attitude’ towards Ukraine

Kiev [Ukraine]: As the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is hoping Asian countries will “change their attitude” towards Ukraine as Europe has done.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Zelensky said that NATO’s decision not to accept Ukraine as a member was a “gross mistake” and that some of the alliance’s European member states had underestimated the country.
Ukraine’s “strength” against Russia’s military operation “managed to change the attitude of the alliance and the European member states” toward the country, he added.

“I want very much want the Asian countries to change their attitude to Ukraine as well,” Zelensky was quoted as saying by The Hill.

Without naming any country, Zelenskyy singled out nations that are closer to Russia due to their past ties to the Soviet Union.

“Therefore, after the fall of the Soviet Union they historically were close to, the Russian Federation was the successor of the Soviet Union and the biggest country as part of former the Soviet Union, that’s why their relations remain strong with Russia,” he said.

These remarks come as the US and other Western allies are attempting to pressure India to join them in condemning its close defence partner Russia.

India has called for a cessation of violence but refrained from joining any US-led sanctions against Russia.

Meanwhile, China has refused to condemn Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and has accused the US of exacerbating the whole situation by supplying arms to Ukraine. (ANI)

IPL: Buttler’s 116 helps RR beat DC by 15 runs to go on top

Mumbai (Maharashtra)[India]: Jos Buttler’s 116-run knock helped and Prasidh Krishna’s three-wicket haul helped Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 15 runs in a high-scoring match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Friday. With this win, the inaugural champions go to the top of the points table with five wins in seven matches.

Chasing a mammoth 223-run target David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave Delhi capitals a flying start but the 43-run partnership was broken by pacer Prasidh Krishna who dismissed the dangerous Warner for 28 off 14 balls, caught behind by wicket-keeper Sanju Samson in the fifth over.
In the next over, Ravichandran Ashwin was introduced into the attack and the experienced off-spinner dismissed Sarfaraz Khan in his very first ball to leave Delhi in a spot of bother at 48/2 in 5.1 overs.

Captain Rishabh Pant joined Shaw at the other end and the duo scored runs at a brisk pace. The 51-run partnership was broken by Ashwin who took his second wicket of the match dismissing Shaw who got out scoring 37 from 27 balls as Delhi lost their third wicket for 99.

Lalit Yadav then joined captain Pant and the duo tried to keep pace with the required net run rate. Prasidh Krishna struck for the second time dismissing dangerous Pant for 44 off 24 balls. In the next over Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned up Axar Patel for 1 as DC lost half of their side for 127 in 13 overs.

Lalit Yadav and Shardul Thakur then struck a partnership to take the team’s total beyond the 150-run mark but the 30-run partnership was broken as Thakur was run-out and Delhi lost its sixth wicket for 157.

Lalit Yadav and Rovman Powell kept Delhi in the game but Prasidh Krishna struck for the third time dismissing the dangerous-looking Yadav for 24-ball 37, caught behind by keeper Samson as Delhi lost its seventh wicket for 187.

With 36 runs needed in the last six balls for Delhi Capitals, Rovman Powell hit six of the first ball of the over to left-arm pacer Obed McCoy. In the second ball, Powell hit a six again. In the third ball, he again hit a full toss ball for a maximum and that full toss according to Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and team management was a no-ball.

But the on-field umpire did not give a no-ball and even refused to consult the third umpire hence Pant threatened to forfeit the match and asked both Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to come out of the field. Assistant coach Praveen Amre entered the field to request umpires to go to the third umpire but the on-field umpires did not budge.

All this also broke Powell’s momentum as he failed to connect the next ball. McCoy dismissed Powell in the last ball of the match for 36 runs off 15 balls as the Royals won the match by 15 runs. With this win, Rajasthan jumped to the number one spot in the points table with five wins in seven matches.

Earlier in the day being put in to bat Rajasthan Royals team got off to a great start as openers Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal played a bit cautiously and ensured that there was no damage done by Delhi Capital bowlers as the inaugural champions scored 44 runs in the first six overs of Powerplay.

In the seventh, over of the innings, the Buttler-Padikkal duo took the team’s total beyond the 50-run mark. After that Buttler pressed the accelerator and started hitting boundaries and sixes to notch up his half-century in just 36 balls.

In the 11th over, the Buttler-Padikkal duo struck a century partnership as Rajasthan Royals looked set for a massive total. Padikkal too went on to score his half-century scoring it in just 31-balls.

Rajasthan reached the 150-run mark in just 14.3 overs. The 155-run opening partnership was finally broken as left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Padikkal leg-before for 54 off 35 balls.

Buttler went on to score his century in 57 balls, his third of the season, becoming only the second batter in the history of IPL to score three centuries in one season after Virat Kohli who scored four tons in the 2016 season.

Captain Sanju Samson walked in to bat – his 100th match for Rajasthan Royals – and he also went on to notch up over 5000 runs in T20s. Buttler-Samson took their team’s total beyond the 200-run mark in 18.4 overs. Mustafizur Rahman finally dismissed Buttler for 116 hitting nine fours and nine sixes as Rajasthan lost their second wicket of the match for 202.

Some lusty hitting by captain Sanju Samson helped his team notch up 222/2 in 20 overs. Samson scored an unbeaten 46 off 19 balls hitting five fours and three sixes.

Brief scores: Rajasthan Royals 222/2 in 20 overs (Jos Buttler 116, Devdutt Padikkal 54; Mustafizur Rahman 1/43, Khaleel Ahmed 1/47) vs Delhi Capitals 207/8 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant 44, Lalit Yadav 37, Prithvi Shaw 37; Prasidh Krishna 3/22, Ravichandran Ashwin 2/32). (ANI)

Liverpool hung on to beat Manchester City 3-2 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to reach the final of the FA Cup and end Pep Guardiola’s hopes of a treble.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will meet the winner of Sunday’s other semi-final between Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the May 14th final as it keep alive its dream of an unprecedented quadruple.

Guardiola opted to rest several of City’s starters, including goalkeeper Ederson, and the weakened side was outplayed by Jurgen Klopp’s team in the first half, going in 3-0 down at the interval.

Although City scored at the start and end of the second half, its weakened line-up never really did enough to win the game against opponent it drew 2-2 with in the Premier League last week. “Absolutely proud, incredible – I think the first half was one of the best we ever played,” said Klopp.

Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool: FA Cup semi-final – as it happened | FA Cup | The Guardian

“We did all the right stuff, we scored in the right moments, we played an incredible game in the first half, I really loved each second of it,” he added.

Ibrahima Konate headed Liverpool ahead from an Andy Robertson corner in the ninth minute before a dreadful error from City’s American back-up goalkeeper Zack Steffen gifted the Reds a second.

Steffen took too long when receiving a back pass from John Stones and Sadio Mane slid in to tackle the keeper and the ball flew into the net.

Man City vs. Liverpool result, highlights & analysis: Mane inspires rampant Reds to FA Cup final | Sporting News

Mane then added another, on the stroke of halftime, in more conventional fashion, driving a volley past Steffen after being set up by Thiago Alcantara.

Guardiola made no changes at the break, even though he had options such as Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez to call on, but his side did spark into life.

Jack Grealish pulled a goal back 70 seconds after the resumption after Gabriel Jesus did well to beat Fabinho and set up the England midfielder who drilled home.

Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker was alert to get out quickly and foil Gabriel Jesus as the Brazilian burst goalwards but while City was improved, it still was far from its usual levels of chance creation.

It was puzzling that Guardiola only made one of his possible five changes in the second half, bringing Mahrez on seven minutes from the end although the introduction of the Algerian did make a big impact.

Mahrez cut in from the right and dribbled along the byline before a low ball went through Alisson then Bernardo Silva made it 3-2 in stoppage time.

That prompted a frantic final few minutes with Fernandinho and Mahrez both seeing shots deflected out for corners while Raheem Sterling’s weak shot was easily saved by Alisson.

At the other end Steffen did well to stop Roberto Firmino as Liverpool looked to finish off the contest but the final whistle confirmed its place in its 15th FA Cup final, but its first in 10 years.

For City it was the third straight season in which it has lost in the last four of the FA Cup.

“We gave everything after a tough first half,” said Guardiola.

“For the first goal, the set pieces they are very, very strong. The second was an accident. Difficult to come back but they did it perfectly in the second half,” he added.

Liverpool remains in contention for four trophies having won the League Cup, reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and still being in the race for the Premier League title where it sits a point behind leader City.

U.S. Oklahoma passes bill banning near-all abortions

Houston [US]: The state legislature in Oklahoma, a solid red state in south central United States, on Tuesday passed a bill that would make almost all abortions illegal.

Without debate, the state’s Republican-controlled House voted 70-14 to approve the bill, under which performing an abortion in the state would become a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a 100,000-U.S.-dollar fine. It allows only one exception for a medical emergency performed to save the life of the mother.
The bill, which passed the state Senate last year, is now awaiting Republican Governor Kevin Stitt’s final sign off. Stitt has previously said he would sign any anti-abortion bill that comes to his desk.

The bill follows the suit of a highly controversial Texas law taking effect last year that allows private citizens to sue anyone who performs, aids or abets an abortion after fetal cardiac activity is detected (usually after six weeks of pregnancy) without exceptions in cases of rape or incest.

The number of U.S. states passing restrictive abortion laws has grown in recent years. Just in the past three weeks, Arizona and Kentucky state legislatures voted to approve a 15-week ban on abortions while Idaho Governor Brad Little signed a law that bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy.

States like South Dakota and Tennessee have also moved legislation that takes aim at medication abortion, requiring women to make multiple trips to their doctor’s office in order to receive the two-dose regimen, said The Hill report.

The Guttmacher Institute found that approximately 862,320 abortions occurred in the United States in 2017, resulting in an abortion rate of 13.5 per 1,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44. (ANI/Xinhua)

IPL 2022: We have been brilliant with ball in all three games, says LSG captain KL Rahul.

The Lucknow Super Giants Team went on to score 169/7 in 20 overs despite tottering at 27 for three at one stage and ultimately went on to win the match by 12 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad here at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
“What’s pleasing is that we’ve found a way to stay in the game and give ourselves a good chance of winning. We did that again. Not ideal to lose three wickets early, but we need to give ourselves a little time since we bat deep and we have power at the death. That’s something we need to learn as a batting group – how to do play risk-free cricket while looking for fours. But with the ball we’ve been brilliant in all three games.” said LSG captain KL Rahul in the post-match presentation ceremony. After being in deep trouble at 27 for three Lucknow Super Giants desperately needed a partnership and captain KL Rahul along with Deepak Hooda stitched a partnership of 87 runs to help their team reach a fighting total. KL Rahul top-scored for his side scoring 68 off 50 balls while Hooda scored 33-ball 51.

IPL 2022, SRH vs LSG Highlights: KL Rahul, Avesh Khan Heroics Help Lucknow Super Giants Register 12-Run Win | Cricket News
“I’ve been playing with Hooda for the last 3-4 seasons, he doesn’t come out of the nets. Don’t really need to do so many nets when you’re batting so well, but he never comes out of the nets. He had to wait for his chance, he’s using that, and now is becoming someone you can rely on, in the middle order, ” said KL Rahul.
Lucknow captain KL Rahul is not worried about the top-order collapse and failure of his opening batting partner Quinton de Kock as he backs his team’s depth in the batting.

“We don’t chat so much in the middle. As opening batsmen, you give yourselves a couple of balls and if the wicket is good then both openers have to go. We have that extra batter with Jason coming in, so the plan is to put pressure on the opposition. That’s the body language we want to carry. To go out there and hit boundaries and sixes, but choose smart shots. If we lost wickets early, we need to quickly assess the situation and see what the target should be. Quinton and Lewis wanted to put pressure on Washington, but it didn’t come off, ” explained KL Rahul.
Lucknow Super Giants under the leadership of KL Rahul have won two consecutive matches after starting their campaign with a defeat against Gujarat Titans and now they will lock horns against Delhi Capitals on Thursday.

Sri Lanka imposes nationwide social media blackout

Colombo [Sri Lanka]: Sri Lanka government imposed a nationwide social media blackout after midnight on Sunday, April 3, according to an internet observatory.

Some two dozen social media platforms were affected including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram.
“Confirmed: Real-time network data show Sri Lanka has imposed a nationwide social media blackout, restricting access to platforms including Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, and Instagram as emergency is declared amid widespread protests,” NetBlocks tweeted.

Ahead of the planned protest for Sunday, the island nation had declared a 36-hour curfew from Saturday to Monday as the country faced a severe power crisis and rising inflation.

The island nation of 22 million people is having a hard time dealing with blackouts for up to 13 hours a day as the government scrambles to secure foreign exchange to pay for fuel imports.

A London based rights watchdog on Saturday warned the Sri Lankan government that the declaration of emergency in the island nation, in the name of public security, should not become a pretext for human rights violations.

“Sri Lanka: The declaration of the state of emergency in the name of public security should not become a pretext for further human rights violations. The order declaring a state of emergency intends to restrict the rights to freedom of association, assembly and movement as well as due process protections,” Amnesty International said in a statement.

“In the context of growing public discontentment with the government’s handing of economics crisis, the state of emergency could have the effect of stifling dissent by creating fear, facilitating arbitrary arrests and detention,” the statement added.

On Friday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued the Extraordinary Gazette declaring a state of public emergency in Sri Lanka with immediate effect.

Rajapaksa said the emergency was declared in the interests of public security, protection of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community. (ANI)

For the second time in two Tests, Pakistan endured a horrible batting collapse in the Test series against Australia. After the home team lost seven wickets for 100 runs in the second Test in Karachi, Day 3 of the third and final match in Lahore saw Pakistan’s batting appear clueless against the Australian pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. With the ball reverse swinging, Cummins and Starc produced a spell in partnership for the ages as Pakistan, from 214/2, went crumbling and were knocked over for 268.

Cummins finished with 5/56 while Starc grabbed 4/33 as Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for just 20 runs. As expected, the world of Twitter was in an unforgiving mood and took shots at the Pakistan team for their poor show with the bat.

Former England batter and commentator Rob Key said of Cummins: “He is extraordinary the way he is able to just keep coming.

“He never lets up, every single ball … He’s been an inspired choice as captain.”

It was Cummins’ never-say-die attitude and his utmost belief that a result could be salvaged in Lahore that inspired his troops in the final session.

Crucially, his catch brought out-of-form Fawad Alam to the crease.

Of course, Mitchell Starc had a major role to play as he produced his best bowling of the series to skittle both Alam and Mohammad Rizwan.

Then, as Pakistan was drowning, Cummins stepped on its head to finish the day with sensational figures of 5-56.

In doing so, Cummins became just the fifth Australian captain to take a five-wicket haul in an away Test, and the first since Michael Clarke against the West Indies in 2012.

It should be said, however, that for all the excitement of the seven-wicket implosion, achieving a result in Lahore is still far from simple.

The chances of a draw have dramatically reduced, but Australia still must take at least 10 more wickets against a side that has batted for 116 and 171 overs in its past two innings.

As a result, Wednesday night for Cummins will likely be spent considering declaration scenarios rather than reflecting on his individual feat.

For the third time in his captaincy career, Cummins will likely be asked to make a declaration to chase a win late in a Test.

As yet, he has not had a successful declaration, while his deputy, Steve Smith, managed to secure a late win against England in the final session of day five in Adelaide in December when Cummins was forced to miss the match due to being a Covid close contact.

Since then, England held on for an unlikely draw in Sydney with Cummins’ declaration coming too late, while Pakistan grinded out an even less probable draw in Karachi last week.

Unlike either of those Tests, the result of an entire series will largely hinge on Australia’s tactics on day four.

For all of Cummins’ brilliance with the ball, it could be forgotten if he gets it wrong in Lahore.

In one spell, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have possibly turned the series.

Possibly because, as it was shown in Karachi, wickets remain few and far between.

The duo teamed up to destroy Pakistan, as they took 7-20 to bowl the home side out for 268.

A fast bowler’s paradise? Absolutely not, according to Starc.

“I don’t think the wicket helps the quicks at all,” he said plainly following day three.

“The key is reverse swing.

“For us, Patty and I used that reverse swing today. That’s the one area that’s going to be a big weapon for the bowlers.

“There’s certainly nothing in it for the bowlers.”

Even still, for the first time since the third day of the second Test, Australia got on a roll and had the home side on the back foot.

Time is now their enemy, with Cummins’ Australian side holding just a lead of 134 runs with two days to play.

While Cummins kept Australia in the fight, Starc’s two thunderbolts to bowl Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan in quick succession swung the Test in Australia’s favour.

Starc, who had struggled with the exception of his spell on day three of the second Test, reaped the rewards as he finished with 4-33 from 20.4 overs while his skipper took 5-56 from 24 overs.

The duo are now first and fourth on the leading wicket-takers list for the series, with Cummins’ nine scalps topping the charts.

The opening bowling pair drew comparisons with the best of the best, with their reverse swing and searing pace being compared to Pakistan greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

Manchester United take on Tottenham on Saturday in a huge showdown for fourth place.

Spurs’ last visit to Old Trafford came 15 months ago and feels like a different era entirely, a 6-1 win when Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were in the dugouts.

Both sides have endured numerous revivals, collapses, peaks and troughs since – and yet find themselves roughly in the same position with inconsistency impacting their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Manchester United v Tottenham

With both fourth-placed Arsenal and sixth-placed West Ham in action a day later, a win for either United or Tottenham will catapult them into the prime position to chase down the Gunners.

All eyes at Carrington will be on Cristiano Ronaldo after the striker flew home to Portugal having picked up an injury ahead of the Manchester derby.

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that both Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani have returned to full training and will be available to face Spurs.

However, Scott McTominay is expected to miss out as United look to avoid making a calf injury worse.

Tottenham are without Ryan Sessegnon due to muscle issue ahead of the trip north. Sergio Reguilon is expected to come in at left wing-back.

Japhet Tanganga is also sidelined and Oliver Skipp will miss out with a groin injury.

Two teams who can look incredible one week then dismal the next. Predicting which Tottenham team will turn up is particularly difficult with Antonio Conte’s side as sublime against Everton as they were bad against Middlesbrough.

As for United, Rangnick has struggled to get his star-studded side to look threatening against even the meekest of teams.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

The away team has won each of their last three meetings.

Chelsea’s Roman Abramovich sanctioned by UK

The sale of the club  on hold as activities such as selling new tickets banned!.

Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich attends the UEFA Women's Champions League final

European football champions Chelsea are among the assets of Roman Abramovich frozen by the British government after he was sanctioned for his close links with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich, who had been under scrutiny following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, had announced he was selling the Premier League club last week.

That process is now on hold, leaving the west London club, ranked by Forbes as the seventh most valuable in world football at $3.2bn, in a state of limbo, operating under a special government licence through May 31 that allows it to keep playing.

“The licence is a safety net to protect the sport, the Premier League, the wider football pyramid down to the grassroots game, loyal fans and other clubs. It will deprive Mr Abramovich of benefitting from his ownership of the club and mean he cannot circumvent UK sanctions,” the government said in a statement.

The billionaire was among seven wealthy Russians who had their assets frozen under British sanctions on Thursday.

Team activities from selling new tickets to signing players were instantly restricted.

Chelsea was put up for sale last week as calls grew for the owner to be sanctioned for his close links to Putin’s regime, with Abramovich saying the proceeds would go to a foundation started by him for the victims of the war. The sale process is also subject to government approval.

“While the current license does not permit the sale of the club at this time, the government is open to a sale of the club and would consider an application for a new license to allow for a sale,” the government said. “Proceeds from any sale could not go to the sanctioned individual while he is subject to sanctions.”

The government called Abramovich a “pro-Kremlin oligarch” who is worth more than 9 billion pounds ($12bn), and should be punished due to his association with Putin. Abramovich was also linked with “destabilising … undermining and threatening” Ukraine.

Abramovich, whose fortune was made in oil and aluminium during the chaotic years that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, has not condemned Russia’s invasion of its neighbour in two statements since the war began two weeks ago.

The British government said Abramovich has obtained financial benefits from Putin’s administration, including contracts in the buildup to Russia hosting the 2018 World Cup.

The Russian bought Chelsea in 2003 for a reported 140 million pounds ($184m) and his investment has resulted in the most successful era in their history as they won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and the Champions League twice.

The football club said it would seek changes to the licence under which it must now operate.

“(We) intend to engage in discussions with the UK Government regarding the scope of the licence,” Chelsea said in a statement.

“This will include seeking permission for the licence to be amended in order to allow the club to operate as normal as possible.”

Sports journalist Gavin Hamilton told Al Jazeera that sanctions will make it “very difficult” for Abramovich to sell the club.

“He has lent the club 1.5 billion pounds ($1.97bn) over the course of his ownership. He was prepared to write those debts off. But now if the assets are frozen, Chelsea are officially 1.5 billion pounds in debt and unable to repay that,” Hamilton said from London.

“No potential owner is going to be prepared to take on a club with that sort of amount of debt, and when the assets have been frozen in the future,” he added.

Anyone with tickets until the end of the season in May can keep on going to matches but no new tickets can be purchased, which affects the ability of any away fans to go to Stamford Bridge.

The club also has to stop selling merchandise at its shop.

Staff, including players, can continue to be paid. The club’s wage bill was almost 28 million pounds ($37m) a month in the most recent accounts.

The club has been effectively placed under a transfer ban since it cannot spend on registering new players, while there are doubts over the ability to offer new contracts.

Only 500,000 pounds ($657,000) can be spent on staging each match at Stamford Bridge, including on security and catering.

A maximum of 20,000 pounds ($26,300) can be spent on travel to matches. Chelsea plays in France at Lille in the Champions League next week.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-: PSG in another poor collapse as BENZEMA embarrasses the French Champs!

Real Madrid completed a comeback via Benzema against  PSG on an epic CHAMPIONS LEAGUE  night .

We are the kings of Europe, read the huge banner that ran behind the south goal at the Santiago Bernabeu. With Karim Benzema leading from the front, Real Madrid certainly played like it to knock Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League.

In Kylian Mbappe, the French side have most people’s pick for the best player in Europe right now. But Benzema now has 30 goals for the season and a fair claim to the crown, too.

Real Madrid vs Paris Saint-Germain LIVE: talkSPORT commentary as Benzema scores 16-minute hat-trick to eliminate PSG despite Mbappe bagging opener - Pochettino's side 'press the self destruct button'; Messi disasterclass during Champions

His brilliant second-half hat-trick — including two in two crazy minutes — turned this game on its head after young pretender Mbappe had looked to have put the tie beyond Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The old fox was left smiling at the end. His opposite number Mauricio Pochettino surely faces the sack sooner rather than later. Lionel Messi’s arrival was supposed to bring the club its first Champions League title. As it is, they will not even be in the quarter-finals.

Lots gets said about PSG’s front three being an indulgence that the other eight players in the team can ill-afford. But when it works, it works so breathtakingly well that it is hard to imagine there are too many complaints in the dressing room.

Neymar’s first-time pass over the top of Madrid’s defence towards the end of the first half was glorious enough — and when Mbappe raced on to it you sensed something even better was about to come.

Real Madrid vs PSG - Goals and highlights - Champions League 21/22 | Marca

The 23-year-old had already been denied on several occasions by the towering figure of Thibaut Courtois, but that didn’t stop him shooting early, hard and low, to give PSG the lead on the night and double their advantage over the two legs.

Others might have continued the sprint towards goal, but not Mbappe. He could see enough net between Courtois and his near post to let fly and PSG had the goal that their first-half performance deserved.

But that illustrious front three stood and watched as Madrid hit Paris Saint-Germain with a stunning comeback in the second half to charge through.

Thousands of their fans had lined the streets around the stadium to welcome the team bus before the game. But despite the flares, the waved phones and the songs about their various Champions League conquests, there was a reticence every time the chant of ‘Yes we can’ went up.

This was a big task, made more difficult by the absence of Casemiro and Ferland Mendy and the mere presence of the man they are convinced they will sign in the summer, Mbappe.

But belief grew at the start of the game when Vinicius Junior crossed for Marco Asensio and the forward saw his shot saved. Vinicius then dribbled inside and found Benzema, but Messi broke things up on the edge of the area and when he released Neymar, PSG were away.

Mbappe finished the move off but Courtois saved his shot.

Courtois saved again from PSG’s leading scorer, this time after he had capitalised on a mistake from Eder Militao. The goal was coming — all the warning signs were there.

Benzema curled a shot just wide of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s far post in a rare Madrid attack but with Messi pinging short passes into Mbappe, PSG were looking comfortable defensively and quietly dangerous in attack.

On 34 minutes, Mbappe had the ball in the back of the net.

He celebrated the emphatic finish in front of Madrid’s supporters, but by the time he had turned back to his team-mates the goal had been ruled out for offside against Nuno Mendes.

He was not to be denied, though — and from that superb Neymar pass he buried the very next opportunity to send his team 1-0 up at the break.

Mbappe had the ball in the back of the net again at the restart but again the flag was raised for offside. He was enjoying himself and there was little, within the rules of the game, that Real Madrid could do to contain him.

Dani Carvajal shoulder-charged him off the side of the pitch and earned a yellow card. If he hadn’t, he might have been watching from a distance as Mbappe got the second.

Real Madrid Blow 2-Goal Lead in Draw vs. PSG, Qualify for UCL Round-of-16 | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and Highlights

As it was, Madrid scored next. When Benzema robbed Donnarumma on his line, Vinicius latched on to the loose ball and gave it back to the Frenchman to score.

PSG’s goalkeeper came out of his area to complain to referee Danny Makkelie but it seemed like a gesture born more of embarrassment than a belief that the decision would be changed.

The three tenors at the other end of the pitch looked back at the keeper’s bum note. Madrid were right back in it. Now the Bernabeu really believed and, with Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez’s energy from the bench, they were starting to test PSG’s defence. Benzema made it two when Luka Modric slipped him through after fine work from Vinicius.

His hat-trick, and the comeback, was completed straight from PSG’s kick-off when Vinicius bullied his Brazil team-mate Marquinhos into a mistake, inadvertently feeding Benzema — who made it three with another unerring finish.

Liverpool edge past 10 man inter

Liverpool continue their quest for more silverware as the Nerazzurri suffer another CL knockout blow.

These are the fourth Champions League quarter-finals of Klopp’s Liverpool days and that level of consistency – the general uplift in standards – is the bigger picture here. There was no rapture at the final whistle because they are used to winning matches at Anfield these days but even so, the Klopp effect has been transformative.

Liverpool vs Inter Milan result: Five things we learned as Reds progress in Champions League | The Independent

This was the end of a 15-game unbeaten run for Liverpool in all competitions that stretches back to the Dec 28 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power and had endured up to this point through games in all three the trophies for which they are still in contention as well as the one they have already won. That first leg win in Milan was enough and, as Klopp would later say, there were some near misses – Mohamed Salah hit both posts at the Kop end in the second half and Joel Matip sent a first-half header against the bar.

“The art of football is to lose the right games,” Klopp said. “I still hate it [losing games]”. This was, however, one that he said his team could afford to lose and he returned more than once to the subject of the quality of Inter’s performance.

“A really good football team,” he said, “they are like Leeds under [Marcelo] Bielsa just with more quality.” He criticised his team’s counter-pressing in the first 20 minutes and reflected on the missed chances – “a bit slapstick at times”.

Liverpool 0-1 Inter Milan (2-1 agg): Jurgen Klopp's side edge past 10-man I Nerazzurri

The game’s outstanding player was the midfielder Arturo Vidal who kept the energy going in that impactful first 20 minutes for his side and unlike his fellow Chilean managed to last the distance. It was only in the latter stages of the first half that it looked like Liverpool had fought back and seized the advantage. Vidal’s efforts were at last rewarded with a booking delivered so emphatically that the Spanish referee Lahoz did not stop advancing on his intended target and the pair ended up in a reconciliatory embrace.

So much talent in this Inter team but struggling for consistent form since the turn of the year. Friday’s 5-0 win over Salernitana was the first in six games in all competitions including the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in San Siro the previous month.

In the early stages they looked impressive with a midfield five and Martinez and Sanchez leading the press. On the back foot they had a five-man defence with Ivan Perisic and Denzel Dumfries closing down the wider positions. It took a while for Liverpool to get the measure of them.

Liverpool vs Inter Milan stopped due to medical emergency in Kop as team doctors rush to treat fan

There was a strong performance from Virgil van Dijk even if he stood off the strike of Martinez a little too long when the goal did eventually come. Before then Liverpool had been in control in the latter stages of the first half. They looked most dangerous from corners and free-kicks whipped in by the endlessly adaptable right foot of Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was from that side the cross came for Matip’s header against the bar and then, from the ensuing corner, van Dijk had a good header blocked by Milan Skriniar.

There seemed to be a momentum that was unstoppable about Liverpool until Matip’s mistake on the right side on 61 minutes that was recycled into a fine goal for Inter seconds later. Within three passes it went to Martinez, the final ball coming from Sanchez, and the Argentinian striker in the inside-left position struck a perfect right-foot shot with enough slice on it to take the ball beyond the reach of Alisson.

So to the red card, just two minutes after the goal. Sanchez did get to the ball but his lack of control then took him into Fabinho. Asked about it later, Klopp was emphatic. “I don’t understand why we have to discuss it,” he said. “If Fab had gone with a long leg then both players could have got injured.

Liverpool Inter Milan live score champions league latest updates

“In the end he [Sanchez] couldn’t stop and hit Fab in a really bad way. I think he was quite lucky that he didn’t get a [red] card for the foul on Thiago. Passion is good but if it leads to these things, it doesn’t help.”

Referee Lahoz followed up with the dismissal of one of Inzaghi’s staff. Salah would hit the post again and the substitute Luis Diaz also had a chance for the equalizer although in the end Liverpool were never quite safe until the whistle.

New Galaxies Discovered: there could be more galaxies hidden behind cosmic dust, Is there any life?

KSHVID DESK with Inputs from Agencies.

Two previously invisible galaxies that are 29 billion light-years away have been discovered by the astronomers at the University of Copenhagen’s Cosmic Dawn Center.

This discovery has now suggested that up to one in five such distant galaxies remain hidden from our telescopes as it is covered up by cosmic dust. This new insight has changed the perception of the evolution of our universe since the Big Bang.
The study has been published in the ‘Nature Journal’.

New Galaxies Image

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen’s Niels Bohr Institute have just discovered two previously invisible galaxies that are 29 billion light-years away from Earth. The two galaxies had been invisible to the optical lens of the Hubble Space Telescope, hidden behind a thick layer of cosmic dust that surrounded them.

But with the help of the giant ALMA radio telescopes (Atacama Large Millimetre Array) in Chile’s Atacama Desert, which can capture radio waves emitted from the coldest, darkest depths of the universe, the two invisible galaxies suddenly appeared.

Is there any life on new galaxies?

“We were looking at a sample of very distant galaxies, which we already knew existed from the Hubble Space Telescope. And then we noticed that two of them had a neighbour that we didn’t expect to be there at all. As both of these neighbouring galaxies are surrounded by dust, some of their light is blocked, making them invisible to Hubble,” explained Associate Professor Pascal Oesch of the Cosmic Dawn Center at the Niels Bohr Institute.

With the help of the giant ALMA radio telescopes in Chile’s Atacama Desert, the two invisible galaxies suddenly appeared.

10-20 per cent of the universe’s galaxies are missing.

The new discovery suggested that the very early universe contains many more galaxies than previously assumed. They simply lie hidden behind dust consisting of small particles from stars. However, they can now be detected thanks to the highly sensitive ALMA telescope and the method used by the researchers.

Facts about the research:

  1. The two hidden galaxies are so far called REBELS-12-2 and REBELS-29-2.
  2. The light from the two invisible galaxies has travelled about 13 billion years to reach us.
  3. The galaxies are now located 29 billion light-years away due to the universe’s expansion.
  4. Researchers used the ALMA telescope, which is based on radio signals.
  5. The ALMA Telescope combined the light of all its 66 antennae to create a high-resolution image and spectra of the sky. By comparing these new galaxies with previously known sources in the very early universe, approximately 13 billion years ago, the researchers estimated that between 10 and 20 per cent of such early galaxies may still remain hidden behind curtains of cosmic dust. “Our discovery demonstrates that up to one in five of the earliest galaxies may have been missing from our map of the heavens. Before we can start to understand when and how galaxies formed in the Universe, we first need a proper accounting,” said Pascal Oesch.
New Galaxies suggest that many more exists but we dont know yet
  1. To help with that task, NASA, ESA and the Canadian Space Agency have built a new super telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, which is expected to be launched into orbit on the 18th of December, 2021. With its strength and improved technology, the telescope will gaze even deeper into the universe and contribute new knowledge about its origins. This will, among many other things, help Cosmic Dawn researchers at the Niels Bohr Institute see through the cosmic dust. “The next step is to identify the galaxies we overlooked because there are far more than we thought. That’s where the James Webb Telescope will be a huge step forward. It will be much more sensitive than Hubble and able to investigate longer wavelengths, which ought to allow us to see these hidden galaxies with ease,” stated Pascal Oesch. “We are trying to put the big puzzle about the universe’s formation together and answer the most basic question: ‘Where does it all come from?’ The invisible galaxies that we’ve discovered in the early universe are some of the first building blocks of the mature galaxies we see around us in the Universe today. So that’s where it all began,” Pascal added.

Reluctantly accepting his fate, Eddie Brock tries to co-exist with Venom. However, it’s a rocky relationship, to say the least. Brock also attempts to revive his career by interviewing Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who doesn’t trust anyone else. But things go wrong when Cletus also gets infected with a deadly and bloodthirsty symbiote. Brock must quickly find a way to work with Venom and deal with the Carnage brought on by Kasady.

Tom Hardy Called Andy Serkis for Venom Motion Capture Help | IndieWire

Although the plot is pretty straightforward for a comic-book flick, the banter between Brock and Venom is often the film’s most fascinating element. Brock is constantly trying to quench Venom’s thirst for, well, HUMANS! leading to some amusing exchanges – even if the humour doesn’t land always.

Nevertheless, Tom Hardy’s performance with the CGI character carries the film through some rough patches. Like Hardy, Woody Harrelson fully embraces the film’s quirky, often absurd tonality and certainly enjoys playing the antagonist. Together, they make some of the apparent plot holes easier to ignore.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Anne Weying (Michelle Williams), Francis Barrison (Naomie Harris) and Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham). They have potentially intriguing roles but don’t get much development beyond some hasty plot beats and they end up being the story’s weakest links. In addition, the editing is shady in places, indicative of significant trimming, perhaps the right decision.

The action is easy to follow and looks great in 3D without being overbearing. While the film meets the basic requirements for comic-book movie enjoyment, its most essential sequence is the post-credit scene that raises the bar for the Venom character.

Not only does it change the scope for where he and Eddie Brock will show up next, but it also makes this problematic yet oddly entertaining sequel more than worthwhile.

No improvement in Delhi’s air quality

New Delhi [India]: No improvement was witnessed in the air quality of the national capital on Wednesday as the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi continued to remain in the ‘Very Poor’ category at 387, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board at 10 am.

The pollution level in the National Capital Region (NCR), especially Noida and Gurugram, witnessed a drastic deterioration. The AQI in Noida dropped from the upper end of ‘very poor’ category to the upper end of the ‘Severe’ category at 479 today. The air quality in Gurugram has also deteriorated from yesterday, but remains in the ‘Very Poor’ category at 352, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
As per SAFAR’s bulletin, the air quality in Delhi is likely to slip to the lower end of the ‘Severe’ category by today.

“Surface Winds are likely to be very calm with a low ventilation index pushing AQI to severe by today and fluctuate between severe to upper end of very poor thereafter until November 18,” it said.

The agency also said that the intrusion of stubble burning related pollutants into Delhi is not likely for the two days due to unfavorable (winds coming from east direction) transport level winds.

The effective farm fire count has reduced to 1820 and its contribution to Delhi’s PM2.5 yesterday was 8 per cent, SAFAR reported.

“The peak in fire count appears to have reached last week and fire counts are now starting to show a declining trend which is delayed by about one week from the previous year due to the late withdrawal of the monsoon,” the bulletin further said.

As per India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) outlook, the air quality is likely to remain in the ‘Very Poor’ category and “improve significantly from November 21 owing to relatively strong winds.”

As per the IMD, Delhi today recorded a minimum temperature of 9.6 degrees Celsius (°C), while the maximum temperature recorded was 27 degrees Celsius (°C). “The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy with mist,” it added.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’. (ANI)

‘Will continue to back Team India..’

New Delhi [India], November 14 (ANI): Former India men’s cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Saturday penned a heartfelt note on social media following Men in Blue’s forgetful campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Expressing his gratitude, Shastri described the journey with Team India as ‘incredible’ and said he will continue to support the team until he is able to watch the sport.
Tagging skippers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and deputy Ajinkya Rahane in his post, Shastri added that he will cherish the memories with the team.

“Now that the penny has dropped…thank you so much for making me part of this incredible journey. Memories that I will cherish and a team that I will continue to back till the time I’m able to watch the sport #TeamIndia @imVkohli @ImRo45 @ajinkyarahane88,” Ravi Shastri tweeted.

Shastri (head coach), Bharat Arun (bowling coach), and R Sridhar’s (fielding coach) tenures ended with India crashing out of the ICC T20 World Cup in the Super 12 stage. And now Rahul Dravid will be taking over as the head coach and his first assignment would be home T20I and Test series against New Zealand.

Under Shastri, Team India played 43 Tests, out of which the side won 25 and lost 13. Not to forget, Shastri and Co also have a good showing in England on their CV. Team India lead the five-match series 2-1 and the final match of the series will be played next year.

Team India played 76 ODIs and 65 T20Is under Shastri. The Men in Blue managed to win 51 ODIs and 43 T20Is. (ANI)

Brian Williams leaving NBC News after nearly three decades

Washington [US] : Veteran journalist Brian Williams on Tuesday confirmed that he is set to depart NBC News after a 28-year run at the broadcasting television network.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Brian Williams, longtime anchor and MSNBC’s chief host will leave NBCUniversal at the end of 2021 after nearly three decades with the company. The 62-year-old journalist opted not to renew his contract with MSNBC, where he has hosted ‘The 11th Hour’ since 2016.
The Hollywood Reporter obtained an email sent to the NCB staff by MSNBC president Rashida Jones. In the memo, she said Brian “has informed us he would like to take the coming months to spend time with his family.”
In the memo, she further said “Brian’s time at NBC has been marked by breaking countless major stories, attracting leading journalists and guests to his programs, and most especially, great resiliency.”
Jones added, “He has built a fiercely loyal following for The 11th Hour and we and our viewers will miss his penetrating questions and thoughtful commentary.”
The award-winning journalist began his anchoring career on MSNBC in 1996. He has also anchored the weekend edition of NBC Nightly News. He became that evening news program’s weekday anchor in 2004 following the retirement of Tom Brokaw, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Brian, who served as chief White House correspondent early in his career, faced backlash in 2015 after exaggerations and falsehoods were found in some of his reporting, including reports from Iraq, and from New Orleans after it had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Despite removing him entirely from the company, NBCUniversal ultimately decided to replace him with Lester Holt from the Nightly News anchor desk.
The veteran anchor re-joined MSNBC in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At that time Brian was initially roped in for a temporary role meant to run through the 2016 presidential election. That temporary program later became ‘The 11th Hour’, where he even handled additional duties like anchoring major breaking news events.
In a viral video clip that features Brian announcing his exit from the company, he assured his “loyal fans” that “The 11th Hour will remain in good hands, produced by the best team in cable news.”
“This is the end of a chapter and the beginning of another. There are many things I want to do, and I’ll pop up again somewhere. For the next few months, I’ll be with my family, the people I love most and the people who enabled my career to happen,” Brian said

T20 WC: New Zealand eliminate India with 8 wicket win

New Zealand reach semis with eight-wicket win.

All hopes for the Indian cricket team were dashed thanks to a classy and controlled performance from New Zealand. Led by Williamson and supported by Conway, the black caps strolled to victory and to the semis as a fighting but poor Afghanistan team succumbed to a dismal defeat.

New Zealand beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in their last Super 12 stage match of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Chasing a total of 125 runs, New Zealand lost both the openers in the first 10 overs but an unbeaten 68-run partnership between skipper Kane Williamson (40*) and Devon Conway (38*) guided New Zealand to victory and semi-final qualification. With this result, India and Afghanistan are both out of the race for the final four. However, the Virat Kohli-led side has one more game left in the tournament against Namibia on Monday. The result of the India-Namibia game will make no change in India’s fate in the ongoing tournament. This is also the first time since 2012 that India failed to make it to the semi-finals of any ICC event– 2013 (Champions Trophy- winners), 2014 (T20 World Cup- runners-up), 2015 (ODI World Cup- semi-finalists), 2016 (T20 World Cup- semi-finalists), 2017 (Champions Trophy- runners-up), 2019 (ODI World Cup- semifinalists), 2021 (World Test Championship- runners-up).

After a decade India failed to make it to semis in an ICC tournament. But, what will hurt more is another great opportunity lost.

Stubble burning, firecrackers responsible for heavy pollution in Delhi: Environment Minister

New Delhi [India]: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday said that the sudden increase in the number of stubble burning incidents and firecrackers are the two major reasons for heavy pollution in the Delhi region.

Speaking to the media, Rai said, “According to NASA pictures, there are almost 3,500 stubble burning incidents taking place in neighbouring states.”
In a bid to curb air pollution, Gopal Rai on Friday installed an anti-smog gun to Improve the Air Quality in national quality. It has been put up at ITO, considered one of the most polluted areas in the capital due to traffic at the intersection.

He said, “Most of the citizens of Delhi didn’t burn the crackers on Diwali but yes several people after giving religious colour into it, intentionally burned the firecrackers. Delhi Government has already made several appeals to the people regarding the pollution condition, but opposition parties just for the sake of politics encouraged people to burn firecrackers, which now resulted in deteriorated conditions.”

“We are installing several movable and immovable anti-smog machines in Delhi to curb the pollution. 10 big movable anti-smog machines will be on the roads. We are also initiating the process of sprinkling water at places where the pollution is severe,” he added.

The air quality in various parts of the National Capital Region deteriorated as it entered the ‘severe’ category on Friday morning, following Diwali.

As per the Ministry Earth Sciences’ SAFAR-India application, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Noida slipped to the ‘severe’ category. The concentration of Pollution Meter (PM) 10 stood at 448.

Meanwhile, the concentration of PM 10 stood at 430 in Mathura Road today morning.

As a thick layer of smog shrouds Delhi, several people here complained of itchy throat and watery eyes. Noida’s air quality recorded the concentration of PM 10 stood at AQI of 448. (ANI)

Time is running out, Team India needs to perform miracles: Irfan Pathan

New Delhi [India] : Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that the time is running out for the Virat Kohli-led side in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the team now needs to perform miracles in order to reach the semi-finals.
Pathan’s comment came after India suffered an eight-wicket loss against New Zealand on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the Super 12 stage. “Well done NZ you were too good. And for team India, they need to get together and perform miracles. Time is running out. #indvsnz,” tweeted Pathan.
Trent Boult and Ish Sodhi starred with the ball before Daryl Mitchell smashed 49 off 35 to help New Zealand defeat India by eight wickets in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
India was restricted to 110/7 in the allotted twenty overs against New Zealand. No batter was able to stay at the crease for long, and what followed was a lacklustre performance.
For the all-important clash, India made two changes — Shardul Thakur and Ishan Kishan came in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit Sharma came into bat at number three, while Ishan came out to open alongside KL Rahul, but this move backfired as Ishan did not manage to leave a mark with the bat.
Kohli and boys will next take on Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan Opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto calls October 29 protest against inflation

Larkana [Pakistan]: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan has snatched away the freedoms of the country’s people including “the sanctity of the vote to freedom of speech as well as that of the media.”

Further talking about the rise in inflation in the country, the party chairman announced holding protests on October 29 in front of local press clubs throughout the country, reported Tribune.
According to The Express Tribune, Bilawal on Monday while chairing a meeting of party leaders and workers said that the Pakistani Prime Minister in involved in destruction, not change.

“Imran Khan has taken away the freedoms that have been bestowed upon the people under the Constitution. Imran tried to snatch it all”, Tribune quoted Bilawal as saying.

Further talking about the rise in inflation in the country, the party chairman announced holding protests on October 29 in front of local press clubs throughout the country, reported Tribune.

T20 WC: Scan done, Hardik is fit to go for New Zealand game

In what comes as good news for Team India ahead of the next game against New Zealand in the ICC T20 World Cup, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is fit for the match after hurting his shoulder in the opening encounter against Pakistan on Sunday.

Dubai [UAE] : All-rounder is already feeling better. “There is no issue and he is already feeling good. It was just a precautionary scan and the team management didn’t wish to take a chance as yesterday was only the first game of the tournament,” the source said. Hardik had been taken for scans after he received a blow on his shoulder during the game against Pakistan.
“Hardik Pandya was hit on his right shoulder while batting. He has now gone for scans,” the BCCI’s media team had informed.
Rizwan (79*) and Babar (68*) didn’t give any chance to India bowlers to come on top as the two batsmen dominated the proceedings. Pakistan chased down the target of 152 without losing a wicket as India looked clueless in their opening match.
This was the first time that India lost a T20I by ten wickets. Coincidentally, this was also the first time that Pakistan won a T20I by ten wickets.
India will next square off against New Zealand on Sunday, October 31 while Pakistan will take on New Zealand on Tuesday.

As he savoured the first Premier League hat-trick of his career, along with kick-starting Claudio Ranieri’s Watford reign in spectacular fashion, Josh King was asked to explain the contrast with his barren time at Everton last season. “I never got given a chance,” he stated, correctly.

Everton gave him plenty on his return. Goodison Park was an incredulous, furious place as a consequence.

One week after enduring a 5-0 defeat by Liverpool, Ranieri’s transformed team turned the tables on Merseyside to inflict a five-goal humbling of their own on Everton and Rafael Benítez. King was central to the rout, albeit with sizeable assistance from his former teammates. The Norway international failed to score in 11 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and his previous Premier League goal had come on the day Bournemouth were relegated here in July 2020. Prolific at Goodison, just not in an Everton shirt.

Joshua King celebrates after completing his hat-trick.

King, who missed last week’s Liverpool defeat, said: “It is a bit personal. I didn’t really get things going here and I felt like I had a point to prove to myself. I think I did that.”

Ranieri was full of praise for the clinical forward and the character shown by the entire Watford team after falling behind to Tom Davies’ opener after three minutes.

“Every time I spoke to my players I told them: ‘Never, never give up’,” said the new Watford manager.

“Atlético Madrid are one of the best teams at not conceding and lost 3-2 to Liverpool. If they can concede three to one of the best teams in the world then it can happen that Watford concede five, but after that you have to fight for every second ball and every duel.” Something Everton failed to do.

Benítez has built goodwill during his early days as Everton manager but Goodison turned in his 11th game in charge. His team gave the crowd good reason, serving up a truly shambolic defensive performance that turned a 2-1 lead in the 78th minute into a 5-2 defeat by the 91st.

Watford walked in some of their late goals as Everton’s defence disintegrated. There were boos on the final whistle from those fans who remained, boos when young Anthony Gordon was substituted and a few boos when Alex Iwobi appeared from the substitutes’ bench. A lengthy injury list provides no mitigation for a display a woeful as this.

The Everton manager said: “Anthony had a good game but he doesn’t have 90 minutes in him yet. He has to improve his stamina. I thought we needed Richarlison [Gordon’s replacement] because he can score goals and he came on the pitch and scored.

“If we finished winning everyone would say it was a great substitution but we made mistake after mistake and that was the key part of the game.”

Ranieri’s substitutes, Emmanuel Dennis and João Pedro, would have far greater impacts.

Rodrigo hits last-gasp penalty to rescue point for Leeds against Wolves

Rodrigo celebrates after his penalty in added time earned Leeds a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves

Even on the day he chose a system associated more with Mike Bassett, Marcelo Bielsa contrived to halt Leeds’s slide in quintessential fashion. They were spared a second successive defeat by the 30-year-old Rodrigo, but his injury-time equaliser was the product of a faith in youth that has been a constant in Bielsa’s long career.

While leaving a fit-again Kalvin Phillips as an unused substitute, Bielsa turned to two teenagers. Crysencio Summerville and Joe Gelhardt are almost half a century Bielsa’s junior. He was manager of Argentina when they were born but Gelhardt brought a happy ending to what Bielsa had termed one of his saddest weeks as Leeds manager.

Perhaps it was a sign of the fearlessness of the young as Gelhardt tore into Wolves; he twice came close to scoring before he was nudged over by Nelson Semedo.

Wolves objected to the award of the penalty – “very soft,” said Bruno Lage – but Gelhardt felt just too fast to stop legally.

Callum Wilson’s overhead stunner earns point for Newcastle at Crystal Palace

Callum Wilson acrobatically volleys in for Newcastle’s equaliser.

A new face in the dugout and still no win. But at least the game began on a positive note for Newcastle supporters as Callum Wilson’s spectacular overhead kick rescued a point against Crystal Palace.

Watched on by the director, Amanda Staveley, in the absence of Yasir al-Rumayyan, Newcastle’s non-executive chairman from Saudi Arabia, the new interim manager, Graeme Jones, showed why he has been trusted with ensuring a smooth transition after Bruce’s departure this week.

A solid if unspectacular performance against vibrant opponents who were desperate to turn a run of draws into victories represented a decent start for the 51-year-old from Gateshead, even if he was grateful for Christian Benteke’s profligacy and the decision to disallow the Belgian’s late goal that would have sealed the points for Palace.

“We came here to win,” said Jones. “That was the intention so the next best thing is a point. It’s a base for us to build from but we all know that there is plenty of work to do still.”

PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP-:Manchester City sweep Brighton aside 4-1

As the final whistle blew, the majority of Brighton’s supporters stood and applauded their side, which to some extent was a curious sight given they had just lost 4-1. But this was a hammering in which the losing team deserved praise having shown character and quality in the second half, dominating possession and territory and securing the goal their efforts deserved. Yet as the home fans cheered so did those in the away end having not just seen a win by Manchester City but another statement of intent.

Four days after dismantling Club Brugge in the Champions League, City were at it again, this time getting the job done in the first half, scoring three times, through Ilkay Gündogan and Phil Foden, twice, during a devastating 18-minute spell. Their approach play was typically quick, slick and accurate and, having secured a fourth goal via Riyad Mahrez’s stoppage-time strike, they climb to second. City will drop back a place should Liverpool beat Manchester United on Sunday but what the champions made abundantly clear here is that when it comes to this season’s title race, they are not going away.

Riyad Mahrez completes the scoring.

This was a collective show of strength by City but one player in their ranks undeniably stood out. Having again been deployed as a false No 9, Foden was again outstanding, displaying intelligence with his movement and excellent technical quality in possession. And then there were his goals. Neither were beautiful – the first a looping, close-range finish on 28 minutes after he had collected Jack Grealish’s pass at the end of a sweeping City counterattack; the second a deflection of Gabriel Jesus’s strike on 31 minutes after the visitors again poured forward having seized possession in midfield – but the fact he was there on both occasions to score was encouraging for City, illustrating this most talented midfielder’s ability to be a poacher for the team.

Pep Guardiola bristled when asked if Foden’s display had persuaded him that, actually, he does not need a striker after all. “One day we’ll lose and you’ll ask me, ‘Do you need a striker?’ I don’t buy this question,” said the manager, but he was nevertheless effusive in his praise of the 21-year-old. “There are players who play positions and there are players who play football – Phil is one of these players,” said Guardiola. “I would like him to play everywhere to be honest because he understands the game so well and he will only improve.”

Phil Foden deflects in Dan Burn’s attempted clearance to put Manchester City 2-0 up. Three minutes later he deflected in a Gabriel Jesus shot to make it three.

Graham Potter was also full of praise for Foden, as he was of City in general, describing them as “top opponents who deserved to win”. Yet the Brighton manager also expressed grievance with how his side went behind on 13 minutes. There was certainly initially an element of controversy to Gündogan’s goal, with the German tapping Bernado Silva’s hooked cross into an empty net after Robert Sánchez, Brighton’s goalkeeper, had failed to properly catch the ball as it looped in the air via a Foden strike. Sánchez insisted to the referee, Kevin Friend, that he been fouled by Jesus in the build-up, and while there was no doubt the Brazilian had put Sánchez off by backing into him as the ball came his way, replays showed he had not fouled him, something confirmed by a VAR check.

From there City went into overdrive, with Silva an especially excellent presence in midfield. Brighton were being ripped apart, partly through their own sloppiness in possession, and come half-time there was no escaping the sense that the hosts were in serious trouble. A first defeat in six games felt inevitable and a second 7-0 scoreline of the day was not out of the question.

Brighton vs Man City live: Highlights and reaction as Phil Foden double downs Seagulls - Manchester Evening News

It was to their immense credit, then, that Brighton responded so well after the break. Having changed his side’s formation from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 at the start of the game, Potter changed the system again, this time to 4-3-1-2, and it formed the basis for a far more aggressive and assured display by the hosts. Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard both forced Ederson into saves before the Brazilian was beaten on 81 minutes via a penalty he gave away after fouling Enock Mwepu, who impressed having come on as a 58th-minute substitute. Alexis Mac Allister, another substitute, converted the spot kick.

“The team were amazing [in the second half],” said Potter. “I was impressed with everyone.”

Having been understandably subdued during the first half, the home spectators were now in raucous mood, clearly sensing their side could strike again. And there was another goal, but it belonged to City after Mahrez scored for a seventh time this season via a lashed close-range finish. The man who played him in with a clever pass? Foden.

Arsenal dominated from the off and were deserved winners against an Aston Villa side who got their tactics all wrong.

There have been sufficient false dawns for the Mikel Arteta project that it would be unwise to ascribe any game as the moment it went “bang,” as he would describe it, without a fair chunk of hindsight. However, as a blueprint for what Arsenal could be one need look no further than this impressive 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

The Emirates Stadium was rocking. Throughout his tenure, Arteta has been at pains to point out how much he and his players need that support. The players fed the collective energy and fed off it, pressing with an intensity that is at best seen in patches, stringing together passing moves and taking shots at volume.

“I think the chemistry is there,” Arteta told CBS Sports. “I think the connection is getting stronger and stronger. I think that they are both enjoying what they have to do.

“They are a big part of our team. When there are moments where the stadium lifts our energy lifts, our belief, our confidence. I think they were terrific tonight.”

Thomas Partey’s first goal for Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s volleyed rebound to a penalty and a deflected strike from Emile Smith Rowe were enough to secure three points against an opponent who seemed utterly shellshocked by this invigorating, effervescent side.

The win is only enough to squeeze the Gunners into the lower reaches of the top half, some way short of where they aspire to be, but more performances like this and Arteta can afford to start looking up.

In a sense, this was a rerun of the first 10 minutes against Crystal Palace, the period leading up to Aubameyang’s opener, but this time it was elongated over the full 45. In every facet of the game, Arsenal were exceptional. The numbers bore it out. For the first time since Arsene Wenger’s final home match in charge, they denied a Premier League opponent a single shot, let alone one on target, in the first half.

In terms of expected goals (xG), the 2.57 they registered in the first half was the highest in a top-flight match since the start of the 2017-18 season. That number was artificially inflated by Emiliano Martinez saving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty only to see the rebound slotted beyond him. Discount that from the equation and it still beats the free-flowing victory over Everton early in the captain’s time at the club to top spot in the charts. It was as complete a performance as any Premier League manager could hope for.

Mikel Arteta celebrates a fine Arsenal performance.

There may have been some fortune in the penalty they were awarded on the stroke of halftime, referee Craig Pawson using the on field monitor to conclude that Matt Targett had got more of Alexandre Lacazette than the ball, but that balanced out an altogether more convincing shout earlier in the half when a free kick had been awarded for a coming together between Ezri Konsa and Lacazette the defender seemed to initiate by grasping a chunk of opposition jersey.

If not a penalty, it was probably a 50-50 that should not have led to the ruling out of Aubameyang’s side footed finish to give them a nine-minute lead.

These players seemed to have swiftly learned the lessons of Monday. The intensity did not abate after Partey’s opener. If anything, they and the goalscorer himself — whose two excellent chances from headers, one converted, might encourage him to kick his addiction to low value efforts from 30-plus yards out — became more aggressive. Saka ought to have done better with his first-time finish from Nuno Tavares’ cross, too close to Emiliano Martinez’s outstretched legs.

Arteta had also learned his lessons. Lacazette was inserted from the outset after his point-saving cameo on Monday, he proved to be the accelerant to those around him. Suddenly, Aubameyang had someone to combine with. Bukayo Saka and Smith Rowe weren’t being asked to thread the needle over 15 yards to a lone striker, but instead had someone dropping deep to give and go. Arsenal seemed to have no idea how to break down a back three in earlier games this season. Now their No. 9’s movement was creating seams for him and others to attack.

Arsenal had moved on from their disappointing result last time out. Aston Villa seemed to have come straight off the pitch from theirs. This was a rerun of the final 10 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers, when they had turned a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 defeat. Certainly, they did not seem ready for the intensity of the occasion, either from their opponents on the pitch nor the boisterous Emirates Stadium crowd who serenaded Martinez with a recurring chant of “Aaron Ramsdale, he’s better than you.”

“I can’t accept the first-half performance,” said Villa boss Dean Smith. “We got dominated physically. It’s something I wouldn’t aim at my players normally and haven’t through a lot of games here.

“We can talk about tactics, systems and style of play but unless you do the basics it’ll be a struggle.”

Even after Jacob Ramsey’s elegantly taken goal in the 82nd minute, they were second to loose balls, John McGinn and then Leon Bailey running into Gabriel-shaped roadblocks.

Villa were timid in every tackle and seemed to have no plan for progressing the ball up to their front two of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings. Until a shot early in the second half, you could have been forgiven for thinking Emiliano Buendia was elsewhere, so starved was he of time on the ball.

It made for a stark contrast with the other man in the No. 10. Villa had submitted two offers for Smith Rowe in the summer, deemed so derisory by Arsenal as to sour relationships between the clubs and their fanbases. If picking a star performer seems unreasonable after such a complete team performance the youngster was certainly among those who shone the brightest. Whenever there was an attack to be built, he was on hand to offer assistance. Passes that have not always found their man in recent games were in just the right spot to trouble the visiting defense.

The goal, when it came, brought with it a release of emotion that can only come from a boyhood Gooner, playing the sort of football he grew up watching. Certainly, Aubameyang’s clipped pass over the top was one to rank among the many great assists this team has produced. There might have been a hefty slice of luck in the way the shot skewed Tyrone Mings but the sheer jubilance of its celebration felt like a vision for what Arteta wants his Arsenal to be.

Hockey India wants Belgium federation to apologise for comments on Indian athletes

New Delhi [India] : Hockey India President Gyanendro Ningobam has written to International Hockey Federation (IHF) CEO Thierry Weil, saying that the federation is disappointed with the reaction shown by some of the national associations on Indian athletes being handed by FIH Hockey Stars Awards.
“I write to you today on behalf of the Hockey India Executive Board that is very disturbed by the reaction of some National Associations and athletes to the announcement of the Indian nominees as the winners of the recently announced FIH Hockey Stars Awards 2021. We believe that the public statements of displeasure at the announcement of the Indian winners is highly disrespectful and not in the spirit of sportsmanship and the sport of Hockey,” said the Hockey India President in his letter, in possession of ANI. “The Indian athletes and Coaches were nominated by a panel of their peers and are just as deserving of the awards as any of the other nominees. The criteria for the selection of the winners of the awards were clearly shared with all National Associations including Hockey India along with the nominees. Hockey India made great efforts to ensure good participation across all categories from our country and now feel publicly penalised for the full-hearted participation and support of the Indian nominees,” he added.
Gurjit Kaur (FIH Player of the Year, Women), Harmanpreet Singh (FIH Player of the Year, Men), Savita (FIH Goalkeeper of the Year, Women), PR Sreejesh (FIH Goalkeeper of the Year, Men), Sharmila Devi (FIH Rising Star of the Year, Women) and Vivek Prasad (FIH Rising Star of the Year, Men) were handed out awards at the FIH Hockey Stars’ ceremony.
“It is disappointing that the Belgium Federation would prefer to question the voting system and the legitimacy of the Indian winners then actually take responsibility for not encouraging more voting and supporting their athletes in the first place. There is no doubt that any of the nominees would have been suitable winners however the voting system has been clear from the start and those that had put in the effort to vote have made their preferences clear,” wrote Ningobam.
“The core of the matter is that these national associations need to first introspect to see their actual level of participation and interest right from the start instead of now questioning the system once results are announced not in their favour. lt has already been stated by FIH that the Asian continent facilitated by the Asian Hockey Federation was very active in ensuring their “National Associations” vote counted,” he added.
Hockey India President also said that it is quite shameful to see European Hockey Federation sitting quiet and not taking any responsibility for the lack of seriousness in voting.
“lt is shameful in contrast that the European Hockey Federation is sitting quiet and not taking responsibility for the lack of activation and seriousness in voting by that their Member Associations while also allowing their athletes and Member Associations undermine the results and showing disrespect to the winners,” said the Hockey India President.
The Indian athletes have legitimately won the polls, in most cases across all three categories yet the shine of winning has been totally undermined by such negative comments by fellow athletes and National Associations. ls it fair that the hard work and efforts of these athletes are being scrutinised and they are being put through such harassment and mental intimidation because they and their National Association made a full commitment to the market and promote themselves,” he stated further.
Signing off, the Hockey India President stated: “We are with this letter requesting the FtH CEO, Thierry Weil to either kindly request the Belgium Federation to issue an official public apology for the demeaning comments on the achievements of the Indian athletes and coaches on social media and if not then refer this matter to the FIH Governance Panel for a thorough investigation into what is discrimination.”

Sonu Sood meets CM : Job portal

New Delhi [india]: Actor Sonu Sood met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Friday and told the latter about his journey of setting up online job portal ‘Pravasi Rojagar’ that offered jobs to the migrant labourers.

While interacting with the Chief Minister, the actor described his experience of helping the migrant laborers in sending them back home in the lockdown last year and how he maintained a database of 7,50,000 migrants and reconnected with them to start his job portal that offered 3,00,000 jobs to the migrants.
“I was connected with the 7,50,000 migrants. I had the data of every migrant. Whenever I used to send them home, I used to ask them that when are they coming back. The migrants told me that that they would come back if they get jobs,” said Sonu.

“They were scared as their parents might stop them from going back to the places where they worked before. There was a lot of anticipation of whether the migrants would come back or not. I thought the problems related to jobs might come,” further said Sonu.

“I thought about what should be done regarding the lack of jobs after lockdown. I made the application ‘Pravasi Rojagar’ and through that technology, I connected with all those migrants. The companies who work in this field got in touch with me and appreciated that you are doing good work,” added Sonu.

Besides the Chief Minister, State’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present in the meeting. (ANI)

Women’s football team eye AFC Asian Cup

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) [India]: The Indian Women’s Team have gathered in Jamshedpur for their preparatory camp leading to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup which is to be hosted in India from January 2022 onwards.

At a time when the pandemic has crippled normal life and normalcy hasn’t yet been restored in all fields, the players are elated on being back at the national camp once again.
Indian Women’s Team captain Ashalata Devi in a statement to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said: “Keeping in mind the current pandemic situation in the world it’s not easy to set up such camps for any sporting events. We are extremely thankful that the Jharkhand Government and AIFF have come together to arrange this camp for the team. We can only hope to move forward together in our preparation for the Asian Cup.”

The Indian women had earlier travelled twice to international exposure tours in Turkey and Uzbekistan wherein they played the likes of Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, and other teams earlier this year.

The Indian Women’s Team has a new Head Coach in the form of Thomas Dennerby. Dennerby has experience of over 30 years in coaching several National squads with much success. The UEFA Pro Diploma Holder had guided Sweden’s Women’s National team to a 3rd-place finish in the FIFA World Cup in 2011, and a quarter-final spot in the 2012 London Olympics.

He also served as the Head Coach of the Nigerian Women’s National team wherein he coached the Super Falcons to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He also helped the Nigerian women to win the AWCON Award 2018 and was awarded the 2018 Coach of the Year in Nigeria.

“Being back in the camp feels absolutely great. Personally, I am even more elated as I am back after a long injury. But we are all aware of the massive task ahead of us, to get ready for the Asian Cup,” winger Sanju Yadav said.

“Everyone is motivated, and our new coach Thomas Dennerby has also been very helpful on and off the pitch. He has experience of coaching at the highest level, and we’re all looking forward to learning as much as we can from him.”

Midfielder Sangita Basfore feels the Indian women’s team is one big family. “We are like one big family. We can now shift focus to preparing for the Asian Cup, and I can guarantee that everyone is highly motivated. We are all very thankful to the Jharkhand Government for hosting us in Jamshedpur,” said Sangita. (ANI)

Khushi Kapoor Stuns In ₹95k Forest Pixie Crop Top Skirt Set

It is celebration time in the Kapoor family, and the whole clan has been serving good looks in their impeccable ensembles. After celebrating Rhea Kapoor and Karan Boolani’s wedding, the whole Kapoor family got together to celebrate Mohit Marwah’s wife Antara Marwah’s baby shower in Mumbai. Looking like a dream, Khushi Kapoor also attended the celebrations in forest pixie crop top skirt set.

Khushi Kapoor attended Antara’s baby shower in a pastel blue creation. Her stylist, Tanya Ghavri, and many members of the Kapoor clan shared pictures from the ceremony on Instagram and created quite the buzz.

Khushi’s crop top and skirt set is from the shelves of ace-designer Anita Dongre’s label, and she channelled subtle spring vibes in the pretty ensemble.

Khushi’s pastel blue outfit featured a chic strappy blue printed crop top with a sheer white side sweep. The transparent cloth acted as a faux chunni and added an ethereal charm.

Khushi paired the crop top with a high-waist asymmetrically flared skirt adorned in floral stripes, which enhanced the elegant asymmetric fall. It was replete with a complete dusting of blue flower prints and side pockets.

Khushi wore the modern-ésque lehenga with a dainty chain, statement earrings and matching bracelets. She left her locks open in a middle parting and styled them in soft curls. For make-up, Khushi chose nude lips, glowing skin, and minimal make-up.

The Anita Dongre lehenga is available on the designer’s website for ₹95,000. It will be a perfect look for attending a spring wedding or even for the upcoming Rakhi celebrations. If you do decide to wear the ensemble, take cues from Khushi and choose minimal styling aesthetics.

Antara Motiwala Marwah is married to Mohit Marwah. The couple held a grand ‘Godh bharai’ ceremony on Wednesday, where Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Anshula Kapoor were in attendance.

How To Deal With An Angry Partner

Anger is a powerful emotion that can cause untold destruction if it continues unchecked. Just like a forest fire, which destroys towering trees, houses, and lives in its path, so it is with anger which gets out of control.

So if you are wondering how to control anger in a relationship or how to deal with an angry spouse, then read on.

Ways that can be helpful when you are dealing with an angry partner:

1. Do keep calm

Want to learn the secret of how to deal with an angry husband or how to deal with an angry wife? It’s simple – maintain your calm and composure.

Admittedly this may not be easy to do, especially when your angry spouse is lashing out at you, but the calmer you can remain, the quicker your partner will get over his or her outburst.

Keeping calm is a temporary strategy to use in the heat of the moment. Nothing good will be achieved if you are both screaming at each other.

Then when the partner has calmed down, you will be able to address the matter in a more constructive manner.

2. Do think about your own behavior

This is where you need to be brutally honest with yourself. Is there anything that you are doing or not doing, which provokes or worsens your partner’s anger?

The natural tendency of angry partners is to blame you or someone else for their outbursts, so you need to be very careful here not to absorb all the blame they so willingly offload.

Remember, you are responsible only for your own actions, not theirs. If you have something to apologize for or to make adjustments in your behavior, then do so and move on.

3. Don’t become co-dependent

Do you ever find yourself covering up for your angry partner?

If you are living with an angry husband and they have mouthed off and offended one of your friends or family members, do you quietly go to the person afterward and ‘explain’ why your partner didn’t really mean what they said and that they are really not that bad?

If you keep on doing this kind of thing, your partner will not be able to learn to take the full brunt of the consequences caused by their anger in marriage.

4. Do establish boundaries

When you have anger in relationships or have an angry partner, it is very important that you establish some firm boundaries. Dealing with anger starts by:

deciding how much of your partner’s anger you are willing to tolerate and what you will not allow, informing your partner accordingly and, being prepared to defend and maintain that boundary line.

Boundaries are a great way to deal with a negative spouse and recognizing that all relationships require mutual respect in order to flourish.

Remember, boundaries are not a selfish way of life; rather, boundaries build and preserve healthy relationships.

5. Do know when to walk away

If your angry partner acknowledges that they have a problem and they are willing to get help and work on their anger issues, then there is hope, like a light at the end of a dark tunnel.

However, if there is no acknowledgment of any wrongdoing or a superficial apology with no real change or effort to change, then you need to make some difficult decisions.

Ask yourself whether you can carry on indefinitely with no change, except perhaps a change for the worse as anger tends to intensify over time if not effectively dealt with. If your answer is no, then it may be time for you to walk away.

6. Don’t forget who you are

One of the grave dangers of having an angry partner is that you too become an angry person. After all, anger can be quite contagious. Always stay true to yourself and the person that you know you are.

Your partner’s anger is theirs to deal with – not yours to take on board. As you consistently and patiently express your emotions in a mature and healthy way, you will help your partner learn to do the same.

Ways To Avoid Boredom In Your Relationship

When you’ve been in a relationship for a long time, experts say it’s pretty common to feel a sense of boredom. In many cases, there’s really nothing to worry about. But if you’re wondering how to not get bored in a relationship, there are some pretty effective ways to prevent it, and keep things interesting as time goes by.

Determine What Boredom In A Relationship Really Looks Like For Each Partner

Everyone has their own idea of what’s boring to them. That’s why a 2013 study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that it’s important to clearly define what “boredom” in a relationship looks like to each partner. If it’s a lack of interest in your partner, which was the number one reason why people got bored, compatibility may be the issue. However, if it’s something like loss of excitement, fun, or surprises, that’s something couples can work on by integrating something new into their routine.

Try New Things Together

Couples who made it a point to try new things together were found to be the most satisfied in their relationships overall. Making the effort to do something together outside of your ordinary routine could prevent boredom in your relationship.

Do More Exciting Things Together

The researchers discovered that couples who did more exciting tasks were found to be much more satisfied in their relationship than those who didn’t. So it’s not just about trying new things, but being a little more adventurous as well.

Be Grateful For Each Other

According to researchers, showing gratitude for even the smallest things helps people feel loved and connected. When people feel connected to their partners, they’re less likely to get bored with the relationship.

“A simple habit to revive love and contribute to faithfulness is to offer three appreciations every day to your partner with heartfelt authenticity,” Tinker says.

Keep Kissing Each Other

A 2009 study presented at the American Association for the Advancement of Science found that kissing is important in helping a couples bond and ultimately stay together because kissing releases oxytocin, the “love hormone.”

Kissing also helps drop levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, so couples usually feel relaxed and at ease right after a good kiss. As the study found, the cortisol levels of couples in long-term relationships continued to drop the longer they were together. If you make it a point to keep kissing one another, your hormones will pretty much do the bonding work for you. It’s so simple yet effective.

Tony Bennett Retiring From Live Performances

Legendary singer Tony Bennett has stepped down from the stage as he is retiring from live performances, following his health issues.

The 95-year-old singer, who has been fighting Alzheimer’s disease since 2016, has finally said goodbye to the stage for live performances. The iconic singer’s son Danny Bennett recently announced the news in an interview with Variety that his father is officially retiring from live music and scrapping his 2021 tour dates.

“There won’t be any additional concerts. This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors’ orders,” Bennett’s son and manager Danny Bennett told Variety.
This was in reference to Tony’s fall tour dates which were originally rescheduled from 2020 due to the pandemic but were cancelled as his family hopes to prioritise his health.

“His continued health is the most important part of this, and when we heard the doctors — when Tony’s wife, Susan heard them — she said, ‘Absolutely not, he’ll be doing other things, but not those upcoming shows. It’s not the singing aspect but, rather, the travelling. Look, he gets tired,” Danny told Variety.

Danny further explained that the decision made by the family was not because they are worried about him being able to sing but “we are worried, from a physical standpoint… about human nature” as he is 95.

“They kept telling me that we lied, that there was no way Tony had Alzheimer’s, I assured everyone that he does. … Yes, here he was, at 95, and still singing like this: strong, Emotive. But still, it is a complex question: how can he do this?” Danny told Variety in reference to the fans’ response to the Grammy-winning singer’s last live concerts with Academy Award-winning singer Lady Gaga.

“My answer is that this is where he has lived his whole life and where he is most happy — on the stage, making music. Dealing as we have with Alzheimer’s for the last four-five years, it’s cognitive,” he added telling the outlet that despite his father has “short-term memory loss” he still does not use a “teleprompter”.

Danny continued, “Tony may not remember every part of doing that show. But, when he stepped to the side of the stage, the first thing he told me was: ‘I love being a singer.'”

Tony Bennett is a singer known for his works in traditional pop standards, big bands, show tunes, and jazz. He is also a painter, having created works under his birth name that are on permanent public display in several institutions.

Tony has released over 70 albums during his career, almost all for Columbia Records. He has also charted over 30 singles during his career, with his biggest hits all occurring during the early 1950s.

On August 12, 2021, a few days after his 95th birthday, Tony’s retirement from concert performances was announced by his son and manager Danny Bennett.

Danny stated that “though Bennett remained a capable singer, he was becoming physically frail and risked a major fall if he continued touring.”

In October, she was scheduled to perform both weekends at Austin City Limits. Opening up about her decision, Nicks said: “These are challenging times with challenging decisions that have to be made. I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising Covid cases should be of concern to all of us. While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the 5 performances I had planned for 2021.”

The 73-year-old does not want people to neglect their health.

“Because singing and performing have been my whole life, my primary goal is to keep healthy so I can continue singing for the next decade or longer,” Nicks’ statement said. “I’m devastated and I know the fans are disappointed, but we will look towards a brighter 2022,” she added.

After Nick’s decision, several festivals announce replacement acts. Singer Chris Stapleton will take Nicks’ place at BottleRock.

Climate Change : UK’s COP26 head warns of global ‘catastrophe’ unless measures taken

London [UK]: The UK president of the COP26 Climate Change Conference, Alok Sharma, has warned that the world was on the brink of a “catastrophe” from climate breakdown, calling for urgent actions.

The remark, made in an interview with The Observer, came ahead of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world’s leading authority on climate science, set to be released on Monday. The paper on how close the world is to a potentially irreversible disaster due to extreme weather will be “the starkest warning yet that human behaviour is alarmingly accelerating global warming,” the official said.
“I don’t think we’re out of time but I think we’re getting dangerously close to when we might be out of time. We will see [from the IPCC] a very, very clear warning that unless we act now, we will unfortunately be out of time,” Sharma said late on Saturday, noting the consequences of failure would be “catastrophic.”

The UK minister in charge of the flagman UN climate talks noted that the impact of global warming was already evident across the world, citing deadly flooding in Europe and China, as well as wildfires and record high temperatures registered in parts of the world.

“I don’t think there’s any other word for it. You’re seeing on a daily basis what is happening across the world. Last year was the hottest on record, the last decade the hottest decade on record,” Sharma added.

Commenting on the upcoming reports, the official said that the paper would urge the international community — governments, businesses and individuals — to push for stronger action on greenhouse gas emissions at the COP26. (ANI/Sputnik)

Akshay Kumar has released the first song of his upcoming movie ‘BellBottom’. Titled Marjaawaan, it is a romantic song also featuring Vaani Kapoor.

Marjaawaan begins with Akshay Kumar singing a song and strumming a guitar at a family event. Vaani smiles looking at him as others around them swing to the music. The video then moves to a picturesque train journey with Akshay hanging from the door. Vaani gives him a hug, still smiling at his antics.

They dance in foreign locations, chill by some beaches with a husky joining them for drinks. They propose to each other with rings and take their romance to a special bed suspended over a lake.

Fans of the two actors were excited to watch them together. “Akshay sir and Vaani Kapoor looking astonishing together,” wrote a fan on YouTube. “Akshay and Vaani looking like a cute pair,” wrote another.

Sharing the video on Twitter, Akshay wrote, “My favourite song, #Marjaawaan from #BellBottom out now! This tune has been stuck in my head ever since the shoot.” The song has been sung by Gurnazar and Asees Kaur.

BellBottom is an espionage thriller starring Akshay as a research and analysis wing (RAW) agent. Lara Dutta plays former Indian Prime Minsiter Indira Gandhi and the film is set for theatrical release in both 2D and 3D formats on August 19.

Taylor Swift Hints Fans With Clues To New ‘Red’ Album Songs

American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift recently shared a social media post that hinted she will apparently be bringing in Phoebe Bridgers as a guest for her upcoming rerecording of ‘Red’ (Taylor’s Version).

The three-time album of the year Grammy winner released a special “vault video” on Twitter, containing a hidden message about the album for her fans. It suggested that she’ll soon be announcing the names of new “from the vault” tracks from the upcoming rerecording of her fourth studio album, 2012’s ‘Red’, which is slated for a November 19 release.

The video showed a vault, coloured in red, with music playing in the background, and a jumble of letters flying on the screen, towards the viewers. The word puzzle featured the names of bonus tracks to be included on ‘Red’ (Taylor’s Version) as well as possible collaborators on the album.

Swift chose this same method when hinting at what was coming on her re-recorded album ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’, which arrived in April.

Swifties were quick to discover the words ‘Phoebe Bridgers’ hidden in the message, plus ‘Better Man’, a song Swift originally wrote for ‘Red’ but later gave to Little Big Town to record. Swift performed it live at the Bluebird Cafe in 2018 as part of Bluebird, a documentary film tribute to the Nashville venue where she was discovered.

Ed Sheeran, who recorded ‘Everything Has Changed’ with Swift on the original ‘Red’ and country singer Chris Stapleton, were also found in the word search, implying that Swift will be collaborating with both for the new album. Sheeran recently said in an interview he’d re-recorded his duet part, as well as hinting at other recordings.

Also in the puzzle was ‘Ronan’, a heart-wrenching track Swift wrote in the ‘Red’ era that was inspired by four-year-old Ronan Thompson’s fatal battle with cancer. Reportedly, Swift only performed it once at the 2012 Stand Up to Cancer telethon, but Billboard reported last week that a re-recorded ‘Ronan’ will be appearing on ‘Red’ (Taylor’s Version) with permission from Ronan’s mother, Maya Thompson.

Lastly, ‘All Too Well’, ‘Ten’, ‘Minute’ and ‘Version’ were also in the search, confirming that the long-awaited 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’ will be featured on the re-recording.

There were a few other words here and there in the puzzle that form up the names of new song titles. The unscrambled list of newly recorded ‘Vault’ tracks being added to the original ‘Red’ will be as follows:
– ‘Ronan’
– ‘Better Man’
– ‘Nothing New’, featuring Phoebe Bridgers
– ‘Babe’
– ‘Message in a Bottle’
– ‘I Bet You Think About Me’, featuring Chris Stapleton
– ‘Forever Winter’
– ‘Run’, featuring Ed Sheeran
– ‘The Very First Night’
– ‘All Too Well’ 10-minute version
Along with the video, she tweeted, “*presses post* *cackles maniacally* Level: casually cruel in the name of being honest,” referencing lyrics to her objectively finest masterpiece, ‘All Too Well’.

She later followed up with a subsequent tweet, writing, “Your next clue will be in the spot where you hear red…”

The singer, then again, tweeted, “Love is a ruthless game #iunlockedthevault,” with a sunglasses emoji. As fans might know, the line is from 2012 ‘Red’ opener ‘State of Grace’.

As per USA Today, Swift is re-recording her music after a public battle with music executive Scooter Braun, who had purchased her recordings before selling them for millions in November 2020.
By re-recording her music, she will be gaining ownership over the earlier songs that launched her career, albeit with a more sophisticated, mature twist.

Miley Cirus Invites DaBaby To Talk Amid Homophobic Remarks Controversy

Joining a growing chorus of celebrities this week in speaking out against DaBaby’s homophobic remarks, singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus invited the rapper to have an open dialogue with her on the subject.

In a statement posted on her Instagram handle, Miley spoke out against cancel culture and in the caption wrote, “@DaBaby check your DMS — would love to talk and see how we can learn from each other and help be part of making a more just and understanding future!” In her social media statement, Miley wrote, “As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness. The internet can fuel a lot of hate and anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture… but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication and connection.”

The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer, in her statement, further said, “It’s easier to cancel someone than to find forgiveness and compassion in ourselves or take the time to change hearts and minds. There’s no more room for division if we want to keep seeing progress! Knowledge is power! I know I still have so much to learn.”

During DaBaby’s recent Rolling Loud performance on June 25, the rapper had encouraged the audience to put their cell phone flashlights in the air if they “didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks,” among further derogatory remarks about HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ people.

After receiving social media backlash, DaBaby was pulled from his brand ambassador deal with Boohoo Man. His ‘Levitating’ collaborator, Dua Lipa, also spoke out against him, along with other big names including Elton John, Madonna and others.

Just three days after the incident, DaBaby released a video for his new song, ‘Giving What It’s Supposed To Give’, which featured the lyrics, ‘We like AIDS… we on your ass, bitch, we won’t go away’.

The day of his scheduled Sunday performance at Lollapalooza, the festival announced in a tweet that DaBaby would no longer be performing. “Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love. With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight,” the statement read.
He has also been dropped from other festivals, including Austin City Limits, Governor’s Ball, Day N Vegas, iHeartRadio Music Festival, Can’t Wait Live!, Music Midtown and Parklife Festival.

In an initial apology that came across as insincere to several fans, DaBaby admitted on Twitter that his remarks were “insensitive” but suggested that the comments had been “digested” wrong in another tweet. The rapper followed up with statements like “Apologies for being me.”

Once again on August 2, DaBaby offered another apology on Instagram, writing, “Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes. As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging.”

Expressing gratitude towards the people, who reached out to him, he added, “I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”

DaBaby is no stranger to controversy, having to backtrack some questionable lyrics about JoJo Siwa earlier this year.

He also came under fire from Megan Thee Stallion recently, following his collaboration with Tory Lanez, who allegedly shot her in the feet last summer. Lanez joined DaBaby at Rolling Loud to perform their track ‘SKAT’ immediately after Megan hit the stage.

Justin Bieber Apologizes For Endorsing Morgan Wallen’s Music

Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Bieber, on Wednesday, shared a social media apology for his endorsement of country music star Morgan Wallen’s song, six months after a video was leaked of Wallen drunkenly using the N-word with his friends.

In a now-deleted post, Bieber had shared a screenshot of Wallen’s ‘Sand In My Boots’ from ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’, writing “Love this album”, alongside it. Not long after, the ‘Sorry’ singer deleted the post and penned an apology on his Instagram Stories. Apologising to the people he unknowingly hurt due to the incident, Bieber wrote, “I had no idea that the guy’s music i posted was recently found saying racist comments. As you know i dont support or tolerate any sort of racism or discrimination. I had no idea, I sincerely apologize to anyone i offended.”

The ‘Peaches’ singer nodded to his own past with the slur by adding, “When I was a kid, I was incredibly ignorant and said some very hurtful racist jokes that clearly were not funny. I hurt a lot of people especially the Black people in my life but was fortunate enough to have had them educate me on the horrifying origin of the n-word. This brings those painful memories back up; I will always take ownership for my ignorance and my past because I know I am not that person.”

In March, Bieber had revealed that he doesn’t own a cellphone and instead opts to use an iPad. Hence it’s at least somewhat plausible that he missed the controversy surrounding the country star.
Wallen was on ‘Good Morning America’ in July talking about the incident but seems like Bieber is not the target audience for that show.

In February, Wallen faced enormous social media backlash after TMZ published a video of him telling a friend to “take care of this p–y-ass n–a” when they returned home from a night out in Nashville.
He immediately issued an apology, saying he was “embarrassed and sorry,” but months later, he revealed it wasn’t the first time he’s used the word.

As per Fox News, Big Loud, Wallen’s record label suspended him in February but has since reinstated him. Either way, the controversy hasn’t dented his album sales. Wallen’s ‘Dangerous’ album has been No. 1 on the Billboard country album chart for 26 weeks.

Selena Gomez Slams ‘The Good Fight’ Makers For Mocking Her Kidney Transplant

Actor-singer Selena Gomez has slammed the makers of ‘The Good Fight’ for making fun of her kidney transplant on the show.

“I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently. I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air,” Gomez tweeted on Wednesday. The ‘Feel me’ hitmaker’s tweet comes days after her fans pointed out a scene on the ongoing show ‘The Good Fight’ where makers allegedly made a joke about the former’s kidney transplant, which she received in 2017 amid her battle with lupus, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

After seeing her fans criticising the particular episode, Gomez thanked them for their support.
“My fans always have my back. Love you,” she added, along with dropping a link to sign up to be an organ donor.

Mocking Gomez’s health conditions has not happened for the first time. Peacock’s ‘Saved by the Bell’ reboot was criticised for the same offense late last year. In response, Peacock apologised for making light of Gomez’s health struggles, in addition to making a donation to The Selena Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.

Pete Parada Asked To Leave Band For Not Getting Vaccinated

Pete Parada, the drummer for The Offspring, recently revealed that he was asked to leave the band over his refusal to receive a coronavirus vaccine.

Pete in his Instagram post claimed that he’s been told not to show up at the studio, either, even though he comes up with a legitimate medical reason for not getting the jab. In the drummer’s introductory remarks on Instagram, he wrote, “I’ve got some unfortunate and difficult news to share. I know many of my close friends and family would’ve preferred to hear this privately first — and I apologize for the public nature of my disclosure, but I don’t know how to have this conversation multiple times.

“Given my personal medical history and the side-effect profile of these jabs, my doctor has advised me not to get a shot at this time. I caught the virus over a year ago, it was mild for me — so I am confident I’d be able to handle it again, but I’m not so certain I’d survive another post-vaccination round of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which dates back to my childhood and has evolved to be progressively worse over my lifetime. Unfortunately for me, (and my family — who is hoping to keep me around a bit longer) the risks far outweigh the benefits,” he wrote.

Revealing how that affects his status in the band, Pete explained: “Since I am unable to comply with what is increasingly becoming an industry mandate — it has recently been decided that I am unsafe to be around, in the studio, and on tour. I mention this because you won’t be seeing me at these upcoming shows.”

After updating his fans about the issue, Pete also said that he has no hard feelings for his other bandmates and he has not posted out of anger.

“I have no negative feelings towards my band,” he wrote. “They’re doing what they believe is best for them, while I am doing the same. Wishing the entire Offspring family all the best as they get back at it! I’m heartbroken not to be seeing my road community, and I will miss connecting with the fans more than I can express in words,” he added.

Pete was the band’s second longest running drummer in the group’s 37-year career, having replaced Atom Williard in 2009.

How Lack Of Ambition Can Negatively Impact Your Relationship

Not for nothing is it said that it is only by living with and understanding a person that can help build a strong relationship. very often we do not have that luxury of living with the person we want to pursue a relationship with, but when we do, one aspect that is oft ignored is ambition. Ambition in a relationship is essential as it keeps things exciting and lively between the couple.

Being ambitious is important in life as well, as it is the goal and ambition that makes one work hard towards a better life. Being ambitious about a career choice, a relationship, or even a hobby can bring about so much personality.

Here are some ways in which lack of ambition can have negative impact on your relationship:-

Makes prioritizing Difficult

In a relationship, if one partner is ambitious and the other is laid back, then prioritizing goals can be a challenging task. One will always want to upgrade, while the other will prefer sticking to the obvious. A lot of times, if not always, being on the same page is important for the growth of a relationship. A shift in priority can take place when people have differing ambition levels.

Gets You Stuck On The Mundane

Everybody likes an upgrade in their lifestyles. Being ambitious makes a person strive every day and make the best of their opportunities. Lack of ambition can make a person so comfortable with their current lifestyle that it becomes mundane and even boring. If a partner lacks ambition in their relationship, they will stop making an effort to impress their partner, either emotionally or even professionally.

Leads To Incompatibility

Having differences in a relationship regarding goals and ambitions can cause arguments to arise. It can be a sign that your partner and you disagree on things that might seem important to you but are not treated in the same way by your partner and vice versa. This could be a sign of alarming incompatibility. In the long run, even the small arguments regarding incompatibility can cause a rift in the relationship.

Creates Lack Of Adventure

When a relationship lacks ambition, the adventure or the high automatically dies down. Partners can stop taking the initiative to bring nuances to the relationship, and eventually, it just becomes plain and boring. That is not something people often expect and look for in a relationship. Instead, take turns in spicing up your relationship in ways you both deem fit. Try new activities, hobbies, and discuss a lot — that often gives you a deeper understanding of your partner.

Kills Motivation

Often, being around someone who lacks ambition can bring you down too. It can kill your productivity and your will to thrive for more and better. Being in command can be challenging in such situations, and staying motivated can seem like a task. This could lead to resenting your partner and holding grudges. Don’t let that kill the ambition of your life, instead, work your way around the same and get to the solution.

Sonam Kapoor Gets Emotional On Reuniting With Anil Kapoor: Watch Video

Sonam Kapoor returned to Mumbai from London on Tuesday, and her father Anil Kapoor came to the airport to receive her. She got emotional as she reunited with him after several months.

In a video shared online by a paparazzo account, Sonam Kapoor was seen waving to the photographers as she walked out of the airport terminal. She then saw Anil Kapoor and greeted him with, “Hi, dad.” She then broke down as they walked to their car.

Sonam has been living in London with her husband Anand Ahuja for a while now. She spent the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic in Delhi and Mumbai, and returned to London in July last year. Earlier this year, she shot for her upcoming thriller, Blind, in Scotland.

In April, Sonam posted a photo with Anand from London and talked about how she has been ‘desperately’ craving to return to India.

Meanwhile, Anil, in a recent interview said, “Like every parent everywhere, Sunita (my wife) and I miss our kids when they are away, and we worry about them constantly. But we also recognize that we’re fortunate to live in the age of technology that enables us to see them and speak with them whenever we get anxious, and that’s been a huge relief.”

Sonam was seen in a cameo in AK vs AK, starring Anil and Anurag Kashyap in the lead roles. She played a fictionalised version of herself in the film, which also featured her brother Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor in a guest appearance. Previously, Sonam and Anil starred together in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.

Meanwhile, Sonam will be seen next in Blind, a remake of a Korean crime-thriller. In an Instagram post earlier this year, she called it an ‘insanely hard but creatively satisfying film’. The film is directed by Shome Makhija.

In recent weeks, we have filmed a few advertisements in old Delhi, but no major projects have been shot here. Line producers say that as the number of cases go down, shooting is expected to resume in full swing in NCR.”

“Currently, due to decrease in number of cases, permission is not a big issue, as long as the crew is limited to 20-30 people. Two other major projects are also scheduled for month end,” informs an insider.

Elon Musk: Tesla Would Have Died, If I Wasn’t The CEO

Tesla would have died, if he wasn’t the CEO – this is what famous EV company boss Elon Musk told to a court defending his position in the Tesla-SolarCity deal.

Musk also insisted in court that the company is controlled by the board, not himself. The lawsuit filed by the union pension funds and asset managers alleges that Elon Musk strong-armed Tesla’s board of directors into depleting the company’s assets with the $2.6 billion all-stock deal for the SolarCity.

During the deal with SolarCity, Elon Musk owned a roughly 22% stake in Tesla. This means he had no controlling stake in the EV manufacturer. Some Tesla shareholders alleged that the SolarCity deal was aimed at bailing out the company, where Musk had an investment.

The Tesla shareholders claimed in the lawsuit that the money invested in SolarCity must be paid back. Tesla shareholders accused Elon Musk of dominating the EV maker’s board with deal discussions. They alleged that Musk influenced Tesla’s board to buy SolarCity despite it being a weak deal for the company.

This lawsuit kicked off a two-week trial in Wilmington, Delaware. Elon Musk had to appear before the court for the case.

Appearing before the judge Musk said that he has tried very hard not to be the CEO of Tesla. “But I have to or frankly Tesla is going to die,” Musk further said to Judge, reports Reuters. Other Tesla board members and people involved in the Tesla-SolarCity deal will testify on Tuesday. Musk too will return to the witness stand.

Single Dose Of Sputnik-V Vaccine Enough For Recovered Covid-19 Patients: Study

A day after scientists announced that mRNA vaccines are effective against the Delta variant of Covid-19, a single dose variant of Russia’s Sputnik-V vaccine has shown 94 per cent efficacy among those recovered Covid-19 patients. Scientists said that there is no evident benefit of using a second dose in previously infected individuals.

However, they added, “the second dose further increases antibody and neutralizing capacity.”

The study published in the journal Science Direct states that 21 days after receiving the first dose of vaccine, 94 per cent of participants developed spike-specific antibodies. The study was conducted among healthcare workers in Argentina.

“A single Sputnik V dose elicits higher antibody levels and virus neutralizing capacity in previously infected individuals than in new ones receiving the full two-doses,” researchers said.

Earlier, a study by Hyderabad’s AIG Hospitals had also claimed that a single dose of vaccine is sufficient for Covid-recovered patients on account of their robust antibody response. The study was conducted on 260 healthcare workers who got the Covishield vaccine between January 16 and February 5.

Developers of Sputnik V had in June claimed that the vaccine is around 90 per cent effective against the highly contagious Delta variant. Denis Logunov, deputy director of Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute, which developed Sputnik V, said the Delta variant efficacy figure was calculated based on digital medical and vaccine records, the RIA news agency reported.

Sputnik V is the third vaccine to be used in India’s massive vaccination drive after homegrown Covishield by the Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. While Sputnik Light was approved for emergency use in Russia in May, with an efficacy rate of 79.4 per cent, discussions on granting it emergency use approval in India are currently on.

The vaccine uses the SARS-CoV-2’s genetic instructions to build the spike protein and stores the information in the double-stranded DNA. The vaccine has been developed from adenoviruses, a kind of virus that causes colds. Researchers added the gene for Covid spike protein to two adenoviruses, engineering them to invade affected cells. The Sputnik-V derives inspiration from the adenovirus used to create a vaccine for Ebola by Johnson & Johnson.

Cryptocurrency Prices Today: Bitcoin In Red; Ether, Dogecoin Retreat 5%

Cryptocurrency prices continue to be in the red on July 13. The global cryptocurrency market cap is $1.37 trillion, a 3.05 percent decrease over the last day, while the total crypto market volume over the last 24 hours is $62.75 billion, which makes an 18.86 percent increase.

The volume of all stable coins is now $47.54 billion – 75.76 percent of the total crypto market 24-hour volume. Bitcoin’s price is currently $34,150.06 and its dominance is currently 45.45 percent, an increase of 0.09 percent over the day.

This comes after trading volumes at major cryptocurrency exchanges fell by more than 40 percent in June, research showed on July 12, with a regulatory crackdown in China and lower volatility among the factors depressing activity.

Spot trading volumes fell 42.7 percent to $2.7 trillion, with derivative volumes down 40.7 percent to $3.2 trillion, London-based researcher CryptoCompare’s data showed.

“Headwinds continued as China persisted with its crackdown on bitcoin mining,” CryptoCompare said. “As a result of both lower prices and volatility, spot volumes decreased.”

E-way Bill Generation Shows Pick Up In Economic Recovery

E-way bill generation for goods transportation has gathered pace in July, indicating a graded pick-up in economic recovery, as the impact of the second Covid wave wanes. In the first 11 days of July, the average daily e-way bill generation stood at 19.24 lakh, 5.6% higher than the average for June and 49% higher than the May-level.

Between July 1 and 11, as many as 2.12 crore e-way bills were generated. Higher e-way bill generation will reflect in goods and service tax (GST) revenues.

Gross GST collections, after remaining above the Rs 1-lakh-crore mark for eight months in a row, came in at Rs 92,849 crore in June (May transactions), reflecting the blow to the economy from a localized lockdown.

Thanks to the reduction in Covid-19 cases and easing of the lockdowns, e-way bills generation by businesses rose to 5.5 crore in June, from 3.99 crore in May, indicating a smart recovery of trade and business. About 5.9 crore e-way bills were generated in April.

With the impact of the second Covid wave waning and vaccination drive making progress, some parts of the economy are expected to look up from July.

In recent months, the government’s GST revenue has been robust, thanks to steps taken to curb evasion, increased compliance and also a shift of business away from the informal sector. A nascent economic recovery that appears to have been quickly disrupted by the pandemic’s second surge, also helped.

Boris Johnson: All Covid-19 Restrictions To End In UK On July 19

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday (local time) confirmed that all virus restrictions in England will end on July 19.

Johnson told reporters that the move will eliminate mandates to wear masks in public places, social distancing rules, and work-from-home recommendations reported NHK World.

Johnson noted that vaccines help to prevent people with the coronavirus from developing serious symptoms.

He insisted that, while hospitalizations and deaths will continue to rise, they will likely be much lower than during the peak of the outbreak last autumn, reported NHK World.

He said, “we cannot simply revert instantly from Monday, July 19 to life as it was before COVID.”

Meanwhile, officials said the government recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded indoor areas. Some experts warned that eliminating restrictions when the virus is spreading will be risky, reported NHK World.

Britain has seen its daily case count top 30,000 in recent days, amid the spread of the Delta variant.

Johnson urged people to act with caution and personal responsibility, saying, “this pandemic is not over.”

Pakistan’s Private Schools Association Launches Documentary On Malala Yousafzai

Pakistan’s private schools’ association on Monday launched a documentary on Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai for her controversial views on Islam, marriage and her pursuit of the Western agenda.

Malala, who turned 24 on Monday, was the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. Having received the prize at the age of 17, Malala is the youngest Nobel laureate. She shared the prize with Kailash Satyarthi, a children’s rights activist from India.

Addressing a press conference at his office in Gulberg here the All-Pakistan Private Schools Federation president Kashif Mirza said: “Through this documentary film — I am not Malala – we will tell 20 million students in 200,000 private schools across the country about her controversial views on Islam, marriage, pursuing of Western agenda.”

“The idea behind this is we want to expose Malala among the youth as it does not get impressed by her so-called story of struggle for women rights,” Mirza said.

He said Malala had advocated “partnership” that is adultery in Islam.

“Marriage is a sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh) and partnership is adultery,” he said.

‘I am not Malala’s Day’ is also observed on July 12 in private schools as lectures and seminars are held to expose her western agenda to students.

Mirza said Malala has categorically rejected the institution of marriage and suggested that ‘partnership’ is better than getting married.

“Malala has attacked the institution of marriage and family structure by advocating that people should live in sin…No one can justify Muslims living together without marriage as it is strongly condemned in Islam,” he said.

Similarly, Mirza said in her book “I am Malala”, the Nobel Peace winner book has highly controversial material in it which is contrary to the teachings of Islam, Quranic injunctions, ideology of Islam and Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah and the Pakistan Army.

“This book is written at the behest of western forces that used Malala for their ulterior motives. Malala has declared Islam and Pak army as ‘militant’ in her controversial book. She also criticised Quranic verses about two women’s testimony to be equal to that of a man and also about the four witnesses in rape case,” he said.

Mirza said a group photo with writer Tasleema Nasreen and strong ties with an Indian for Nobel award are enough to explain Malala’s designs.

Mirza alleged her blog in BBC under the name “Gul Makai” was written by someone else as she could not even read or write by then.

“Malala’s father Ziauddin had admitted in a TV programme that her blog was written by BBC correspondent Abdul Hai Kakar and the book ‘I am Malala’ was written by Christina Lamb,” he said.
