We have seen him in a wide range of roles over the years. Arguably the most talented contemporary actor Tollywood has ever seen, Saswata Chatterjee is a byword for a reel chameleon. Throw him anything, and he would deliver a character to remember. Who can forget his stellar act as the stone-cold killer Bob Biswas? Not just in Bengali cinema but Saswata has made a name for himself in Bollywood as well. Now, if all goes according to plan, the versatile actor will soon make his debut down South.
During an chat with an entertainment portal recently the seasoned actor hinted that he’s set to act in a Telugu film. “I won’t reveal much but yes, I will play a key role in a multi-lingual film which is being made in Hindi and Telugu. Frankly speaking I don’t know anything about Telugu. But the director has his faith on me. He said I can do it. I’m now learning the meaning of each of the words and trying to figure out which are important and need to be pronounced properly. But I must say it’s quite difficult,” shared the actor.
Saswata also feels the fine line between the film industries is now getting blurred, “These days language is not a problem. If it was a barrier for actors how I am getting so many offers? Why the directors want me to cast?”
The celebrated actor was recently seen in Sayantan Ghosal’s thriller ‘Swastik Sanket’ playing an important historical character like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Saswata admits he was nervous when prepping up for the character, “I was offered such a Bengali character whom the entire nation salutes. I know I couldn’t become Netaji onscreen in each scene but I have tried my best using my acting skills and attitude onscreen. I used to see the old footages of Netaji and used to imitate him.”
