With the ‘Dia’ actor Pruthvi Ambaar playing the part, the team has released yet another exciting update via social media to reveal that popular TV actress Ankita Amar has been roped in as the film’s leading lady. Ankita is currently playing the role of Meera in the hit TV serial ‘Nammane Yuvarani’ and has risen in popularity over the years, thanks to her on-screen pairing with actor Deepak Gowda who plays Aniketh on the show.   • Puneeth Rajkumar’s ‘James’ To Release On March 17?
    The makers of late Puneeth Rajkumar starring ‘James’ are leaving no stone unturned to release James on March 17 on the birthday of the power star. The project helmed by Chethan Kumar sees Puneeth Rajkumar and Priya Anand sharing screen space for the second time after Raajakumara. The project which has been shot in North Karnataka has action and family elements. The posters have already increased the curiosity of cine philes. It is reported that the film is currently in post-production stage. The dubbing portions of all the characters has been completed except Puneeth’s portions. The team was planning to release teaser and poster in the coming months which has been held back due to spike in covid cases. The team is trying it’s best to retain Puneeth’s original voice for his character by using modern technology. James also has Adithya Menon, Srikanth and Anu Prabhakar in prominent roles.   • ‘Mafia’: First Character Sketch Of D. Sathyanarayana
    The making of ‘Mafia’ is currently in full swing. The team, post a few significant changes, began filming with full gusto about five weeks ago and Prajwal Devaraj, the film’s lead, took to social media a short while ago to reveal the first character sketch of his role. The special poster, presenting Prajwal’s intense cop avatar in the film, also reveals that his character is named D. Sathyanarayana. “The demons don’t know they are fighting the DEVIL. Revealing to you the first character sketch of Sathya – @ D SATHYANARAYANA,” wrote Prajwal in his post to share the intriguing side of his character. The actor had previously revealed in an exclusive chat that ‘Mafia’, the film, is mainly concerned with a crooked human trafficking nexus and Prajwal plays a cop in the film whose rather peculiar methods come to the fore when he tries to get to the bottom of things. The film is being directed by Lohith H. of ‘Mummy’ and ‘Devaki’ fame who was brought on board to replace the initial choice, Gurudatha Ganiga. Aditi Prabhudeva plays the female lead in the film who joined the sets on the 5th of January.     Actor Anish Tejeshwar’s 11th film has been titled as Benki. The first look poster and title has been revealed on the occasion of his birthday today. Sharing few posters from the film, Anish on his social media posted, “Very happy to announce my next movie #Benki “ The project is being produced by Anish himself is directed by Shaan. Sampada Hulivana, who was seen in Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s Rider, will play the female lead in the movie. According a report, “The movie which has a horror comedy element highlights brothr and sister bonding is set in a village.” Sruthi Patil will be seen as a sister in the film. In an interview with us, she had told, ““I play Anish’s sister, Seetha, an educated girl from a village, who faces hurdles in life due to a guy who was to marry her. In fact, the entire story rides on the brother-sister sentiment.   • Sandalwood Industry Mourns The Demise Of Renowned Writer Champa
    Actors from the Sandalwood industry have condoled the death of renowned Kannada writer Champa on social media platforms. Chandrashekhar Patil also known as Champa passed away in Bengaluru at a private hospital today due to age related illness. He was 82. Expressing the grief, Chetan on his twitter page posted, We have lost progressive intellectual & writer #Champa Sir today For the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of sharing the stage w/ him on several occasions The events include: Kannada Rajyotsava, ‘I Am Gauri’, anti-Hindi movement in Bengaluru, & others We will miss him(sic)” Actor Sharan and actress-turned-politician Sumalatha Ambareesh have also shared condolence messages for the loss of Champa on Facebook. Champa was born in Haveri district. He worked as a English professor at Karnatak University in Dharwad. He had served as chairman of Kannada Development Authority and president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. He was also involved in pro-Kannada movements like Gokak Chaluvali, farmers agitation and more. He was one of the founders of the Bandaya movement of Kannada literature. He was also the president of the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana which was held at Mysuru in 2017.
  • Sandalwood Braces Itself As State Announces New Theatre Occupancy Guidelines
    The past two years have been a taxing period for the Kannada Film Industry. During the course, many film releases have been delayed and productions have had to be stalled due to the repeated onset of the coronavirus pandemic. While filmmakers have steadily grown prudent and adjusted to the bizarreness of it all, many other components of the industry are struggling to cope with such a tricky situation. And now, just as the Kannada Film Industry regains some of its lost momentum through a great box office run over the past couple of months, the pandemic seems to have taken a new shape to play spoilsport. With the onslaught of the new Omicron variant already on its way, the government of Karnataka has cited early precaution and released a new set of guidelines for the general public which, just as in the past, significantly affect the theatre occupancy rates. The new set of guidelines released on the 3rd of January direct cinema halls, multiplexes, auditoriums, etc. to operate at 50% occupancy for, at least, a two-week period. As per the statement issued, the new restrictions are to come into effect on the 5th of January (10 pm onwards) and shall remain in place till January 19th.   • Yogaraj Bhat, Kourava Venkatesh Prep For ‘Garadi’ At Mysuru Gymnasium
    Yogaraj Bhat’s upcoming venture ‘Garadi’, starring Yashas Surya and Rachita Ram in the lead, has reportedly taken off already. The director, as per the latest online reports, was spotted at a Garadi mane, or a traditional Indian gymnasium, in Mysuru along with stunt director Kourava Venkatesh for the purpose of research and ideation for the film. ‘Garadi’, the film, is set in entirely in North Karnataka and will be shot in historical places such as Badami and Aihole. Former cop and actor B.C. Patil produces the film with V. Harikrishna composing the score and Challenging Star Darshan, who launched the film recently, is playing a special role in the film.   • ‘Gajanana And Gang’ To Release On February 4, 2022
    Much like December, the upcoming February too is all set to be an exciting month for all the Kannada cinema patrons. With ‘Old Monk’ and ‘Love Mocktail 2’ releasing on the 11th of February and the mighty ‘Vikrant Rona’ on the 24th, the stage was already set for a super fun outing at the cinema halls. And now, to make things better, ‘Gajanana and Gang’ joins the list of releases in February. The Shri Mahadev and Aditi Prabhudeva starrer will a worldwide release on the 4th of February (2022). ‘Gajanana and Gang’ will be Shri Mahadev’s second feature after making a promising debut in films about three years ago with ‘Iruvudella Bittu’.     It was reported recently that the makers of ‘Ombattane Dikku’ had pushed the release of the film from December 31st to January 28th (2022) so as to accommodate a wider release across Karnataka. The film, which starts Yogesh and Aditi Prabhudeva in the lead, was previously slated to clash with ‘Love You Racchu’ on the 31st but the makers, citing fewer theatrical slots as the main reason, have now chosen a different date for their release. However, fans will get to witness a box office clash, nevertheless, as the Diganth Manchale starrer ‘Huttu Habbada Shubhashayagalu’ gears up for a release on the 31st of December.   • ‘Ombattane Dikku’ To Release On January 28, 2022
    The Yogesh-Aditi Prabhudeva starrer ‘Ombattane Dikku’ was earlier scheduled for a theatrical release on the 31st of December (2021). However, owing to box office clashes and the resulting unavailability of sufficient theatre slots, the team has now decided on pushing the release by four weeks – ‘Ombattane Dikku’ will now hit the big screens on the 28th of January, 2022. He stated that the makers chose to postpone the release due to factors like theatre availability and in order to ensure box office returns, the change in plans seemed warranted. Previously, ‘Ombattane Dikku’ was slated for a box office with the Ajai Rao – Rachita Ram starrer ‘Love You Rachchu’ on the 31st of December. Ombattane Dikku will be Aditi Prabhudeva’s second outing with Dayal Padmanabhan after the 2019 film ‘Ranganayaki’. The director, known for his thrillers, had revealed to an online daily that although ‘Ombattane Dikku’ isn’t a women-centric narrative, it still boasts of strong female characters for a bonafide action-thriller. Reportedly, the film happens to be a legal remake of a Tamil hit and Dayal Padmanabhan has made changes to the plot so as to suit the local Kannada audience.
  • Adhvithi Shetty: ‘I Have Begun Learning Telugu’
    Adhvithi Shetty is the latest actor from the Kannada film industry to make her presence felt in Telugu films. She has signed up for a film called Mr Begger, which will see her share screen space with Sampoornesh. An elated Adhvithi tells us, “I am looking forward to embarking on an exciting journey. Working in the new industry, meeting new people, learning new things about filmmaking is the best way to start the New Year. Even though we will begin shoot only next month, I have begun learning Telugu to help me prepare for my role better.” Yet another reason why this film has her excited is the fact that this one will be a comedy film. “I play the role of Nandini, daughter of an antagonist. She comes from an affluent family and has certain values which she never wants to give up in her life. Mr Beggar is an out and out comedy and I believe making people laugh is one of the toughest things to do,” says Adhvithi, who has a series of Kannada films in the pipeline too.
