Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India]: Following the mild tremors of earthquakes that have been felt in parts of Karnataka’s Kalaburagi in the past four days, state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday chaired a meeting with officials to discuss the matter. As per information shared by the chief minister’s office, the meeting was scheduled on an urgent basis with officials of the Natural Disaster Management Cell at Bengaluru to discuss the preparedness of the state if the calamity hits at a bigger scale.Officials were instructed to immediately set up relief centres in Chincholi and Sedam, the CMO said. Washington DC [US]: A 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred next to the city in the Los Angeles County of California, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on Friday (local time). Beijing, Aug 26: The northwestern Chinese province of Gansu has been hit by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake, the national seismological center said. The tremor was recorded at 23:38 GMT in the Aksay Kazakh Autonomous County of the Jiuquan prefecture-level city. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 15 kilometers (9 miles). There are no reports about any damage or victims caused by the earthquake.

Moscow, Aug 18: The United Nations will continue to provide aid for Haitians affected by the devastating earthquake, including medical support and emergency shelter, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday. “My message to the people of Haiti: You are not alone. We stand by your side in these trying times. The @UN continues to assist those affected by Saturday’s deadly earthquake with humanitarian aid, including medical supplies & health care, clean water, emergency shelter & more,” Guterres wrote on Twitter. On Monday, the UN allocated $8 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund to support the humanitarian response in Haiti. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on Saturday, claiming the lives of nearly 2,000 people. On Monday, the Haitian government declared three days of national mourning for the disaster’s victims.
Moscow, Aug 15 : A new 5.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Haiti, a day after a more powerful deadly tremor, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said on Sunday. The earthquake was registered at 03:20 GMT, with the epicenter located 41 kilometers (25 miles) northwestern of the southern city of Les Cayes at a depth of 30 kilometers. On Saturday, Haiti faced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that left more than 300 people dead and over 1,800 more injured.

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY: A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East on Wednesday, the regional branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GS RAS) said. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 40 kilometers (24.8 miles), 162 kilometers (100.6 miles) of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Kamchatka is located in a seismically active zone known as the Ring of Fire and regularly suffers from earthquakes. The eastern coast of the peninsula lies along the border of three tectonic plates – Okhotsk, Pacific and North American ones – with the latter two moving toward the first one, which increases the seismic activity in the region.
