Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: CPI(M) on Sunday commemorated the Independence Day by hoisting the tricolours at the party’s state headquarters ‘AKG Centre’ for the first time in Kerala.
The national flags were hoisted in all the party district offices for the first time following the party’s direction to celebrate independence day.
CPM state acting secretary A Vijayaraghavan hoisted the national flag at the party head office. Party leaders M Vijayakumar, PK Sreemathy, MC Josephine were also present during the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, A Vijayaraghavan said that the party will make it as a year-long celebration this year.
He clarified that on August 15, 1947, then state secretary P Krishna Pillai hoisted the national flag at the party office.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sabarinathan KS alleged that the CPM violated the flag code by hoisting the party flag near to the national flag.
According to the National Flag Code 2.2, no other flag or bunting should be placed higher than or above or side by side with the national flag, he said in a Facebook post.
