Centre to review Rs 8 lakh criteria for EWS category for NEET

New Delhi [India] : The Centre on Thursday told the Supreme Court that it has taken a considered decision to revisit the limit of rupees eight lakh annual income fixed for determining the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category for reservation in NEET admissions for Post-Graduate medical courses. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and Vikram Nath was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that a committee will be constituted to determine the criteria for EWS and it would take four weeks. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 10,949 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 98.33 per cent which is the highest since March 2020 and total recoveries data reached to 3,39,57,698. The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have declined to 1,11,481  (lowest in 537 days), the ministry data showed today.  More than 118.44 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive. Belgrade [Serbia] : An explosion at a factory for the production of missiles used to combat hail clouds near Belgrade, according to unconfirmed information, injured 15 people, two were killed, the Vecernje Novosti newspaper reported.A strong explosion occurred at about 14:00 (13:00 GMT) in the Buban Potok area. Malaysia reports 4,885 new COVID-19 infections, 63 more deaths

Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia] : Malaysia reported another 4,885 new COVID-19 infections, as of midnight Monday, bringing the national total to 2,591,486, according to the health ministry.Some 18 of the new cases are imported, with 4,867 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed. Another 63 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 30,063.About 5,628 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 2,493,437.There are some 67,986 active cases, 549 are being held in intensive care units and 274 of them are in need of assisted breathing.The country administered a total of 109,016 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday alone, and some 78.7 per cent of the population have received at least one dose and 76.6 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Agartala (Tripura) [India] : A suspicious bag was found at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) airport in Agartala, airport authorities said on Monday.A bomb squad and airport security were rushed to the spot to look for possible explosives. “A suspicious bag has been found in Agartala Airport at around 9:45 am. Someone has left the bag on the site which led to suspicion that it could contain explosives. New Delhi [India] : The Delhi High Court and the seven district courts completely resume the physical hearings on Monday.However, the Court has permitted the hybrid or video conferencing hearing to those where a request to such effect is made by any of the parties or their counsel. New Delhi [India] : Indian Air Force ace pilot Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman will be awarded the Vir Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind in an investiture ceremony on Monday.Varthaman was recently promoted to the rank of Group Captain.
