• Mamata Banerjee visits Siddhivinayak Temple
    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a three-day tour to Maharashtra, visited Siddhivinayak Temple on Tuesday.While speaking to the media, Banerjee said, “I came to Mumbai many times but never came to Siddhivinayak temple. I also worship Ganpati Bappa at my home. I am thankful to the Maharashtra government. I prayed here for Uddhav Thackeray Ji’s health. I am very happy to visit here.” A meeting between Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will take place at Mumbai’s Nariman point at 8 pm on Tuesday.Informing about the meeting, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told the media, “A meeting between West Bengal Chief Minister and Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aditya Thackeray will take place in Mumbai today at 8 pm. I will also join the meeting.”Meanwhile, Shiv Sena in a statement informed that due to health issues, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will not be meeting Banerjee.“Due to health issues, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray won’t be meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her two-day visit to Mumbai. She has earlier announced that she will be meeting CM over several issues,” the statement said.

    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] : Amid the worry of the new COVID-19 variant ‘Omicron’, the reopening of schools for classes 1 to 7, in Mumbai, has been postponed till December 15, informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.Earlier, the schools for classes 1 to 7 was scheduled to reopen from December 1. School for classes 8 to 12 had reopened earlier on October 4.The Omicron variant (B.1.1.529), a new variant of the coronavirus, was first reported in Botswana on November 11, 2021, and appeared on November 14 in South Africa. It has been declared a variant of concern by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Percy Norris was British Deputy High commissioner in Mumbai when he was killed by 2 bike-borne men on 28th November 1984 near this same Flora Fountain. Norris was declared dead on arrival at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital.   • ‘Absconding’ Ex Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh reaches Mumbai, joins probe in extortion case
    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]- Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh who has been declared ‘absconding’ by a Mumbai court, has arrived at Crime Branch unit 11 office in Kandivali to join the investigation of the Goregaon extortion case, informed police official. “He has reached at Crime Branch unit 11 and he will record his statement in Goregaon extortion case,” said Milind Bharambe, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Monday told the Supreme Court that he is very much in the country and he is not absconding, the top court granted him interim protection from arrest and directed him to join the investigation. Six cases of corruption and extortion were filed against Singh after he wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray levelling corruption and misconduct against the then Home Minister and senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh. Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner on March 17 and was made the General Commander of Maharashtra State Home Guard after he levelled allegations against Deshmukh.

    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: A Mumbai court order, declaring former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh as ‘absconding’ has been pasted outside his flat located in Juhu on Tuesday. The order said that a complaint has been made before the court under various sections of the Indian Penal Code related to extortion and criminal conspiracy and the court is satisfied that the accused i.e., Singh has absconded or concealing himself to avoid the service of the warrant.“Singh is required to appear before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Esplanade, Mumbai or investigating officer to answer the said complaint within 30 days,” reads the order issued by the court. The ED had earlier summoned Gawali on October 20 in connection with the case.Saeed Khan was arrested by the ED on September 28.   • No evidence of conspiracy: Bombay HC in bail order of Aryan Khan
    Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] : The Bombay High Court, in its order, has said that there is “hardly any positive evidence” against Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant, and Munmun Dhamecha, who were arrested in the drugs-on-cruise case, for the offence of conspiracy under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.“There is hardly any positive evidence on record to convince this Court that all the accused persons with common intention agreed to commit unlawful act,” the High Court said in its 14-page order while granting bail to three including Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant, and Munmun Dhamecha. It further explained that “merely because Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant, and Munmun Dhamecha were travelling on the same cruise,” that by itself cannot be termed as “satisfying foundaotin” for invoking provisions of Section 29 against them.“Court has already observed that there is no material on record to infer that Applicants have hatched conspiracy to commit the offence. That being so, at this stage, it is difficult to infer that Applicants are involved in an offence of commercial quantity. As such, parameters laid down under Section 37 of the NDPS Act will be of hardly any consequence while considering the prayer for grant of bail of the Applicants,” the Court said.All the three accused were granted bail by the High Court on October 28.The Court also noted that Khan was not in possession of drugs while the other two had “small quantities” […]
