Bengaluru, Aug 28: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Saturday laid the foundation stone for setting up a one lakh litre capacity milk processing dairy and ultra heat treatment packing unit at Jangamankoppa village in Haveri assembly constituency.
The project will create jobs for unemployed youths from the district and provide better prices for the milk they produce, he said.
The project will give a boost to milk production in the district in coming years and costs about Rs 90 crore, Bommai said.
Daily milk production from the district is one lakh litres, Bommai said.
For now, Haveri district comes under the jurisdiction of Dharwad Milk Union and it has 22,000 milk producers in Haveri district. There are 45,000 milk producers registered under Dharwad Milk Union.

Bommai also recalled former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s role in starting the project in the district as promised by him to the people of the district
Apart from this, he laid foundation stone for the various development works of Haveri assembly constituency, amounting to Rs 127.63 crore.
