Suriya, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Wins At Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne 2021

Actor Suriya and his film ‘SooraraiPottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara won the Best Performance Male and Best film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021. The movie loosely based on the biography of Capt Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline, Air Deccan had Aparna Balamurali playing the female lead with music score by GV Prakash.

Produced by Suriya’s home banner 2D Entertainment, Soorarai Pottru has won the Best film award at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Interestingly, the winner of the Best Film wins a URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 from Black Magic Design and a nomination in the Best Asian Film Category in the prestigious Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA Awards).

‘Soorarai Pottru’ also had an ensemble cast of including Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas. The film was released on Amazon Prime due to the COVID-19 lockdown on November 12, 2020. This film received a massive response and turned into a small screen blockbuster garnering millions of views in a short span of time.

Soorarai Pottru, which has a commendable 9.1 IMDb rating is now the third highest-rated movie on IMDb, of all time. It has effectively become the highest-rated Indian movie on IMDb.
