    New Delhi [India]: To enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities, Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the production linked incentive (PLI) schemes for the auto, auto-component, and drone industries.Briefing media about the Cabinet decision, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said the PLI scheme has a budgetary provision of Rs 26,058 crores – Rs 25,938 crores for the auto sector and Rs 120 crores for the drone industry. “Automobile industry contributes to 35 per cent of the manufacturing GDP of the country. It is a leading sector in generating employment. If we speak of the global automotive trade, then we need to increase India’s participation,” said Thakur.Thakur said the PLI scheme has been brought keeping in mind the “needs of the present as well as the future, and for local markets too, so that we strengthen our industry.”

  • India will become hub for automobile manufacturing in next 5 years, says Nitin Gadkari
    New Delhi [India]: Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday expressed hope that India will become a hub for automobile manufacturing in the next five years.“Almost all reputed automobile brands are present in India. As we are working on technologies involving ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied natural gas (LNG), electric and green hydrogen, I believe that India will become a hub for automobile manufacturing in next five years,” said the minister. Earlier, on August 13, the prime minister, while addressing the Investor Summit in Gujarat via video conference, said that “Be it ethanol, hydrogen fuel or electric mobility, with these priorities of the government, active participation of the industry is very important.”“In the midst of this change, it is equally important to protect our environment, our land, our resources and our raw material,” he said.

    New Delhi: Tesla founder Elon Musk said on Saturday that his company wants to launch cars in India, however, the country’s import duties on electric vehicles (EVs) are “highest in the world by far”. Replying to a Twitter user who requested Musk to launch Tesla cars in India, he said in a tweet, “We want to do [launch EVs in India] so, but import duties are the highest in the world by far of any large country!  Moreover, clean energy vehicles are treated the same as diesel or petrol, which does not seem entirely consistent with the climate goals of India.” The Tesla CEO expressed hope that there will be at least a temporary tariff relief for electric vehicles. “But we are hopeful that there will be at least a temporary tariff relief for electric vehicles. That would be much appreciated,” he further tweeted. When asked by another Twitter user whether Tesla will locally assemble vehicles in India, Musk said: “If Tesla is able to succeed with imported vehicles, then a factory in India is quite likely.” Tesla announced its entry in India earlier this year in January. New Delhi:  Maruti Suzuki lining up the country’s largest single-location automobile investment as it plans to pump in up to Rs 18,000 crore for a new factory premises in Haryana, which may have a peak annual capacity of 10 lakh units, Maruti Suzuki chairman R C Bhargava told TOI. The greenfield location — which may be spread over 700-1,000 acres — would come as a replacement to its old (and first) factory located in Gurugram, but the company is wary of the state’s new policy that has mandated 75% job reservation for the locals in business and factory establishments. “We have a plan to invest Rs 17,000-18,000 crore. The total capacity that we are planning is between 7.5 lakh and 10 lakh cars per annum. Some Tesla shareholders alleged that the SolarCity deal was aimed at bailing out the company, where Musk had an investment. The Tesla shareholders claimed in the lawsuit that the money invested in SolarCity must be paid back. Tesla shareholders accused Elon Musk of dominating the EV maker’s board with deal discussions. They alleged that Musk influenced Tesla’s board to buy SolarCity despite it being a weak deal for the company. This lawsuit kicked off a two-week trial in Wilmington, Delaware.
