Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14: Covid-19 was newly detected in 19,451 persons in Kerala on Friday while 19,104 patients have recovered from the disease, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. In a press release here this evening, the CM said, “1,39,223 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) is 13.97per cent. A total of 2,93,34,981 samples have been sent for testing till this day.” Meanwhile, 105 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to 18,499. Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 8 at 634 wards under 87 Local Self Governments (LSGs) where strict restrictions are being imposed. In the last 24 hours, Covid was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus.
