The Supreme Court order in a self-cognizance case regarding Covid-19 said that the central and state governments should consider stopping the second coronavirus wave and impose a lockdown in public interest.
The court has also said in its order that in the event of lockdown, special care should be taken of the people of the society who are poor or who do not have proper means to live and eat. Significantly, taking suo motu cognizance of the worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the Supreme Court reserved the verdict after hearing on April 30.
In the case of shortage of oxygen in hospitals of Delhi, the Supreme Court has ordered that the central government should make sure that there is no lack of oxygen in Delhi before the midnight of 3 May. Point to be noted is that
Government and non-government hospitals in Delhi are suffering from lack of oxygen. Many patients lost their lives in Jaipur Golden and Batra hospitals due to lack of oxygen.
The court has also ordered that the central government along with the states prepare a buffer stock of oxygen for emergency within 4 days. This stock should not be in one place but in different place. This buffer stock will be in addition to the quota allocated to the states.
The court, in its order, has said that the National Policy should be made for the recruitment in the center hospital and the state governments follow it. Citizens of the country cannot be denied hospitalization, medicine in any state or union territory because they do not have a local identity card. The Supreme Court has stated in its outbreak that the use of military resources should be considered for covid vaccination.
The Supreme Court has also made it clear in its order that there should be no restriction on posting any information related to demand / delivery of any assistance on social media. If the administration bothers, then the court will have to face tough stance.
The Supreme Court has said that a copy of this order should be sent to all the State District Magistrates. Significantly, on the complaint of oxygen and medicine on social media, an FIR has been registered by the police on some people in Uttar Pradesh.
