Manicka Vinayagam Dies At 78

Renowned playback singer and folk artist Manicka Vinayagam breathed his last on December 26 due to heart-related complications in Chennai. Reportedly, he suffered a heart attack. He was 78 years old. He had sung more than 800 songs apart from acting in Tamil films. Celebrities including Sarathkumar and Manobala took to Twitter to express their shock over his death.

Manicka Vinayagam was one of the popular folk artists in Tamil Nadu. He passed away on December 26 in Chennai. He was the son of dancer Vazuvoor B Ramaiah Pillai. The entire Tamil industry is shocked to hear about his demise.

Actor Sarathkumar took to Twitter to offer his condolences and paid tribute to him. Similarly, actor Manobala took to Twitter to pay last respects to him.

Manicka Vinayagam made his debut as a playback singer with the superhit song Kannukulla Gelathi in Vikram-starrer Dhill. The song was composed by Vidyasagar and became a chartbuster in 2001. He then made his acting debut with Thiruda Thirudi, in which he played the role of Dhanush’s father.

In his career spanning several decades, Manicka Vinayagam had sung over 800 songs in various languages and almost 15,000 devotional, folk and Carnatic music songs.

Some of his famous songs include Vidai Kodu, Theradi Veethiyil, Subbamma Subbamma, Koduva Meesai, Kattu Kattu, Aiyyayoo, Naane Inthiran and America Endralum.
