India’s first, International University of Public Health & Technology initiated to bring Change in Public Health Scenario of the Country

Kolkata (WB) : Saturday could be a milestone in the public health Scenario of the country when India’s first Public Health University, International University of Public Health and Technology-Kolkata was initiated in presence of distinguished scientists and public health experts from India and USA. In a grand Initiation ceremony at the Newtown Kolkata Campus, Founder Chairman, Dr. Pradip Ghosh welcomed delegates and emphasized on the urgent need of innovative ideas in the field of Public Health and Health care industry. He presented his vision of Public Health through a Roadmap for the Future.

  Internationally acclaimed Scientist and Padmashri Prof. Nirmal Ganguly focussed on the original issues being faced by the Public Health Ecosystem presently and how with great passion and precision, scientific community could intervene to bring a positive change in the lives of millions in India.

Prof. Ganguly also highlighted the great talent and Institutes Kolkata have in this regard. Prof Ganguly would be the Chancellor of this first of it’s kind Public Health University (IUPHT). On the occasion Prof. Ganguly and Dr. Pradip Ghosh emphasized on the requirement of Public Health Initiatives and professional education in the country. Dr. Pradip Ghosh has decided to mobilise more than 100 public health researchers and sceintists across globe to join his Public Health mission. He is also trying to bring in International Collaborations in academics and technology.

Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Senior Advisor, I3T and IUPHT, an eminent scientist, leadership trainer and internationally acclaimed healthcare expert presented his valuable insights on The central Govt Policies and Implementation Methods on various aspects of Public Health, while Dr. David Peters,Edgar Berman Professor & Chair-Dept. of International Health Johns Hopkins University focused on the International Collaborations and the initiatives required to tackle the current challenges globally. Dr. Dhrubojyoti Chattopadhayay, Chief Scientific and academic Advisor- I3T/IUPHT and Vice Chancellor, Sister Nivedita University was of the opinion that Research and Innovation should be intensive and how the scientific community could come together and contribute substantially in the development and improvement of Public Health scenario in the State and the Country.

Padmashri Dr. Virandar Chahan, Former Acting Chairman-UGC and Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee- I3T/IUPHT, Prof Santanu Tripathi, Dean of Research-I3T/IUPHT, Mrs Ruma Dey , CGM-State Bank of India, Dr. Santanu Chattopadhayay-COO-Roche Pharmaceuticals emphasized on various aspects of Public Health in India, the trends & challenges across globe.
                                                                                                              
Popular Leader and MLA Shri Madan Mitra was felicitated
On this occasion Shri Debashish Sen, MD-WBHIDCO was also there to extend his support to this proposed upcoming Public Health University. Shri Madan Mitra, the Sports and Transport Minister in the first Assembly of Visionary Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and current MLA, highlighted the efforts of the West Bengal Govt. in the improvement of Health Sector and Public Health scenario in the country. He assured to extend his best support to Dr. Pradip Ghosh, Founder Chairman, Pradip and Kumkum Ghosh Family Foundation & IUPHT, and advised all the public health experts and the scientific community to take new initiatives and do something substantial in West Bengal. The Grand Initiation Ceremony was attended by more than 100 scientists, researchers and eminent personalities of the society. University is expected to be operational from this year. Different UG and PG courses related to Public Health will be offered. Ph.D. programs and intensive research facilities will be provided, as informed by the officials.
