Kerala : Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms

A ‘Yellow alert’, predicting isolated heavy rainfall, was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts for the day. After a brief lull, heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, lashed several parts of Kerala on Thursday as the weathermen issued an Orange Alert for eight districts of the state indicating very heavy showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest update, put the districts- Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur- on Orange alert. 42 dead due to rains, landslides in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India]: Forty-two people have died due to rains and landslides between October 12 and 20, while six people are missing, said Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday.The Chief Minister also said that as many as 304 relief centres have been opened in the state. BSF Recovers Arms & Drugs

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India] : Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint search operation with the team of Punjab Police on Tuesday recovered a bag containing arms and drugs from the Khemkaran area in Ferozepur district of Punjab.As per a press release issued by BSF on Wednesday, 22 pistols including five pistols made in Pakistan and China, 44 Pistol Magazines, 100 Rds ammunition, 934 grams of heroin, 72 grams of opium were recovered from the bag. “It appears that few pistols are locally manufactured in Pakistan. However, apart from the above markings, no marking/details of the manufacturing Company were found engraved on the pistols,” read the release.A case has been registered against the unknown person under NDPS Act, Arms Act and Foreigners Act and recovered items were handed over to Punjab Police, Amritsar.More details are awaited.

Uttrakhand :1,300 people rescued

A total of 17 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are conducting rescue and relief operations amid heavy rains in Uttarakhand, said NDRF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohsen Shahedi on Wednesday. New Delhi [India] : Shahed informed that as many as 1,300 people had been evacuated and taken to safe places acorss the state, while 46 people have lost their lives. “A total of 17 teams of NDRF are carrying out rescue and relief operations in Uttarakhand, which includes teams from Delhi, Dehradun, two teams from Uttar Pradesh and six teams which were already deployed in the state as a part of pre-Monsoon deployment. 1,300 people have been evacuated and carried to safer places,” said Shahedi . Uttarakhand : Aid of Rs 4 lakhs for kins of deceased
