Recoveries overtake COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, for the consecutive second day

Shillong, Meghalaya (India) : For the second consecutive day, recoveries from the viral infection overtook
the number of daily cases on Monday with 649 recoveries surging the number of recovered cases to 67,164 and 352 new positive cases adding up to 3,761 active cases in Meghalaya, which has so far registered 72,160 confirmed cases.
The state also recorded eight deaths due to COVID-19 related complications on Monday, with six of the deceased were not vaccinated against the virus, Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said.
While six COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in East Khasi Hills district, two fatalities were recorded in the West Khasi Hills district, he informed.
Out of the 352 new positive cases, Dr. War said 241 fresh cases were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 40 in West Jaintia Hills district, 28 in Ri-Bhoi district, 24 in West Khasi Hills district, six in East Garo Hills district, four each in East Jaintia Hills district and West Garo Hills district, two each in South West Khasi Hills district and South West Garo Hills district and one case in North Garo Hills district.
With 1,695 active cases and 864 deaths, the East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected district followed by West Khasi Hills district with 471 active cases and 45 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 454 active cases and 106 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 393 active cases and 70 deaths, West Garo Hills district with 383 active cases and 67 deaths and South West Khasi Hills district with 175 active cases and 12 deaths, while the other districts had less than 100
active cases each as per the latest official count.
Meanwhile, of the 9,19,039 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till date, 8,46,879 persons
were tested negative for the virus as on date.
Till today, 32,019 health care workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose
and 24,537 received the second dose, 96,921 front-line workers got the first jab and 56,511 took the second shot, 8,40,097 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first
dose and 1,76,373 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State.
