New Delhi [India]: To enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities, Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the production linked incentive (PLI) schemes for the auto, auto-component, and drone industries.Briefing media about the Cabinet decision, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said the PLI scheme has a budgetary provision of Rs 26,058 crores – Rs 25,938 crores for the auto sector and Rs 120 crores for the drone industry. “Automobile industry contributes to 35 per cent of the manufacturing GDP of the country. It is a leading sector in generating employment. If we speak of the global automotive trade, then we need to increase India’s participation,” said Thakur.Thakur said the PLI scheme has been brought keeping in mind the “needs of the present as well as the future, and for local markets too, so that we strengthen our industry.”

India will become hub for automobile manufacturing in next 5 years, says Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi [India]: Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday expressed hope that India will become a hub for automobile manufacturing in the next five years.“Almost all reputed automobile brands are present in India. As we are working on technologies involving ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied natural gas (LNG), electric and green hydrogen, I believe that India will become a hub for automobile manufacturing in next five years,” said the minister. New Delhi: Tesla founder Elon Musk said on Saturday that his company wants to launch cars in India, however, the country’s import duties on electric vehicles (EVs) are “highest in the world by far”. Tata Motors and Tata Power on Friday announced the inauguration of India’s largest Solar Carport in Pune, that is estimated to reduce 7,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. Two-wheeler manufacturer Royal Enfield on Wednesday voluntarily recalled 2,36,966 motorcycles of the ‘Classic, Bullet and ‘Meteor’ models due to a defect is in the ignition coil. According to the company, the defect in the ignition coil can cause misfiring, reduced vehicle performance and in rare cases, an electric short circuit. “The defect was discovered during routine internal testing and the issue has been clearly identified and isolated to specific batches of material sourced from our external supplier between December 2020 and April 2021,” the company said in a statement. “While the issue is rare and does not impact all motorcycles manufactured during the above mentioned period, in keeping with safety regulations and as a precautionary measure, Royal Enfield has decided to undertake a proactive, company-initiated recall of select motorcycles models produced in the above mentioned time period. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Monday said it will temporarily suspend operations at its Chennai plant for five days starting Tuesday in view of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions imposed by the Tamil Nadu government. Honda to stop producing cars in India for 12 days amid Covid scare

Honda Cars India on Thursday said it is advancing maintenance shutdown at its Rajasthan-based manufacturing plant by around ten days in the wake of second wave of COVID. The Japanese automaker, which sells models like Amaze and City, has decided to shut production at its Tapukara-based facility for 12 days starting from May 7 in order to curtail spread of coronavirus infections. “In view of the current severe situation from the second wave of COVID-19, the company has informed its associates and suppliers that the company is making calendar adjustments along with its maintenance block closure at its manufacturing plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan,” a Honda Cars India spokesperson told PTI. ‘Auto companies to be fined up to Rs 1 crore if…’

Automobile majors will have to shell out up to Rs 1 crore as penalty in case of mandatory recall orders by the government for defects in manufacturing from April 1, 2021, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said on Wednesday. The ministry has issued rules for mandatory recall of defective vehicles by manufacturers. “It is notified that, where minimum number of complaints for particular category of vehicle against total sales of model is received on vehicle recall portal, mandatory recall is initiated,” the Ministry said. The notification mentions fines ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore on the basis of number of vehicles and types of vehicles. The rules for testing of vehicles and mandatory recall under the Central Motor Vehicles Act provides for penalty in case of manufacturers or importers fail to undertake voluntary recall.
