UP Felicitates Olympics medalists

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) : The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday felicitated Tokyo Olympics medalists Neeraj Chopra, Ravi Dahiya, PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia and other Olympians. Various dignitaries, including Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present on the occasion at an event held at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra was awarded a cash award of Rs 2 crores. Wrestlers Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia received Rs 1.5 crores and Rs 1 crore respectively. Bronze medallists shuttler PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain received Rs 1 crore each. The Uttar Pradesh government also felicitated the Indian men and women hockey teams. The bronze-medal winning men’s hockey team got Rs 1 crores for each member. The women hockey team was given Rs 50 lakhs for each member and the supporting staff of the hockey team received Rs 10 lakhs each.


India discus thrower Kamalpreet puts on spirited show, finishes 6th in final

Tokyo [Japan] : India discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur put up a spirited display on her debut Olympic campaign, but couldn’t win a medal as she finished at the sixth spot in the final with a best throw of 63.70m at the Tokyo Games on Monday. Kamalpreet had made it into the top eight with the throw of 63.70m. This was her third attempt, but the athlete failed to make the top three as two of her remaining three attempts were flagged (disqualified). Kamalpreet Kaur started off with a throw of 61.62m and was in sixth place before dropping to seventh.Kamalpreet’s second attempt was a foul which saw her moving down after a good start. Olympics – PM Modi reviews India’s preparation

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at Tokyo Olympics and discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given to them. He will also interact with the Tokyo-bound athletes on July 13 to motivate them for their participation in forthcoming Games. In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, “Reviewed preparations for facilitation of India’s contingent at @Tokyo2020. Discussed the logistical details, their vaccination status, the multi-disciplinary support being given”. In his other message he said, “On behalf of 130 crore Indians, I would be interacting with the Olympics bound athletes on 13th July to wish them luck.
