Chinese national pleads guilty to stealing trade secrets: US Justice Dept

Washington [US]): A Chinese national pleaded guilty in a US court to stealing trade secrets from Monsanto agribusiness corporation to benefit Beijing, the Justice Department said in a statement on Thursday (local time). “Xiang Haitao, 44, a Chinese national formerly residing in Chesterfield, Missouri, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit economic espionage,” the Justice Department said.“According to court documents, Xiang conspired to steal a trade secret from Monsanto, an international company based in St. Louis, for the purpose of benefitting a foreign government, namely the People’s Republic of China,” it added. Two children killed, Chinese national injured in blast targeting convoy in Pakistan’s Punjab

Punjab [Pakistan]: Two children were among at least five people who were killed as a suicide bomber blew himself up targeting a vehicle carrying Chinese nationals on the Gwadar expressway in Pakistan’s Punjab Province. At least 30 people, including a Chinese national, was also injured in the incident that took place on Friday evening according to media reports. A convoy comprising four vehicles carrying Chinese nationals “with integral security details of Pakistan army and police contingent” was targeted on East Bay Expressway in Gwadar. Chinese mainland reports 61 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

Beijing, Aug 12: The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 61 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 38 in Jiangsu Province, 10 in Hubei, seven in Hunan, and three each in Henan and Yunnan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Thursday. Also reported were 20 new imported cases, including five each in Shanghai, Guangdong and Yunnan, three in Guangxi, and one each in Fujian and Sichuan. Two suspected cases arriving from outside the mainland were newly reported in Shanghai on Wednesday. No deaths related to COVID-19 were newly reported, the commission added.
