Meghalaya records five COVID-19 related deaths, 429 fresh cases

Shillong, Aug 12: Five fatalities due to COVID-19 related complications increased the number of deaths due to the viral infection to 1,200 and 429 new cases of infection added up to 4,539 active cases, even as 381 more recoveries surged the number of recovered cases to 64,922 on Thursday in Meghalaya, which has so far registered 70,661 confirmed cases.
Four of the five fatalities recorded today were of those who were not vaccinated against COVID-19, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said, adding that four deaths due to the virulent infection occurred in East Khasi Hills district and one death was recorded in Ri-Bhoi district.
Out of the 429 fresh COVID-19 cases, the senior medical official said, 153 were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 80 in West Khasi Hills district, 71 in Ri-Bhoi district, 46 in West Garo Hills district,
43 in South West Khasi Hills district, 11 in West Jaintia Hills district, 10 in South Garo Hills district, five each in East Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district, three in East Jaintia Hills district and two cases in the South West Garo Hills district.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most Covid-19 affected district with 1,903 active cases and 841 deaths, followed by West Khasi Hills district with 689 active cases and 39 deaths, West Garo Hills district with 551 active cases and 65 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 461 active cases and 67 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 418 active cases and 105 deaths and South West Khasi Hills district with 239 active cases and 12 deaths while the other districts had less than 100
active cases each as per the latest official count.
Of the 9,04,802 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till Thursday, 8,34,141 were tested
negative for the virus.
While 31, 973 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, 24,233 have been administered with the second dose, 96,901 front-line workers got the first shot and 53,651 took the second shot, 8,22,144 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,64,778 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, as per official information.
