Joining the line-up of celebrated filmmakers and actors heading to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year is Pa Ranjith. He will be launching the first-look poster of his next film, titled Vettuvam, on May 19.
A source close to the Kaala director says, “Ranjith left for Cannes right after attending the trailer and audio launch function of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kamal Haasan-Vijay Sethupathi-Fahadh Faasil-starrer, Vikram. He will be walking the red carpet this evening, and will also be attending a host of other events before unveiling the poster of his film on May 19.”
Buzz is, Vettuvam is about a Robin Hood-like figure who surrenders to the police and goes to prison, and the story takes off from that point. Our source says, “Vettuvam means vettai, to hunt. Ranjith has written the film and will be directing it, too. The cast and crew of the film will be announced at Cannes. The filmmaker will start work on the project once he is back in the city.”
Meanwhile, Ranjith has finished his film with Kalidas Jayaram and Dushara Vijayan, titled Natchathiram Nagargirathu. “After Vettuvam, he will move on to his films with Vikram and Kamal Haasan, and only then take up Birsa Munda biopic, which is his ambitious project,” reveals the source.
