Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Jai Ram Thakur is a self made personality. He is the son of Late Shri Jethu Ram Thakur ji. He was born on 6^th January, 1965 at Tandi, Distt. Mandi;

He is a Graduate and educated at Govt. College, Mandi. He has been married to Dr. Sadhna Thakur and having two daughters, Basically he is a Agriculturist/ Horticulturist.

Political Achievements: Remained Joint Secretary, State ABVP, 1986; Organizing Secretary, ABVP (J&K), 1989-93; Secretary, State Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, 1993-95; President: State BJYM,ii) B.J.P. District Mandi, 2000-03;Vice President, State Bharatiya Janata Party, 2003-05; and President, State Bharatiya Janata Party, 2006-09.

Elected to the State Legislative Assembly in 1998; re-elected in 2003, 2007 from Chachiot Assembly Constituency and in 2012 from Seraj Assembly Constituency; Before delimitation in 2007,Seraj Assembly segment was known as Chachiot.

Remained Chairman, Rural Planning Committee and Member of various other House Committees from January, 2008 to July, 2009; Chairman, General Development Committee & Education Committee; Vice-Chairman, State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. ; Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister from 09^th July, 2009 to December, 2012; and Member, Estimates, Public Undertakings, Ethics and Human Development Committees, 2013-17.

Re-elected to the thirteenth Vidhan Sabha (5^th term) in December, 2017; assumed the office of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on 27^th December, 2017. Under his leadership, many new initiatives have been taken and he is gaining popularity day by day. From a student leader to the Chief Minister of the state, he has covered a long journey.

Special Interest: Organizing blood donation camps and Social service.

Favorite Pastime: Listening old songs, performing one act plays and going on excursion.

Highlights :

Born on 6 January, 1965 in Tandi village of Murahag panchayat of Seraj assembly constituency in Mandi district. His father’s name was Jethu Ram and mother’s name is Briku Devi. He did his primary education from Kurani School and studied in High School Bagsyad near Thunag.
He completed his graduation from Vallabh Government College Mandi and did his MA from Punjab University. He is the youngest of three brothers. He has two sisters. During his college and University days, he was the member of ABVP and in the year 1993 he fought his first election from Chachiot assembly constituency when he was 26 years of age.
In 1998 he won his election from Chachiot assembly constituency and has been MLA from Chachiot (which after delimitation is known as Seraj assembly constituency) since then. He is MLA for five consecutive terms. He remained State BJP President and was Cabinet Minister in previous BJP government. He has also remained as Vice Chairman, State Civil Supplies Corporation. He also remained as President of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha.
He is married to Dr. Sadhna Singh from Jaipur and has two daughters.
