Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United in January transfer window

Manchester [UK]: Manchester United forward Anthony Martial wants to leave the Premier League club in the January transfer window.
Martial’s agent revealed on Friday that the French international will seek regular game time at a different club after being neglected by the Red Devils. Philippe Lamboley, executive director of USFA management, told Sky Sports News: “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.
“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”
The 26-year-old has started only twice in the Premier League this season and has made five more appearances from the bench. He also made two appearances in the Champions League group stage, starting only in the match against Villarreal.
The French international joined United from Monaco in September 2015, becoming the most expensive teenager in world football at the time.
Martial does still have three years left to run on his current contract, which he signed in 2019 and that includes an option to extend for a further year.

Manchester United on November 21 announced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had left his role as manager. Currently, Michael Carrick will remain in charge of the first team until Ralf’s work visa is finalised.

Lionel Messi believes Man United can turn its fortunes around

Manchester United celebrating

Paris [France]: Argentine and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Lionel Messi believes Manchester United can still turn its fortunes around in the Premier League.
United is currently in the eighth spot in Premier League standings and the club recently sacked its manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Red Devils lost against Watford. “United is a very strong team with great players. The Premier League is a very difficult competition and an equal one, and things can turn around many times,” Messi told Marca, as reported by Goal.com.
“After December, a lot changes and anything can happen,” he added.
Talking about Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, Messi said: “Cristiano already knew the club but that was at a different stage and now he has adapted in an impressive manner.”
“From the start, he has scored goals as he always does and had no problems adapting,” he added.
The Argentine striker also said that it was beautiful when he played alongside Ronaldo in La Liga.
“Time has passed since we competed in the same league. We not only competed on an individual level but also on a team level for the same aims,” said Messi.
“It was a very beautiful stage for us and for people because they enjoyed it very much. It’s a beautiful memory that will remain in football history,” he added.

Good luck, my friend! You deserve it, says Ronaldo to departing Solskjaer

Manchester [UK]: Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo shared his emotions after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left his role as the manager of the Red Devils on Sunday. This decision came after Manchester United suffered a 1-4 defeat at the hands of Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Taking to Twitter, the Portugal captain wrote, “He’s been my striker when I first came to Old Trafford and he’s been my coach since I came back to Man. United. But most of all, Ole is an outstanding human being. I wish him the best in whatever his life has reserved for him. Good luck, my friend! You deserve it!” Earlier, Manchester United stated in an official statement, “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.”
“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family,” it added.
Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

Manchester City dished out a dominant performance as an Eric Bailly own goal and a Bernardo Silva strike earned the champions their first Manchester derby victory in five Premier League attempts over their local rivals at Old Trafford on Saturday. “I have good communication with the club. I want the best for United and as long as I’m here I want to do everything I can to improve this. We’ve been through this a few times and since the last home game, it’s been a very difficult period. Systems or style we need to be on the front foot more. I can’t look at myself and say this is how I want United to be,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports, as reported by Goal.com.
“Can I turn United’s season around? Definitely. And you’re right, back to where we should be, for me it’s about back to what we started to look like, we started to look a proper team, we started to look like a team I like to see. We’ve had three or four weeks now of a disappointing spell,” he added.
City went ahead on seven minutes when Bailly diverted Joao Cancelo’s cross into his own net. Cancelo earned his second assist with a cross which was turned in by Bernardo at the far post behind a hesitant Luke Shaw.
The hosts improved in the second half but also lost Shaw to a head injury. City, who move second with 23 points, almost scored again late on as Phil Foden clipped a post. A fourth consecutive home match without a win keeps United in fifth with 17 points.

Ronaldo’s comments came after Manchester United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Saturday in the Premier League. “The criticisms are always there. For me, it doesn’t bother me because I have played 18 years of football, so I know that one day people will say we are perfect and another day they will say we are crap. I know that and we have to deal with that, but it’s always better when the people praise you and they are happy with you,” Manchester United’s official website quoted Ronaldo as saying.
“Sometimes life is like that, sometimes we have to pass through bad moments and we have to change and we changed today. The team was a little bit under pressure, a little bit sad, but we knew that today we could give a good answer. We played good, we started the game very well. Of course my job is to help the team with my experience, my goals, my assists and I did that today and I feel so pleased with that. That gap of more than 13 years between Player of the Month prizes is the longest in Premier League history.
Ronaldo enjoyed a dream first appearance on his return to the club, scoring two goals in the 4-1 home victory over Newcastle United.
He also netted the opening goal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team came from behind to win 2-1 at West Ham United.
The Man Utd forward topped a six-man shortlist that also included Joao Cancelo, Antonio Rudiger, Allan Saint-Maximin, Mohamed Salah and Ismaila Sarr.

Ronaldo equals Champions League appearance record in Man United 2-1 defeat to Young Boys

Bern [Switzerland]: Cristiano Ronaldo has chalked up yet another UEFA Champions League record after making his 177th appearance as Manchester United took on BSC Young Boys in Switzerland on Tuesday, the start of his 19th season in the competition.
The forward’s return to the competition for Manchester United brought another milestone as he matched the mark of Iker Casillas for making most appearances in the Champions League. Xavi Hernandez with 151 appearances is on the third while another Barcelona legend, Lionel Messi is on fourth with 149 matches under his belt. On the pitch, United’s no.7 and co however had a horror night in Bern as BSC Young Boys defeated United 2-1 in their UEFA Champions League opener. Ronaldo marked his record-equalling match with the opener in the early stages at the Wankdorf Stadium, latching onto Bruno Fernandes’ ball on 13 minutes to open his account in this season’s competition, but unfortunately, it was not part of a winning effort by the Reds in Switzerland, following the home side’s two second-half strikes.
The appearance tally, which excludes Ronaldo’s four matches played in qualifying rounds, sees him go level with current record-holder and three-time tournament winner Iker Casillas. The former Real Madrid and Porto goalkeeper has retired since setting the bar at 177 during the Portuguese side’s 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool at the quarter-final stage of the 2018/19 competition.
Ronaldo currently holds the records for the player with the most goals (135) and assists (42) in the tournament’s history, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi in both categories. Seventeen of those goals came in the campaign in which he lifted the trophy for Real Madrid back in 2013/14, a figure that saw him named the competition’s top scorer for that season and it remains the most scored by any player in a single Champions League campaign.
The 36-year-old has also scored the most goals in the knockout stage of the competition (67), while he is the only player to net in all six group games in a season, and in three different finals. The five-time winner, the most by any player, will be hoping to inspire the Reds to more success on the European stage this season, following his return to the club in the summer.

Ronaldo is ‘greatest player of all time,’ says Neville

Former Manchester United stalwart Gary Neville has termed Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time with the ex-right-back giving his former Old Trafford colleague the edge over rival Lionel Messi.

Manchester [UK], September 14 : The former Red Devils defender was quick to hail his ex-teammate as the finest to ever play the game, though fellow pundit Jamie Carragher disagreed. The Portuguese cemented a dream homecoming to the Theatre of Dreams this weekend with a brace on his second debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in a 4-1 Premier League win over Newcastle.
Neville has hailed his ex-teammate as the finest pointing to his superior flexibility as a goalscorer as the crucial edge he possesses over Paris Saint-Germain attacker Messi.
“Look, there’s no doubt that Messi’s scored an obscene amount of goals,” Neville told Sky Sports ahead of Everton and Burnley’s Premier League game on Monday, as reported by goal.com.
“[But] Ronaldo’s scored probably 30 or 40 per cent more with his wrong foot and he’s scored more penalties. So it just took me to a point where he was more complete in terms of the most important part of the game.
“The thing that tips it over the edge even more is that international record, of the most international goals ever. The fact that he’s won five Champions Leagues with teams that aren’t even as good as Messi’s team…”
“Messi’s won more league titles with that Barcelona team, but I just feel that the international goal record and the Champions Leagues, aligned with the variety of goals that he scores, even though they’re very similar [in overall numbers], takes me to think that he is the greatest player of all time.”
Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher was quick to shoot down Neville’s suggestion, however, with the former Liverpool man stating that he could not look past Messi, owing to the Argentine’s skilled game management.
“No one’s not a huge fan of Ronaldo or Messi, [but] Ronaldo’s not the greatest player of all-time,” the Reds legend stated. “I’m going to say that it’s his mate here.”
“You’re talking about the difference of type of goals. It doesn’t matter how the ball goes in the net. Messi’s got a better goal record than Ronaldo. Messi can also run a game; Ronaldo cannot do that.
“Messi as a player can take you to a place where you can’t actually believe what you’re seeing. What Ronaldo does is things that other players can do. Messi can do things that you’ve never seen before.”
Both Ronaldo and Messi will have the chance to further increase their stake for the subjective honour of the world’s greatest player when they get back to Champions League action this week.
The pair will be contesting for Europe’s biggest club crown with United and PSG as this year’s tournament gets under way with the group stage this week.
United will kick off their campaign against Young Boys, while PSG will travel to Club Brugge.

Old Trafford has always been magical place for me, says Ronaldo

Manchester [UK]: After impressing one and all on his second Manchester United debut, Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Old Trafford has always been a magical place for him and there is a reason why it is called ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
“My return to Old Trafford was just a brief reminder of why this stadium is known as the Theater of Dreams. For me, it has always been a magical place where you can achieve everything you set your mind into,” Ronaldo wrote in an Instagram post. “Along with all my teammates and with the amazing support that we always get from the stands, we face the road ahead with confidence and optimism that we’ll all be celebrating together in the end,” he added.
Further in his post, Ronaldo said: “Proud to be back at Man. United and playing in the Premier League once again, but above all, happy to help the team! Let’s go, Devils.”
Ronaldo scored twice on his Manchester United return as they defeated Newcastle United by 4-1 in Saturday’s Premier League match. United as of now are at the top of the table in the league, as their unbeaten start to the season continued at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba assisted Bruno Fernandes and substitute Jesse Lingard for the other two goals of United.
The 36-year-old forward scored just before the half-time whistle from very close-range before Newcastle pegged United back in the second half through Manquillo’s goal. Visitors were only level for six minutes though before Ronaldo got his second, hitting the shot through Woodman’s legs.
Fernandes fired in a third from the edge of the D before Lingard wrapped things up in stoppage time after coming off the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo set for second Manchester United debut against Newcastle today

Manchester [UK]: Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will have a role to play in the Premier League match against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Portuguese will definitely make his second debut for the club, the United boss confirmed at a press conference on Friday. Ronaldo has been training with his new teammates for the first time this week as the team prepares to welcome Steve Bruce’s side to Old Trafford at the weekend. “He’s been having a good preseason with Juventus, he’s played for the national team, he’s had a good week with us here. He’ll definitely be on the pitch at some point, that’s for sure,” Ole said as per manutd.com.
Ronaldo has been in terrific form recently, as last week he scored his 110th international goal during the World Cup qualifying match against Ireland to surpass Iran legend Ali Daie’s tally in the all-time men’s scoring record. He first netted a goal in the dying minutes of the match to save the game and then fired another in the stoppage time as Portugal defeated Ireland 2-1 in the World Cup. With that goal, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now scored 111 international goals and is now leading the charts.
In the press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also praised Edinson Cavani for his role in Cristiano Ronaldo re-taking the iconic no.7 shirt at Old Trafford. The Portuguese wore that famous jersey throughout his six seasons as a Red between 2003 and 2009, but it was not available when his transfer back to the club was confirmed last month.
Cavani wore the no.7 shirt throughout his successful debut season at United and the incredibly popular striker began this campaign with it too, during his substitute appearance at Wolves.
“Edinson has been remarkable,” praised Ole. “Cristiano spoke with Edinson and they spoke to each other. And to pass on his shirt just shows the respect he’s got for Cristiano, but also Cristiano speaking to Edinson shows the respect the other way. Two top, top professionals and players.”

Ronaldo surpasses Ali Daie’s tally, breaks all-time men’s international scoring record

Almancil [Portugal], September 2 : Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 110th international goal to surpass Iran legend Ali Daie’s tally as he broke the all-time men’s scoring record in their World Cup qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday (local time).
Ronaldo first netted a goal in the dying minutes of the match to save the game and then fired another in the stoppage time as Portugal defeated the Republic of Ireland 2-1. With this goal, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now scored 111 international goals and is now leading the charts.
Former footballer Daei scored 109 international goals during his 13-year long illustrious career. Ronaldo had earlier equalled the Iran legend’s record during Euro 2020.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson played a big role in roping the Portuguese striker for Manchester United.
In his earlier stint with the Red Devils, Ronaldo led the side to three Premier League titles and the Champions League between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 games under Alex Ferguson.
“As everybody knows, since I signed for Manchester United at 18, Sir Alex Ferguson was the key. I remember when we played against Manchester when I was at Sporting Lisbon. For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is like a father in football for me,” Ronaldo told MUTV.
“He helped me a lot, he taught me many things, and in my opinion, of course, he had a big role because of the relationship that we had, we keep in touch all the time, and he’s an unbelievable person. I really like him a lot and he was the main key for me to be in the position that I am, that I signed for Manchester United,” he added.
On Tuesday, the Premier League club confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa, and medical.

Back to where he started: Ronaldo signs with Man Utd

Manchester [UK]: Manchester United on Friday confirmed that the club has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa, and medical.

The 29-year-old, who last season became only the tenth player to win a European Cup and a Euro in the same year, beat off competition from Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea team-mate N’Golo Kante.
The midfielder proved to be the perfect foil for Kante as Chelsea called the tune against European heavyweights Atletico, Real Madrid and Manchester City on their way to UEFA Champions League glory.
The Player of the Match display against Porto in Chelsea’s quarter-final opener underlined his ability to dictate play and vindicated Thomas Tuchel’s decision to make him part of his first-choice midfield pairing. Roberto Mancini took note, making the 29-year-old the linchpin of Italy’s Euro-winning outfit.
The London-based club took home another individual trophy as Thomas Tuchel was named UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year. Tuchel beat off competition from Roberto Mancini and Josep Guardiola to become the second German winner after Hansi Flick claimed the inaugural award for 2019/20.
