Samantha is back in the news. This time, it is for her upcoming film, Shaakuntalam. The makers unveiled the first-look poster of Shaakuntalam today, February 21. Samantha looks ethereal in a white ensemble adorned with red flowers. She can be seen surrounded by a bunch of deer and a peacock. The mythological drama is directed by Gunasekhar.
Samantha wrapped up the shooting of Shaakuntalam in 2021. The mythological drama is produced by Neelima Guna. The film was completed before the actress announced her separation from Naga Chaitanya.

While Samantha plays the role of Shakuntala, Dev Mohan will be seen as King Dushyant. The film is based on a popular Indian play titled Shakuntala, written by Kalidasa. Shaakuntalam will release in five languages later this year.
Samantha had decided to take a break from films after wrapping up Shaakuntalam. She had asked the film’s producer to plan her schedule accordingly so she could wrap up the shoot before August 2021.
In an interview with The News Minute, Neelima said, “Last year itself, when my father director Gunasekhar garu and I approached Samantha for Shaakuntalam, she loved the story and was very excited by it, but she told us that if she were to accept the role, the shooting should be completed by maximum July/August this year. She informed me that she was planning to start a family and that she wants to become a mother and that it would be her priority. “
Samantha was initially apprehensive of signing the film as period films take a long time to complete. However, the actress was impressed with producer Neelima and the entire Shaakuntalam team for adhering to her request.
