Legendary badminton player and Deepika Padukone’s father Prakash Padukone tests positive for Covid-19

Legendary Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone has tested positive for COVID-19 and is recovering from the infection at a hospital in Bengaluru. He had taken his first dose of vaccine and was waiting for the second one but got tested positive.

Vimal Kumar, a close friend of Prakash Padukone told news agencies ‘Around 10 days back, Prakash, his wife (Ujjala) and second daughter (Anisha), they developed symptoms and got themselves tested and the results came out to be positive. He is okay now. All his parameters are fine, his wife and daughter are at home and he too will be hopefully discharged in 2-3 days.’

India’s badminton entered its golden period a few years ago, with the likes of PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and Kidambi Srikanth challenging the world’s best for the top honors. It was, however, Prakash Padukone who was the first shuttler from the nation to make the right noise at the international level. He is the father of famous Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. He is a true legend in the Indian sporting fraternity and was considered among the best shuttlers not just in India but across the world during the 1970s and 1980s.

Following his retirement in 1991, Padukone served as the chairman of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). He was also the coach of the Indian team from 1993 to 1996. He is the director of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy. (PPBA)
